Speaking of work,i'm still hard at it. I've been to Zelienople,Pa. and back twice this week. Sounds easy enough, but there ain't no easy runs. It's a titanic struggle to get 46,000 lbs. up the road several times a week. Got to Roanoke with 48,000 lbs,3 Metalsa coils, around 6:30 or 7 o'clock Thursday night and figured on getting unloaded and being home early, but sometimes it doesn't pay to figure on anything. I got unloaded about 3:30 am Friday, got to the shop at 5 am and slept until 8,then went to Dillwyn and loaded kyanite for Fremont,Oh. to leave Sunday with. Then I drove the mixer over to Stonewall and parked it. The annual Stonewall Antique Power show is this weekend, and it almost snuck up on me. Came home, after the usual grocery store stop, and cut the grass and replanted some corn and beans that didn't come up.
Went over to Wal-Mart in Altavista and dropped a roll of film off too,so I should have pictures to post this afternoon. Took some of a Mack fire truck that's for sale near Sharon or Wheatland,Pa. and we're gonna ride over to the tractor show for a little while and look around so I might take a picture or two there. Hard to say what might be there,or what kind of turnout they'll have this year because gas is so expensive. When I left there yesterday the only antique vehicles there was a 1965 b-53 Mack concrete mixer and a Ford pickup, but lots of tractors were coming in. It's good to have a distraction from just hearing of gloom and doom all the time,so in honor of no clue joe-I must be off...film at eleven.

I know everybody gits tired of seeing pictures of these delicious and tender slow cooked ribs, but here's todays menu. Had just put them on the grill here...chunks of hickory wood on the charcoal. I actually smoke it over indirect heat for several hours, then smother it in BBQ sauce and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil to finish it. And I saw several of these creatures while I was cooking the ribs, they're sauteeing in the smaller pan, with garlic and butter.
    The end result...
...and how about that cabbage? it's really grown since yesterday!

well,sorta-kinda strange,as it was a bit out of the ordinary. Get used to doing pretty much the same thing all the time, and going to the same places all the time,so whenever you do something different it seems strange. The week started out as usual, unloaded in LaCrosse Monday, then went to Petersburg and loaded beams going to Ambridge,Pa.Unloaded there Tuesday morning, and went to Hubbard,Oh. and loaded for Alpharetta,Ga (near Atlanta). We almost always load coils going to Lynchburg or Roanoke,so that was the unusual part. Figured the best way to get to Atlanta was to run 71 down to Cincinnati, then run 75 to Cartersville,Ga. then Ga. 20 to 371 to 9. So I did. Made it all the way to Crazy Ed's Truckstop in Niota,Tn. before I stopped Tuesday night. I didn't get unloaded at Mac Steel (formerly Edgcomb Metals) until after lunch...well after lunch - if AK Steel is the absolute worst place to go if you're a steel hauler,Mac Steel runs a close second...and why do they have to be so hateful about it ? It was 677 miles there from Hubbard, and by the time I got unloaded I couldn't get to Rome,Ga. to load by 4:00 pm,so I loaded there at Temple-Inland yesterday morning.Huge place, there were pulp wood trucks, log trucks, chip trucks, and flatbeds going to load lumber all going there,so I guess it's a paper mill and lumber yard all rolled into one. It was a good place to load, and everybody there was nice, which I like . Very much unlike the pot-bellied b@$^@&! in the red t-shirt at Mac Steel.
Couldn't get to Moneta in time to unload yesterday either,so I came home and unloaded in Moneta this morning, then went to the shop and while they were servicing my truck,I got to drive one of the Columbia's to Dillwyn to load.I was gonna drive the T-800 daycab, but there was no fuel in it,and i'm way too lazy to put fuel in it,so I just drove a spare Freightliner there's no driver on now...I complain about the Peterbilt enough, but that Freightliner really made me appreciate a Peterbilt! Van load too, also out of the ordinary! Got a van load in Follansbee to pick up Monday going to Richmond,so I loaded Kyanite going to Conneaut,Oh. in a van today.
Might have some pictures tomorrow, finished a roll today after I wasted about 6 pictures at the truckstop just to finish the roll...don't remember what's on it,except the stunning black Honda I saw in Georgia-that's why I finished the roll!

