IIRC, the older Maxidynes didn't seem to want to hold a steady speed around 1000 RPM at part throttle.
the throttle response on them is very sensitive too, at least on the 237s and 300 I drove.

Joe,
Just relax. The DOT examiner is just doing his job.
And - don't do too much downshifting. You shouldn't
be going that fast anyway on the test.
If you make a mistake, and you know it, admit it.
He'll probably let you do that part of the test over,
if it's necessary.
I think if you don't admit the error, they wonder if you know
that you did it. And I think that's worse.
Everybody's nervous on a test like that. Believe me,
you aren't the first guy the examiner has seen who
might be a little tense.
You'll do fine.
Just think over and over - "if Other Dog can do this,
I should be able to do it also"
Good Luck!

Driving on ice while loaded with a large vehicle is "hairy" any way it is looked at. I can side with you on the nerves bit after an experience like that. I've never smoked, drank, or used illicit drugs to calm them, just performed more work to accomplish more.
Glad you got through it.
Don't know what I'd do without you to harrass.
Rob
it's good for you,relieves stress!
-
And there's your problem right there. The induced stress of driving a Pete relinquishes human "will power" and causes unsuspecting operators to ingest tar, nicotine, and by-products of combustion into the body.
This is commonly referred to as "smoking".
Rob
I'm a weak person
I forgot to tell the story in my blog about how I almost had "the big one". The right lane on I-25 in Wyoming was solid ice where the snow had been packed. The left lane offered a little more traction on the snow, and I was in the left lane just motoring along when I saw a bull rack coming up behind me. I got in the right lane to let him pass and saw a little blue car ahead of me. Didn't take long to figure out the car was barely moving. I'd look in the mirror, look at the car-look in the mirror, look at the car. It was obvious the truck wouldn't get by in time for me to fall in behind him, and I knew if I touched the brakes there was going to be a helluva crash, involving at least myself, so I hit the shoulder and passed the car on the right, by the guardrail. Shortly afterwards I got the 2 packs of Marlboros.

Quitting the smoking is the hardest thing I ever did
in my life!
And today they still smell good - even almost twenty years
later.
The only way that I could quit was to just stop - period.
I smoked a pack a day, every day for twenty years,
regardless of activity, unless I was in a bar or at a party,
when I would smoke more.
I would start again today, if I didn't think about it.
And, yes, you will probably gain some weight.
You can lose the weight anytime you want to.
But, you will feel so much better, smell better and,
maybe even look better when smoking is behind you.
And - we, as tax paying citizens, won't have to be paying to keep
you alive with lung disease while you slowly choke to death.
Another little incentive - at least in New York state - cigarettes are
now up around $7.00 a pack, with the latest State Tax.
I agree, it is hard-very hard. I quit once for 10 years and started back, like a dumb ass. I quit last year for 2 months and started back-like a dumb ass! Next time they have one of those quit-smoking hypnotist deals around I might give that a try, I know that's worked for some people.
Last week when I was driving in the snow and ice in Wyoming I stopped in Buffalo,Wy. and bought 2 packs of Marlboros, chewed up and swallowed one pack, and smoked the other before I got to Billings,Mt.
(job related stress!)

This is me in my Petercar. 5x3. My main is near my leg and the brownie is near the passenger seat. I think your Macks are opposite. Same principle though.
to simplify everything, main in first, shift under, direct, and over in the aux ( that's low split, direct,hi split in the compound for a Mack triplex or quadruplx-same thing) . then 2nd,under,direct,over,3rd. under, direct,over,4th. under, direct, over, then to 5th. in the main with a quad,if your main is overdrive in 5th. If it's direct in 5th. shift the aux. or compound under, direct, over like the lower gears. You shift a quad. just like a triplex on the road, don't use lo-lo.

Thanks for the effort Tom, per the orig. post he was asking $3000 for it. That seems kinds high, dontcha think??? I'm going to call anyway and find out. (Though I'd much rather have the red one in your pics!!!)
Thanks!
yeah, but-no one replied, he might take way less now if you give him a call, times are tight.

Hi Tom. I had never looked at this Hanks site before.......now I've got a question.......saw 2 C model Macks on there, a C607 & C609. I don't seem to find anyone on the BMT site that has one. Can you help?? I think I'll never be happy until I find myself one of these!!!
thanks, Rusty
Hi Rustydog, as a matter of fact I know where one is for sale a mile from where I work. I put it in the ''trucks for sale'' for the owner a while back, if you scroll down far enough you'll see ''C-model''.And there's a picture of it in my gallery on page 2 of misc. photos, with snow on it. Truck Body Corporation in Lynchburg used this truck for a yard truck for years, and the present owner bought it to restore himself, but I think he ran into some health issues and decided to sell it.
I don't have another picture of it on my PC, I thought I did, but here's A C-model I took at a truck show in N.C.
That C model for sale is on page 3 in the for sale column. I posted it last August, and no one has replied yet. I'm gonna try to move a picture here...

