picking up in reno NV.on monday, going to wiliston ND. no route looks good, hoping sombody has run it.
cant seem to get away from the dakotas
can i go threw yellowstone park?
do they allow trucks????????????????
just checked the atlas, all routes are restricted to trucks in Yellowstone except U.S.191. You could take 20 to 287 to 191 up into Montana. I've never been in the area so I don't know the roads but I bet it's beautiful country-take some pictures.
I took a load of piling to Williston last year but I came from the east. Lots of sunflowers in North Dakota there,eh?

I do not know, but I would think that if you own it and are using it for personal use and not for hire there shouldn't be any hassle. But i've thought wrong before.
I'd give Paul Van Scott a call,he's a smart fellow and probably knows the rules better than I do.

WOULD THIS BE ORCHARD PARK NEW YORK, IF SO YOUR KINDA IN MY BACK YARD
GG2
yes it would. Delivered to Boston Valley Terra Cotta,Orchard Park,New York. We go there pretty regularly, but this was the first time i'd been there since last winter when 219 was snow covered all the way. This time I was soaked with sweat by the time I got my tarps folded.

Went all the way to Orchard Park, and all I saw was this Autocar
But coming home today we saw this fine looking Peterbilt on rt. 24 between Concord and Rustburg. Took this out the back window of the pickup.
And I tried to get a picture of a nice looking single axle Mack dump in Rainelle,W.V. but it didn't come out too good-good reflection of my orange vest though.

finally!

Yeah, that detour to Shreveport was a bit of a long one but the cajun deep fried crawfish was worth it!! Got my happy ass to Raleigh and have made four of the five days through class. Gonna test out tomorrow about 11:00 and get on the road towards Appomatox to do some sight seeing before headed home.
Rob
I'll be home tomorrow. Made a trouble-free
( trouble-free except for the main fuel line from the tank that goes into the filter rubbed against something and fuel was leaking all over West Virginia.Had to wait in Keyser, West Virginia from about 3 o:clock Sunday until Truck Enterprises opened at 8am Monday morning.Sitting in a big gravel pull-off across the street from them...no AC,no shade,no nuthin'. Got so hot around 5 o:clock I cranked it up and ran the AC for about 10 minutes and could look out the passenger window and see diesel fuel running across the ground-on a gravel lot! So I cut it off and sweated some more...but otherwise trouble-free )
trip to Warren,Ohio and back to Lynchburg, then made a trip to Orchard Park,N.Y. and loaded lumber in Lackawanna coming to Staunton,Va. Unloaded there this morning and picked up a load at Riverville going to Beloit,Wisconsin to deliver Monday.

My brother used to fill plastic bottles with water and freeze them. When he was in the field on a tractor all day he'd have cold water as they melted. A 2 liter bottle or 2 will last a long time...just a thought. (Paul Van Scott)

I'm sorry-I just don't like him or trust his motives. For me it started with his refusal,or inability,to bring forth the documents proving his birth Country to be America, which is Constitutionally required to run for President. He's spent millions of dollars to bury his past records regarding how he could go to College in the USA on an Indonesian scholarship and be an American-born citizen. His own wife has said publicly that he's not an American citizen (Actually she said he's a proud citizen of Indonesia,I believe.)He signed off on the Health Care Bill,(admittedly, there's some good things in it,but the bad outweighs the good a hundredfold),and he ran the National Debt up more in less than a year in office than the past 10 Presidents put together. His Stimulus Packages, which he said would get out economy back on track and ultimately help the people get back to work, have failed to improve the economy or reduce the unemployment problem. Then, there's the Bank Bailouts, which gave banks that played fast-n-loose with peoples' lives,MORE money to keep doing the same stupid tricks AND pay the worst offenders among them huge bonuses. There's plenty more but I want to be fair about this. He has nice teeth and a great speaking voice-he should be on radio!
Sorry if this seems harsh-guess I'm just venting from the home BS that's been going on here. I'll be okay tomorrow--but the USA won't,until Obama,Reid and Pelosi are completely out of Politics.

Tom, I hope your standing at an exit on I-40 with a big sign pointing the direction for Rob to continue to proceed in. And be there with some fuel for he has a tendency to.....well you know what i'm thinking don't you?
mike
yes I do. He probably called triple A for directions because he apparently made it to Raleigh. He didn't take the truck route though,74 to Cinncinati,275 to the AA,64 to Charleston,77 to Mount Airy,52 to Winston-Salem,and 40 to Raleigh. He was in Shreveport last time I heard from him.

Show and tell for the day-
I was looking around in the tool box for something yesterday and saw these old tools that I haven't used for years. The point setting tool and brake spoon were mine from when I worked at a garage from '74 to '77. The others were given to me by my grandfather when he retired from Newman Tire Co. in Farmville,Va.
Might be kind of rare. Those are real Channellock pliers, the smallest i've ever seen. The odd looking box end wrench was to hold the end of a shock absorber while you tighten it. The round thing i'm holding is to install points-it has a spring loaded screw holder on one end and a magnet on the other end. The curved wrench is just old, made in New York City.