Went to the dentist today and Mary the tooth babe said everything was looking good. She sure was...oh,my train of thought derailed for a moment there...uh...oh,got the parts for the tiller and got it going. Planted 8 cabbage plants and a row of onions.None of it's ready to pick yet. That's probably all i'll plant for a while-saw people buying tomato plants today, but they'll probably have to cover them a few nights yet.I'll just wait a while for the tomatoes and squash, let the ground warm up some.
Had a load of pipe at the shop going to Waddy,Ky. that Jeffrey was going to put on my trailer to deliver Monday...back to the old grind.

Done smoked that turkey-kind of blackened, but delicious. Hated to break in a new oven on the Thanksgiving turkey, but I didn't have much choice. This gas oven has a single bottom, where my old electric unit had two bottom panels, with an empty space in between. These pictures show the finished product, plus some extra drum sticks, the fire box, oven smoking, and plattered turkey. The sweet potater pies were delicious too, some of the best i've ever tasted-wait,is this the food forum,or trucks ? Oh...never mind. guess I should've resized my pictures too.

Since I had pictures of the whole turkey smoking process,I might as well show how it ended-with all the meat that was left pulled from it,placed in a pot with potatoes, onions, celery seed, and some thickening (flour and water),little salt and pepper...it's what Mama used to call turkey hash, and it's better than the turkey was! There's one of them sweet potato pies there too.

OK, maybe it doesn't take a lot to excite me anymore. I got soaked in Fremont while untarping a while back, then soaked again in Erie Monday rolling my straps up. Already had a cold, and was wishing I had something to keep my head warm. The old baseball cap just wasn't doing it for me. Found just the thing at the local Wal-Mart store today. Covers my ears and if I have trouble hearing I can open the fold-out ears to hear a pin drop miles away (see second photo). It's camouflage colored except for the fur part, but you can't see it because it's camouflaged. And no,I won't be afraid to wear it-I wore it around in Wal-Mart until Jo insisted I take it off. I'll take comfort over style, especially when it's freezing in Ohio. And I picked up some new gloves too-the ''dollar a pair'' cardboard ones I usually get at truckstops only last a day or so before they're worn out. So i'm happy as a dog with two-well,you get the idea.
I went to Duluth,Ga. when I got back from Erie and picked up this load of racks ( the orange things on the trailer, not the things you rate online-uh...never mind that) and brought them back to King William,Va. I'm backed inside the warehouse at Nestle-Purina on Tidy Cat rd.(yeah,really-but everybody's gotta be somewhere) getting unloaded. I also took a picture of Jeff's new truck that I passed on.. It was at the shop when I got back Friday, but it was dark by then as I had to go to Petersburg and load for Montgomery, Alabama for Monday. Might be good to be headed south again because they said it's supposed to be very cold in Ohio tomorrow...very,very cold. Coulda' tried out my new hat though.

