  1. I remember when UPS was still running some Diamond-T cabovers over the road. They used to always take the nameplates and any identifying brand insignias off their trucks for some reason, you could still look at it and knew what it was. I don't know if they still do that or not, haven't noticed lately.
  2. could be-I noticed that the Overnite trailers all had the name painted over.
  3. no telling! looked like some of those old trailers would be worth more for storage trailers or something instead of just scrapping them, but I guess not.
  4. Saw some interesting items at the ol' steel mill yesterday waiting to be shredded-some Overnite,Swift, and M.S.Carriers trailers, and even a couple of Greyhound busses. People used to use old vans for chip trailers, but they're too big now. Now you have to get a "real" chip trailer. Most of the old chip trailers H.H.Moore had had Roadway,Halls,Jones,or Overnite on them. All you had to do was cut some vent holes in them, and after the doors got torn off pulling off the dump, put a tailgate on it.They were 40' vans, most were 13' or 13-6 high, but a lot were 12-6.That's the ones I looked for when they all paid the same flat rate, when we started getting paid on percentage i'd look for the biggest ones. You could still be over gross with a load of chips on a 40' 12-6 high van. A 53 footer would collapse like a...like a...like a 53' van with a load of chips,I guess. I remember the time someone made a chip trailer out out of a 48/102 trailer and the dump at Covington wouldn't even lift it.He came in grossing over 100,000 lbs, don't remember exactly how much. They finally got it dumped on the one dump they had at the time that dumped the whole truck, without having to drop the trailer that is,but he had to drop it before that dump would lift it. Westvaco told him to never bring that trailer in there again.
  5. hmmmmmm...I just checked...over 5,500 members here. Just think what 5 or 10 bucks each could do to help...just a thought.(Paul Van Scott)
  6. Just got caught up on this post-Amen to what everyone has already said.I was in the same situation myself about 6 years ago,i'm praying for you also.
  7. Lots of transmission info on the different models and all the ratios here- http://www.oldmacksrus.com/trannys.htm
  8. Thank you, and same to you and yours, and everyone else too. I made a trip to Marietta, Ohio from Petersburg,Va,reloaded back to Petersburg where I delivered, then loaded in Petersburg for Tampa-and it doesn't deliver until Monday,so i'm off 'til Sunday.Unless I decide to leave Saturday...hope this turkey thaws in time to cook it-still hard as a rock.
  9. Wow!!! but then, it's probably a lot nicer than my cement mixer-i'll sell that for only $43,000. special deal for BMT members-a mere $33,000.
  10. I just saw a flyer for that sale today. Lot of good looking units they sold, especially those restored Whites. I'd copy and post the pictures, but I left it in the truck.
  11. So, what have you been doing besides goofing off? I like that show, mainly 'cause it's so close to home, but still a good one. Weren't as many trucks as there was at last year's I don't think. I liked the Sightliner IH too,as i'd never seen one before except at Hank's truck pictures.
  12. sounds like a 6 speed to me,but i'm not too much up to snuff on the later model mack transmissions myself. As a matter of fact i'm not really up to snuff on anything. If it is a 6 speed, you just shift the one stick from low to hi with the main in first when you start off, then shift the other one on up to 5th.And from what I understand, you can also back up 40 mph...if you want to.
  13. This is not my doing,i've been hacked!
  14. He is proud of you. Here's a secret spy picture taken at the R-700 banquet.
  15. "a few"-that's the key phrse. They're knee deep around here, and still falling. I go from "cut the grass season" to "rake the leaves season" to "shovel the snow season". However,I did get Jo a gas powered leaf blower yesterday too, but I didn't even take it out of the box yet. Takes care of her Christmas present anyway.
  16. This is the extreme winter front, for the most severe conditions you'll likely encounter this winter.
  17. Think i'm borderline freak...hard to tell.
  18. I raked a few leaves to test my new rake- worked good.
  19. Good job,Spot! But as big as she was you prolly didn't need to chew her feets off,Randy could have caught her by himself.By the way, wonder if he plans to mount her?
  20. that is funny. they should have signs like this posted-
  21. naw, that's for riding that new 4-wheeler through the brush,so limbs and briars don't smack him in the face. He did say he saw a double bagger down at the Quik-Stop when he was on a beer run though-he even sent a picture.
  22. Looks like Randy had pretty good luck at the hunting camp. Even decided to have this one mounted, instead of eating it like he did all the rest of the game he bagged.
  23. yes,it was turned off-I was saving fuel oil. I pulled out of the building to tarp after I got loaded and climbed up a bank to take this picture.Came out great,eh? Looks almost like a model. Load was going to Walker muffler in Harrisonburg,Va. I must say, ever since it came from Cat the last time it's never ran or pulled better. Pulls almost like a 550's sposed to now. ...might be fixin' to come undone!
  24. oh...disregard my answer.