Hi all;
Well,I went out and got pics of the new truck and wrote down ID numbers off the truck and Brown Lipe transmission,so I'll be trying to figure out what's what on it.
The Brownie appears to be a 3 speed, model 5531,serial number 51501,just in case there's anybody with a book on these things. I'm waffling on whether to pull the running gear to put in my '57 GMC dump truck or leave it as is and do the little work it'll take to make it a driver and just drive it. Or maybe put the 5 speed and 302 in the dump truck and build a running 270/4 speed set up (The current running gear in the dump truck) to run in this truck. I discovered the old truck has relatively little rust, and is just in such good shape (And it's a '54,my year of birth)I just can't make myself consider getting rid of it.
As soon as my trailer's done I'll probably go get the Ford truck I traded for it and deliver that, then go back and bring the GMC home to work on,see if it'll run and drive.
Hope I can figure the picture thing out.

Looks really good! Anything that old that's been sitting that long around here would be a big pile of rust. Starter in the floor-haven't seen that for years of course, my Daddy had a pickup about that age when I was a wee little feller with the starter in the floorboard.

I'm not real good on the posting video etc. but I'll get 'er figured out somehow.
I just acquired another truck (Like I need another truck!!);I traded an old '73 Ford pick up for a 1954 (My birth year) GMC 350 (2 Ton)Conventional cab flatbed. No title (I can get one for $240.00),sheet metal and glass is good, seat is good, tires are not,but they all hold air,it's complete, was driven to where it is now,and I'm into it exactly NOTHING! Best of all,it has a 302 six,BIG 5 speed (possible a 5th over??),2 speed axle and a Brownie. Don't know a lot about it yet,but plan to go pull all the ID numbers off it and see what I have in the next couple of days. When the owner said he was selling it for scrap at $50.00/ton,I knew I had to save it.
I need to get another camera, but will get pics as soon as possible.
Even though this isn't a
,we ALL like old trucks, don't we?
Speed
We do indeed!

Glad I apoligized to Rob for nothing before, so now i'm covered. I thought he left last night and was hammer down to Raleigh now...so I decided to give him a call at 3:35 am- 2:35am in central Illinois, thinking he was probably in Ohio or Kentucky by now. He was not.

I'm so sorry-i'm deleting it anyway.
...gittin' there!
-
Found it-no mention of the bumper though. Has a 400 Cummins and 13 spd, along with Freightliner and Peterbilt parts. Not that there's anything wrong with that,it's still a great looking truck.
It's also seen near the beginning of this youtube video-
-
I'd like to know where and how much that bumper can be gotten for. I want that style for my B Model Mack. Some of the Emeryville Internationals have a bumper as such. That is probably the only aftermarket item i'd buy for it since I want to keep it as stock as possible.
mike
That looks like the one a man from up around Moundsville,West Virginia restored. If it is there was a story in either "Wheels of Time" or "Old Time Trucks" about it a while back. I'll see if I can locate it. Had all late model running gear in it though.

I went to Florida this week, but only went as far as Fernandina Beach. I was afraid to go any farther south-might've run across hatcity.
Took some 55' beams to the port. Hung this much off the front, so I only had this much off the rear.
Saw these Mack dumps for sale at Joker Joe's Truckstop.
Picked up some posts in Ehrhardt,S.C. to bring back to Troy,Va.
Unloaded lumber in Moneta Monday morning and took a picture of the A-40 Mack sitting in the field. I posted pictures of it here a while back, maybe a couple years ago. Now you can barely see it, but it's still there.
Unfortunately,I must have deleted all the original pictures I had of it.
-
I wonder how that handles with a high load on air ride.
The old Freightliner dump truck with air ride they have at work is pretty scary to drive loaded-feels like you're gonna tip over all the time!
This log truck was pulling a pup with about as many logs on it as was on the truck but I didn't get it in the picture.

Saw a remembrance for Fred Craig in "Old Time Trucks" so I googled him and found that he had indeed passed away, age 66. He owned Fred Craig Transfer and was "the man" at the Winchester Tri-State ATHS show.
After Old Bill posted the pictures that I took at Winchester on his website ( http://www.thedieselgypsy.com/Tom%20Blackwell-truck%20show.htm ) Fred Craig sent word that if I wanted to go and take pictures for them the following year, he would pay for mine and Bill's food and lodging.
Never heard any more from him.
Here's some of his trucks-he loved them old GMCs.

looks like something I would do.

Allways thought the cannonball sleeper was kind of a neat looking truck................Mark
I'd drive this.
-
saw this in Bedford Monday.

Hi Mike, your photo is of a "Cannonball. The "Crackerbox was a cabover truck.
Rob
These are "cannonballs", Jack Cole and McLean, with an H-model in the middle.
not to be nit-pickin or anything. I got a couple of DVD's of the old "Cannonball" TV show.