We were talking about rt.250 a while back, the section between Fairmont and Moundsville,WV in particular,so Big Jim gave it a try and survived with no problems. He researched the trip well in advance too. I had told him about my trip across there in '80,and that I said at the time I wouldn't go back across it bob-tailing.And I told him what Bollweevil said, and what the man at Triadelphia had said. None of that scared Big Jim. He called the police departments in Littleton and Cameron, and they said the tight turns that used to be there had been done away with. Good thing-I just don't think you could make those turns as long as we are today. He was driving a Freightliner Columbia long wheelbase tractor with a 53' spread axle flatbed loaded with 47,000 lbs-overall length 77 1/2 feet. According to the Va. DOT I'm 70' overall with the Peterbilt and a 48' trailer. He said the worst part was the curve coming up out of Moundsville, and there was a hard turn onto a bridge somewhere farther down the line that took the whole road to make. Well, almost the whole road-he got over to the left as far as he could and he said he had about 2 feet to spare when he got onto the bridge.
Actually we were both thinking about going that way to Triadelphia Tuesday.I was several hours ahead of him,and when I went through Moorefield,WV Tuesday night-actually Wednesday morning it was about 10 degrees and clear. I was climbing the big mountain on rt.42 before you get to Mt. Storm when a pickup came up behind me and I could see snow blowing in the road in his headlights. It was so fine I hadn't even noticed it before, but as I neared the top it was no problem to see it.It was coming down hard and the wind was blowing it across in front of me,covering the road in places. Rt. 50 was pretty much covered,as was rt.560 up to Oakland,Md. Rt. 219 north was well salted so instead of taking 42 on to Friendsville I stayed on 219 up to Keysers Ridge and went to bed. No way I was going to try 250 in those conditions,so I went on across 68 to 79 north to 70 west to Triadelphia. Then I went on up 250 in Ohio to I-77 to pick up a load of brick in Sugarcreek going to Norfolk,Va. Still snowing all the way,but I had no problems until I got back to the usual trouble spot, which is I-64 from Beckley to the Va. line. For the second time this winter the road was closed after I got across Sandstone mountain because of accidents,so I pulled off on the ramp at the Dawson exit and took a nap. That's me-when the going gets tough I go to bed. I got up and went on to Norfolk and unloaded Thursday just after noon, then back to Petersburg and loaded another load of piling for Triadelphia to unload Monday.
Back to Big Jim- I called him and told him i'd run into a lot of snow, and when he got to the mountain before Mt. Storm-I don't know the name of it,it might be Mt.Storm mountain. It's a big one,4 miles with a 10 percent grade, has a bunch of those huge wind turbines on top- he couldn't even get up the mountain. He met 2 salt trucks at the bottom and they told him to wait until they came back then follow them up. He did,but in the meantime another truck came off of rt.93 and turned and started up the mountain, not knowing about the salt trucks. So when they came back,Jim fell in behind them and they started up and they soon caught the other truck, struggling to make it up. By the time he finally got up the mountain and got to Triadelphia it was too late to get unloaded. He unloaded the next morning and reloaded steel for Roanoke. He had an appointment time to unload at 12:30 the next day,so since he had plenty of time he came back down 250,thus proving that it can be done. Why anyone would want to though is a different story. But I can't say I won't do it again-Big Jim did. Besides,if it gets too tough I can probably find a wide spot somewhere to take a nap.

I found out quitting smoking is ridiculously easy-all you gotta do is not do it anymore! Now that I know that,i'm gonna run over to 699 Market and get me a pack...no,can't do it. I know from past experience, having quit several times before. And I don't mean quitting for 39 minutes,I mean quitting for years-then starting back. Once I was over at the hunting cabin, hadn't smoked for years,quit- A man named Dennis got the last cigarette out of the pack, crumpled it up,dropped it on the coffee table and said " see y'all tomorrow,i'm going home" and left. I picked up the pack to throw it away, and said "this pack ain't empty, there's still one in there-i'll just smoke it". So I did...next thing ya know i'm en route to the store to get me a pack. Then Henry was over at the house one time, and said " here, have a Newpote". I said " thanks, but I don't smoke,I quit". He said "quit?! awh, come on man, smoke a Newpote with me-besides,one ain't gonna hurt 'ya!". So I did,and it wasn't long before I said "hey man-can I get another one of them Newpotes?". When somebody said ''We're going to the store-anybody need anything?",I said "yeah-pack of Newpotes!". I know you're wondering-yes,alcohol was involved. Then there was the time-well,never mind, you see what i'm saying-I've done that time after time. Must be like a recovering alcoholic I guess, when they say they're one drink away from being back-I understand what they mean. You can't smoke just one, can't take one drink,or you have to start to quit all over again. I can kind of take it or leave it when it comes to drinking, but I like a beer as much as the next guy.In fact,i'm having one now...and it would be so good with a cigarette...but ...it's been 4 days-I can't promise I won't buy a pack tomorrow, but i'm not going to tonight.
And I went to Fremont,Oh. Wednesday...cold as a-and snowing across W.V... Turnpike was clear though.Just getting to the Turnpike, and after you get off it, can be a problem though. Loaded at Macedonia and unloaded in Roanoke Friday morning, now loaded for Zelienople,Pa. for Monday. Might even see Big Jim,he's going to Zelienople too. He's my best friend,we talk on the phone regularly, but seldom actually see each other in person. We're always on opposite ends it seems.