That sounds pretty right mate. Yep Maxidynes (237, 285, 325 and E9400 out here in Aus) were the lower horsepower-higher torque models to their sister engines. 237-250C, 285-320/350, 325-375V8 and 400-440V8. Maxidynes were the only engine fitted with 5 and 6 spd boxes. All tthe Thermodynes used 10s and 12s after the quad. Econodynes were the first engine with chassis mounted charge air cooling CMCAC. Econodynes were the first series to have 4 valves per cyl, with the E9. The 6cyl didnt appear out here with 4 valves until about 1985/6, with the 300 and 350.
but what's more popular in Australia, monkey grip or gorilla tape?
-
Barry,
I did not know you were selling these until today. But being a member of First Gear for several years now, they send me flyers all year. This gives you a first chance at their products. My packages are waiting for me at home to open today. So eat your hearts out guys. LOL
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hi Paul,
Could you take a photo of of an authenic interior and show us what one is to look like?
Many Thanks!
mike
I had a headliner with my truck and never bothered to put it in. I guess it's still at the body shop where I got the fenders painted. That's where I left it, I really ought to go get it.

I was just browsing around Hank's today and came across some really neat looking Macks, and a twin steer KW that looked pretty awesome...

Hi Tom,
Hope all is well with you. Last I remember you were not running as much. It will be ok. I'm glad I grew up with a dad that taught me to tighten my belt. I did not know how to take the comment earlier. But felt the need to only express myself as I only knew how. Not trying to slander anyone. I was agreeing that people will take advantage of ya. But you have to be ok with the results. Ya can't always win. I had a great boss once told me when I was going through a divorce that " Sometimes you have to lose to Win" I finally figured out what he was saying. But not at the time of all the turmoil.
Blessings
mike
yeah Mike, been kinda slow. I'm loaded now to deliver Monday-loaded yesterday, so I'm home today puttering around, and browsing Hank's truck pictures. That's always good entertainment for a while. I've only made one trip for 3 weeks in a row now.

I understand fully how you feel. I could give you a churchey answer but will let you fill in that blank. All mankind has been taken advantage of in some or many ways. Its how much of a heart you have that counts. I see it on this web-site all the time. If Barry and this administration had not cared about us and what he believed in, then we would not be enjoying this opportunity to learn and communicate with each other. Frankly I'm one of those people that needed a brother good or bad. My real brother was 6 years older and left home when I was 13. We had a terrible relationship, but I wish that I could let him borrow something from me again or allow him to see my old B61. He would go crazy over it. He was one of the best custom car, truck, Race Car, signs etc. etc. PAINTERS, with people like Charlie Daniels calling for my brother to paint his trucks and buses. Thats just one of the customers.

I agree Mike, I've met lots of good people on this site that I consider good friends even though I've never actually met them. Rarely do you here a discouraging word here, or people putting others or their trucks down. Sometimes you do, but for the most part lots of people just trying to help each other out. And of course after a while you know people well enough to know when they're joking and when they're not. I've heard there are some on here that are just full of b.s. but I have no idea who that might be. Probly' that nocluejoe...

see also http://www.truckpaper.com/ , they had quite a few, and http://oldmacks.com/trucks.htm , they always have B-models for sale.
And don't forget http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/trucks.htm
for pictures-there's thousands of truck pictures here.

first of all.....
yes i have the right to speak my mind (i live in a free country where we say how we feel)
we also believe in constructive critism in whatever form that may take.
the truck i drive is not owned by me....i mearly drive it and keep it presentable most of the time.
i have the responsibility of maintaining this vehicle's appearance as it is a company truck.
if someone doesn't like my comments then you don't hafta read them...it's your choice.
i have also started a new thread on this website open for any and all comments about these trucks irrespective of creed, colour or religion.
cheers

gee...
. all I said was ''gee'' when you were putting down someone else's equipment, don't usually see that on here.

My reply about the smell comes from 1st hand exp., 2 yrs ago i got 2 John Deere D,s a 37 and a 42, someone had took the rad. cap from 1, After a lot of tinkering i filled her full of water to try to get it running. After awhile it fired up and ran for about 10 minutes when the god awfullest smell started, The water wouldn,t run out of the drain plugs, Because at least a half a dozen rats had crawd down in the bottom of the rad, and died, What a mess i had to pull the head crap every where, everything was plugged full of remains
sounds nasty, rat stew!

Who would do that, and why would they......Just go buy a mack, lord knows you've got enough invested in this truck to go buy a decent truck. So Rob you buyin this one...lol
you could turn your Toyoter into one of these
Only reason I don't do the Ranger like it is it isn't paid for yet, otherwise...

are you saying it could have been caused by exceeding the maximum weight capacity?
