  1. AS Peltz, The Mack wiring diagram for B model Firetruck shows the dual battery setup. If you need a copy the Mack Museum has it. I have a copy that I enlarged so I can read it, but is now too big to scan it in. Firemack
  2. Bumblebee, When I have asked the guys that were around when the trucks were ordered, they said 2 things: 1. Better visibility 2. Keep the open look of the trucks they were replacing at our company we had 4 Macks- 1948 open cab, 1951 closed cab, 2 1954 open cabs. The 1954 B model was our last open cab, after that they went with canopy cabs, the driver and passenger were enclosed, the 2 rear seats were open. You would think that after having the 1951 closed cab, which had heater, defroster etc, they would continue, but no- the next trucks were open cabs, with no heater , no defroster, and no horn, although we do have double sided wipers, inside and outside! 3. Dockmen Thanks for posting these, they are both good lokking B models! Firemack
  4. Gene Bob There are several Magneto repair and parts suplliers in the vendor list on the wiki pages of this site http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?app=tutorials&article=5 You should be able to find a vendor that can repair your magnetos. Firemack
  5. Convoyduel, I think those fenders were actually made for Mack by York Corrugated in York PA ( they made our B mack fenders). They still make them, one of the guys close to here bought new SS replacements for about $300. Would be less for regular steel fenders, but then you would need to paint them. I put a post here with their ad and all the info, do a search on york and you should find it. Firemack
  6. TNiss No CDL is required to use the PA antique tag. You are also restricted to hauling only personal items (not for profit). I don't think PA allows trailers to have an antique tag so those using trailers behind a tractor with antique tags may possibly be risking a ticket. Also PA antique tags do not require a PA state annual inspection, but are restricted to daytime driving only. If you have a classic plate- you are required to pass inspection (but no emissions) and can drive the unit at night. Firemack

  8. 61C95 Welcome to the site- The C95 looks in good condition. Sounds like you have a good support team- hope your wife knows how to drive it- My wife wanted to take the kids to school in the Mack. We have actually have picked them up from school a few times- have fun with it! Firemack
  9. We have a local MAACO that paints trucks, they painted a 1950 L model Fire truck in 2002 for $2500, the truck still looks good. (now called RAMCO in Norristown,PA) I just had a car painted the the same shop that painted the L model and the car really looks good. It cost $775. Now my wife want's her car painted! Some of the MAACO's are real slick operators and do scuff and squirt, others will actually do a decent job. I interviewed 3 paint shops and selected the best one. I also looked at their paint jobs on trucks before I made the selection, so I could see the end product and if they were proud of their work. Firemack
  10. Canineseven, Check the National SPAAMFAA appartus directory, then check with the local SPAAMFAA chapter in MO, and see if they have any info or know any members of the Fire Company that owned them. That might give you a starting point, Also you can run a title check in MO to see if they were re registered to a new owner. Firemack
  11. D Goodwin, Fuel pressure is determined by the carb and engine displacment. Normal fuel pressure for a gas engine is approximately 2-5 pounds. You most likley will need to add a fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge (at least temporary) to set the fuel pressure. You can also have the original fuel pump rebuilt by Kanter Auto in Boonton New Jersey. About $88 including shipping. Good Luck Firemack
  12. JDCMIX Try Sonny Renking at S&S Auto 410-437-2638, he knows trucks and firetrucks, and should be able to help you with your L Mack. Firemack
  13. Other Dog, Thanks for posting these. It is always interesting to see what trucks have survived in other parts of the country. Looks like you a had a great show with a variety, lots of Macks, and other old timers that you just don't see anymore. Firemack
  14. JDCMIX I don't see anything in the tune up specs identifying 2 types of plugs for the 707A. I would run the same plugs that are specified. If you need the plug spec let me know. We have had many discussions on this site regarding the oil to use. I called Shell and they recommended the Rotella T single weight oil, so I use Shell Rotella 40W. They recommended against using multi weight as the engine was not designed for that type of oil. They also recommended a detergent oil. Your air cleaner should have a tube connecting the carb to the air cleaner, you should also look into modifying the old air cleaner, unless it is an oil bath type, to use a new type air clenaer, I switched mine to a K&N and works well. 15. JDC MIX Here is the tune spec sheet with all of the info you need, Firemack
  16. Hi Art, I have had mine rebuilt (restored) by Kanter automotive in Booton NJ. They have rebuilt serveral for both the 464 and 707 engines, they take about a month but come back like new- new diaphram, valves, screws, cad plated etc. $88 including shipping, you send yours to them they rebuild and return it. Let me know if you have any other questions, Firemack
  17. I had 65 Impala SS convertible in High school, I think they built that car around the tree, no way a tree can get that big since I was in High school! Firemack
  18. JDCMIx, It should be the 707A engine- which is listed as 225 horspower at 2500 rpm, 578 foot pounds torque. The truck should weigh about 14000 pounds, without water in the tank. Most were straight 5 speeds- however non synchormesh- so you will have to teach your wife how to double clutch if she doesn't know yet.the 2 speed rear should be easy enough to teach her how to use that.