I'm home today so I could go to my brother's wedding. I'm still loaded for Roanoke, but I could have gotten somebody else to deliver the load tomorrow while I took a van load to Georgia tonight. And we had some really good paying loads of 55' piling going to Chicago, to deliver at 3:00 Monday evening. But I had to go to the wedding-Ma wanted me to take pictures. Only thing is, I found out when I talked to her last night that the wedding's not 'til NEXT weekend. D'oh!!!

Florida pictures-here's that palm tree I promised, and from snowy Ohio to all the green trees and grass in Florida, one week later. Oh,and one bikini...on a billboard.
And a new straw hat-bought it on e-bay. And A train loaded down with containers full of American products in the heartland of America, just south of Norwalk,Ohio-oh...China?..never mind then.
Sometimes I have a tendency to post the same picture more than once-I should either write them down as I go,or quit drinking.Guess i'll start writing them down.

I'm back. Left the day after Christmas and went to Orchard Park,N.Y. (Buffalo area) and then to Boardman,Oh. to pick up three magnets and dropped them at the shop this morning. They said Wednesday they had a load going to Boca Raton,Florida. Long ways, but Florida ain't bad this time of year. But-Neal called back about 2 minutes later and said the Orchard Park was there at the yard, loaded on a side kit trailer, and I could get it and go,so that's what I did. So much for Florida. That's OK,I'd just as soon go to Buffalo anyway.

Sat home again today.Called Jeff this morning and he told me to stay by the phone,he'd call me back as soon as he found out something about the truck. That was the last I heard from him. I called the shop about 4:00 and Neal said Jeff had already gone home. The truck IS supposed to be ready tomorrow though.
I even took Jo out to the Chinese buffet in Altavista because I was driving her crazy, and that's a short trip for her. The orange stuff on a stick was pretty good. Actually everything was good, even if I couldn't identify most of it.

So, where was I? Oh, last week I went to Petersburg to load a 60' load going to Masury,Oh, but just as I was pulling off the scales I got a call from headquarters telling me not to load it because they didn't want it in Masury until the end of the week. I ended up taking a load to Piedmont,S.C. instead, then loaded a load of 60' re-bar in Darlington for Fredericksburg,Va. Had a flat on the way back with that load, had to call road service to bring me a steer tire. Then I went to Petersburg and loaded a 60' load for Masury,Oh. All on my 48' trailer. I like my trailer. Not as good as the old Ravens I used to pull though- cain't beat a Ravens. Everybody hates going to Masury, because you have to tarp the steel beams that are stored outside, and everyone who works there is an a-hole, from the people in the office to the guys on the floor. Just hateful for no apparent reason.
But I survived and loaded at Brookfield for Roanoke. I unloaded there Monday and then went to Dillwyn and loaded for Fremont, Oh. Haven't been there for a long time, it's one of my favorite runs. Then I went back to Masury and loaded coils for Roanoke. Then to Petersburg and Wilmington,N.C. Then empty back to Lynchburg and picked up a Duluth,Ga. From there I went to Birmingham and picked up skidded coils ( good thing-I left my coil racks in the tool box on my trailer in Lynchburg) to unload in LaCrosse, Va. Monday. I ran over 3,000 miles from Monday 'til Friday.
Then I made some of the best chili ever today, even cooked some pasketti noodles and served it Cincinnati style-very delicious. And of course I took a roll of film to Wal-Mart, only to find they don't do 1 hour phtos any more! Had to go to CVS, but I got 'em.

