  1. I just replaced mine and it is not a normal JIC end like the old ones. I had to get one from Redhead in Stoon. I thought both ends swiveled but I can't remember for sure. It was a pain to get at and I thought the fitting came out of the housing and then I took it apart at the vice. this is on the 97 427
  2. Saw this in ontario kijiji, rear windows for B model macks if any one is interested, couple items down, a nice b model single axle too http://www.kijiji.ca/b-ontario/mack-b-model/k0l9004
  3. Wasn't that the first year of the EGR and cooler issues? I've always thought the 2004 and 2005 were the trouble makers and they changed things after. But maybe only in the CH
  4. Well the Blue Ox exhaust brake looks almost identical. Mack called me back to day and the air cylinder is available. They're in Chicago and Baltimore I think he said. Whatever, should be here next week. The exhaust brake is better than the old Dynatard on the R models but it sure is lacking for being a real "great" brake Thanks for the info guys
  5. On my 97 Macks they have the crappy engine brake plus the butterfly valve in the exhaust that is closed with an air cylinder. It works OK but I have a cylinder thats weak and the ball joint assembly is wore out. Mack says they can't get parts for it . Any one have any ideas where to get the air cylinder for it that is air to stroke out and it pulls back on its own. Maybe a spring in there but I"m not sure Glen
  6. My 1997 models shut down after 10 minutes which we like, so maybe you can increase the time.
  7. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1002506428 Maybe someone interested in needing these units. Don't see that many in one place too often Guess the Sleepers not factory but they are still cool.
  8. When I fill with antifreeze I always remove the heater hose that goes into the shutoff valve at the manifold. When a/f comes out of there I close the valve and put heater hose back on. Then open valve and refill. Been working good since I did it that way and haven't airlocked since. 2 guys works better for this if you got because usually I'm on top of the tire
  9. http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=522740&mid=4262991#M4262991 Original thread from Nebraska, Lucky guy for sure
  10. I'm doing this right now as well on a 95 CH 613 with all 6 wheels being spoked. New Gunite hub from Mack (eaton diff) was $500, $260 from parts store front hub was $700 from Mack, $350 from parts store. New aluminum rims 24.5, accuride ultra polished both sides $290 each. Bearings matched so will reuse them, and seals were $40 studs and nuts $9 set Drums $80 All said and done it should be $5900 Canadian, but 4 of the rims go on another truck with steels that I am going to put on Inners so that both trucks have Aluminum outside. This truck had 22.5's before so now all the trucks and trailers will have the same size. Seems like an awful lot but now that I started it I have to finish it. My uncle is a gravel hauler who is interested in the old tires for his trailers, being it costs as much at a tire shop to remove the tire I will probably just give him the rims. No interest in the hubs as of yet but spoked wheels are getting pretty uncommon around here now. And I think used drums are pretty much free
  11. Great job on the truck, my first Mack was a red one as well... yours looks a lot nicer. Tanks and wheels are nice!!
  12. We can buy a thin black rubber circle with the holes already in it for in between rims. Our Aluminum rim trucks have them already between rims and and next to brake drum. Being we don't put a lot of miles on the truck and it only upsets the speedo by about 3 mph it probably won't get changed. It does 70 mph at 1800 rpm now.
  13. So the truck that I am changing to Unimount hubs has 11/22.5 Rubber, but I would like to convert it to 24.5 now as then all my trucks and trailers would be the same. This trucks has a nice bull low gear so is there any reason that I shouldn't do it? The difference is only 4% between the 44" diameter tires I run on my trucks to the 42 1/4 " diameter of the ones on there now. This truck only pulls single trailer and not a B train as it runs a 350 Mack Also is there any reason that I couldn't run steel rims on the inside? As long as it had that rubber piece to prevent corrosion.
  14. The value of a parts guy is invaluable. With the bearing numbers and brains he could set me up with hubs to convert it to Unimount rims pretty easy.
  15. This weeks polishing went well.
  16. Love the tour . Beats interstating
  17. I have mine in a open ended shed, not much snow gets on them. I have oil and block heaters which work good till about -30 degrees C. (25 below F). If we need the trucks and its colder than that we will put just the trucks in the heated shop until morning and hook back up to the trailers. If it gets much colder It gets too hard on equipment. I agree that the salt works faster when its warmer, salt won't work if its too cold on the highways either.
  18. I lost a computer on a 97 mack this year during harvest. Slam it with your hand and it would fire up again. Reader said it was showing 19 volts even though alternator was unhooked. When you slapped it the voltage went to 13.6 then fired up. Searched all over and couldn't find a used computer, new one was $2100 and they shipped it to me, then we drove it to Mack to get programmed as the new one only is programmed enough to get you there, low hp, no cruise, speedo wrong. They said very few ever fail. But the newer ones were $6000 so I guess I will be happy it worked out.
  19. hey all, My 95 Mack CH 613 with a 350 9spd Eaton has 40,000 rear diffs and spoked Dayton wheels front and back. I have the opportunity for a set of used aluminum Uni mount rims Budd rims. My thought is on the 4 rear hubs are they a Mack or an Eaton thing. Also the front axle, is it a Mack axle or something else? thoughts? Glen
  20. Pretty posiitive my R's filters were passenger side, just in front of the dipstick tube about a foot, inside frame rail. You could see the top of them but we changed them from underneath. Now if you had a V8 in there I don't think they'd fit.
  21. Just put one on my 97 mack diff, it is now square instead of round, $273. Canadian. Sure seems pricier than before but I can't remember what they were costing then either
  22. Brought the 4 boys out to play. Harvest is over but I did remember to grab a couple pics of the Ch's 3-1997's and 1- 1995. the 97's are all gold dog and pull the doubles and the 95 pulls the single They been good to me.
  23. So would that have an eaton rearend? Looks like its not a camelback or a mack diff