I picked everything that was left in the garden yesterday, lots of peppers and a few green tomatoes. They said it might frost last night, and it's 30 degrees here this morning.
Old Bill, the Diesel Gypsy, sent me a picture of a jack-o-lantern, and Jobyna had to have one just like it.
I must be off to LaCrosse now.

Well,I was gonna try another video, but the PC is still defragmenting. I think something's wrong-it said it could take from a few minutes to a few hours, but it ran all yesterday afternoon and all night so it should be done by now! I might call old Bill back. I thought my Norton 360 did it automatically,it's set to,but Bill said Norton was nothing but trouble, and there are better free programs available when the Norton expires. It was preloaded on my computer when I bought it. My skype and eyeball chat were both working slow yesterday, with about a 20 second delay,so he called on the phone and helped me with this defragmenting process. Found out it was last done in September. I might just need to shut down and restart, but I don't want to undo anything i've already done,so i'd better ask somebody that knows what's going on.

Well,i'm at home again, until at least Monday-truck's been running hot lately, and i've had it at Carter Cat twice already to have it checked out,and there's nothing wrong with it. It runs at 200+ degrees all the time, bumps 220 on a hill...but there's nothing wrong with it,the fan, thermostats, water pump-working fine I kept telling Jeff it was running way too hot,and he sent me by Cat both times, and when they said there was nothing wrong when I left there Wednesday evening, after wasting a couple of hours,he told me to "put foot in 'er ass,it's on them now". So that's what I did - when it got up to 220 degrees going up the mountain on I-64 before you get into West Virginia,I never let off it-I kept saying something was wrong,it was running too hot,had been to Cat twice and they said ,in so many words,"no it ain't-our high-tech equipment says everything's fine, you're an idiot, now get the hell outa here!"
My theory was, it was the water pump-it's got 339,000 miles on it and never had a water pump put on it. I kind've figured it was just worn out from paddling all that water. I couldn't stand to keep driving the truck when I knew SOMETHING had to be wrong,so when I got in Friday morning Jeff told me to take it back to Cat,for the third time,he was gonna get a new water pump put on just for preventive maintenance( or maybe he was tired of hearing me whine about it!). So after I got unloaded in Roanoke I dropped it off at Cat again and went home. They said it would be ready Friday afternoon, and I was supposed to pick it up and get a load of pipes at the shop going to Monroeville,Pa. Before I got out of town good Jeff called me and said not to worry about picking the truck up-it had a blown head gasket. Didn't surprise me-I thought all along it had a blown head gasket At least I get to watch the new "Ice Road Truckers" Sunday night.
And speaking of hot-geez! Went outside to stake my tomatoes after my Mr. Stripey toppled over and broke and the heat was intense. It's 92 here now. I remember when I was a kid,out in a hay field picking up square bales out of the field ( round balers weren't invented then!) or working in tobacco on days like today-or hotter, for that matter- but I couldn't do it now

Since I was here last i've unloaded the lumber in Moneta, been to Petersburg and got a load of beams and delivered them in Garden City,Ga, and picked up another load of lumber in Estill,S.C. Got 8' 6x6s this time, but I didn't have any trouble with it sliding. This and the pipe to Weaverville from last week should give me a pretty good week for the first time in a long time. And if I go out tomorrow I should have 2 loads on next week's check. It's about time to make a pickup payment, the electric bill's laying here, and gotta pay my real estate taxes-there's never a shortage of something to pay.

What's left of the garden looks pretty good, lots of squash and onions, more tomatoes than we can eat,egg plant, and the hot peppers are loaded! I've been freezing them whole, and when they're all harvested i'm gonna put them in the blender, liquify 'em with some vinegar and salt, boil it for a while, then pour it into bottles-home made hot sauce! I've got ecoli-free jalapenos, tabascos, hot cherry,New Mexico Big Jims, and a Habenero.Thought I had some cayennes, but they turned out to be more jalapenos. Had 3 ears of corn on the cob last weekend-unknown creatures got the rest, most likely those squirrels. Coulda been raccoons, but I suspect the squirrels-you know how they love corn. I planted corn mainly for the pole beans to climb, rabbits ate the pole beans, cabbage, and green beans, and squirrels ate the peaches and corn, and something's started on the pears already. Apparently they don't like tomatoes, egg plant, squash,or hot peppers,or I wouldn't have gotten anything for myself. And we feed the little b@$^#s in the winter! Maybe that's the problem.
And for pictures of the week,we've got a single axle Mack dump truck for sale in Montvale,Va, a Mack mixer on rt. 40 in Pa,my truck hooked to a van at the truckstop south of Lynchburg,(one of about 6 I took Friday just to finish the roll of film) and the black Honda car I took in Georgia last Wednesday.Guess i'm not much of a photographer after all,I cut the whole back of the car off,and it was a sharp looking Honda.

So,as I was sayin' I went to Greensboro yesterday morning and came back and went to Dillwyn and picked up a load of kyanite going to Chester,W.V. I should have delivered it today, but Todd told me to go to the doctor and deliver it Monday. So I did, except for the going to the doctor part.I've had a sore throat on one side all week-hurts all the way from my ear to my neck on the left side. It hurts so bad when I swallow I couldn't even sleep Wednesday night.I went to the store and got some Sudafed,Sucrets,Chloraseptic and aspirin so I hope that'll get rid of it. My son,his wife, and Jeff all had a sore throat recently,so I don't know what's going on.
Now,back to the jobsite adventure- 5 of us loaded 60' concrete bridge beams in Bristol,Tn. and took them to Surry Co.N.C, near Mount Airy. We got off of I-77 at exit 93,turned west, then turned on a little skinny road that was not big enough for a truck. Then we came to a dead end and had to turn right off of a narrow bridge onto an even smaller road. Followed that to another dead end and had to turn right, then back up almost a mile to the bridge job. Had to back across another bridge with a 90 degree turn as you come off it,then around a couple more curves before getting to the jobsite. Then we just backed onto a temporary bridge over the creek and got unloaded. The beams had to be set in sequence,so we unloaded in the same order we got loaded. I took some pictures of course...
hope I get 'em in the right order, but here goes-1. waiting to get loaded, 2.coming to the first narrow bridge, where we had to turn right at the end, 3. the curve coming off the second narrow bridge that we had to back around, 4. still backing up, 5.still backing up 6.still backing up 7.waiting to unload-i'm first in line, which means I was last to unload 8.first truck empty, pulled around to front-notice how narrow the road is! 9.sitting on the temporary bridge, waiting to unload 10.the dead beaver in the mill pond, before we got back to the bridge where we had to make a hard left onto on the way out 11.turning onto the bridge 12.totally unrelated, but I liked it-this is on rt. 250 in W.V. somewhere south of Moundsville.

Last week when I left Thursday going to Masury,Ohio (everybody hates Masury ) Todd told me to "run this load, and you'll be done 'til after Thanksgiving". That didn't really happen, as I left Monday and took a load of fingers (well, that's what they called them) to Milan, Ohio. When I left he said "run this load, and you'll have a four day weekend coming up anyway". That didn't happen either. I delivered in Milan Tuesday, which is near Norwalk, and ran in snow all the way from Strasburg to Milan to Macedonia, which is near Cleveland, and back down I-77 almost to Charleston, W.V. before I ran out of it. I unloaded in Roanoke this morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded up an Orchard Park load for Monday. This is good, I was hoping he was joking when he said i'd be done 'til after Thanksgiving. I like to eat and have electricity too.
After I got home today I processed the turkey-you know, got all the accessories out that they put inside of 'em-and put it in salt water to soak overnight. It's in a cooler on ice on the back porch, along with the four extra turkey legs I bought-the ones that cost more than the whole turkey . Then I made turkey stock from the accessory pack i'd previously removed, and cooked all the sweet potatoes I had and made six pies. I feel like I had a pretty good day. I'll slap that turkey in the smoker oven first thing in the morning, everybody come on over!

Cheswick,Pa.-that's where I went. I remember now, since I've already been there and back. I called Tina, one of our drivers who had been to this jobsite before, and after I talked to her I was beginning to regret taking this load instead of the pipe going to Anderson,S.C. She said it was very cramped, they sat all day waiting to get unloaded because they were pouring concrete, and concrete trucks were in and out all day until 5 o'clock that evening. She also said you had to go down a steep hill and drive onto a barge to get to the island where they were unloading, then they had to be pushed back up the hill, and they had to pick the back of their trailers up with a crane and move them over to make the turn through the gate at the railroad tracks to get out. Geez, what have I gotten myself into here? Usually if you're expecting the worst,it's never that bad. I made it in,you had to cross the tracks and make a hard left after you crossed the tracks but you couldn't pull very far forward through the gate because a crane was set up there, then hug the chain link fence on the left, because then you had to make a hard right to go down the steep cut they had made in the bank, but again you couldn't pull very far forward to make the turn because of a pile of stuff they had on the ground, and there was a little green thing on the right-looked like a gas meter or something-that you had to clear before you turned. I had dumped the trailer air on the back axle and locked the power divider in at first, and made all the turns with inches to spare. When I got down the hill I had to get over as close to the air compressor parked on the right at the bottom to make the hard left onto the "bridge" which was actually barges side by side across the river. When I talked to Tina I thought they put the truck on a barge and floated over to the island, and I wasn't too sure about all that! But I felt pretty good about the bridge when I saw them drive a bulldozer across it before I went across. So I made it onto the bridge and went across and got unloaded, turned around, and went back up the hill OK,and made it back through the gate without having to pick the trailer up and move it over. I should mention that I had a 48' trailer, and the others had 53s, and like I said I had only inches to spare on all the turns, including getting onto the bridge. I reloaded at Macedonia,Oh. for Roanoke and unloaded there Thursday night. Yesterday morning back at the shop Todd gave me a choice of another load of piling to Cheswick or kyanite going to Orrville,Oh. I went with the Orrville.

I made it to Donora all right with that half a load of kyanite.Made up for the light load with the return load though-brought 5 coils back to Lynchburg that weighed 49,980. All 5 of them that is,not each. That's good, they pay by the weight and the load I took to Donora pays the same as a full load. Then I went to Orchard Park with kyanite, but I didn't have time to go to Fishers and do a surprise building inspection because I had to go to Brookfield,Oh. and load some coils for Metalsa in Roanoke. Dropped the trailer at Sonny Merryman's when I got unloaded so they can replace that dump valve.
Then I came home and cut the grass-mower started on the first pull. Now i've got to go to the dentist today, try to get some parts for my old tiller so I can get to work on the garden, and probably go load somewhere to deliver Monday. So even if it seems like you get a day off,you really don't except for Saturday.
And I learned something this week.I ran with Frankie to Orchard Park and back to Roanoke.Frankie who was complaining about his new Peterbilt. He was used to his high powered 550 Cat Western Star, the old single turbo 550. I never ran with the Western Star, but everybody said it was the pullingest truck in the fleet. I thought my truck was doing pretty good, but he outpulled me with the new truck. Same load, and he had a 53' trailer.I had a 48. Outpulled me. With a 485 hp ISX Cummins and 3.36 rears. At least now I don't feel bad about Jeff having one ordered.

A few more random photos from the road...the very narrow street in Wheeling,W.V. I delivered a load of 60' beams on, a big Mack truck, Summit racing in Tallmadge,Oh, a B-model near Zelienople,Pa, A yellow fire truck near Sharon,Pa. (it's for sale!), a huge oversize load, a Swift truck that pulled over on the shoulder-except there was no shoulder there, and the old KB-5 that sat in front of the truckstop in Hubbard,Oh. Now it's parked across the road with a "for sale" sign in the window-$7500.
