  1. Buzzkill, but a valid point nonetheless.
  2. I don't have either one of those on my list. Maybe I deserve to get my dick stomped in the dirt. My List: 1.U 2. n/a 3. n/a 4. n/a 5. n/a
  3. Okay, just checking. I work with drivers who started with the company as dockworkers 20+ years ago and have been driving for 15 years and have never heard of floating gears or progressive shifting because they've had no exposure to anything outside the company. I skipped gears with an empty while doing a ride along when I first started at PO and the driver I was with thought I was screwing up even though the shifts were as smooth as silk. I won't do anything that will cause unnecessary stress on the driveline.
  4. Have you considered skipping gears on the low side when light? With an empty on a 10 speed, I'll start in 3rd, go to 5th, then 6th or 7th-no skipping on the high side, but you can skip "into" the high side. Because of the bigger step between gears, rpms need to drop as with a Maxidyne. Forgive me if you already knew all this.
  5. Welcome and congratulations on earning your HR license. My story is similar to yours as I also grew up in the industry but did not get my class A until I was 37. One difference is that instead of going on a month long holiday in the tropics, I took the family to Niagara Falls for a week.
  6. That sure does look good. It's funny how even a small item can improve the overall appearance.
  7. I drove an '89 R690T with an EM6-250L that had a 5 speed. I believe 275 and 300 hp versions were available at that time. I was wondering how the 9 speed worked with a torque curve designed for a 5 spd. I thought if the engine were allowed to lug down as usual, dropping a gear on the 9 speed would bring it back up to the middle of the power band and allow a higher road speed. I've read however (possibly on here) that it just doesn't work wel as a 5 spd.
  8. Good to hear your hard work is paying off. Is that the 285 hp engine in front of the 9 speed?
  9. Looks well cared for. It's nice that you not only keep it in the family but also know it's history. 20 mpg sounds great for a workhorse like that.
  10. I couldn't figger that out. Are you smart or am I stupid?
  11. Oh.
  12. I brightened it up some.
  13. How many U models will fit in Uranus?
  14. They sure are. I go with the one-way rental and, for a few extra bucks, straps and pads.
  15. What?
  16. You may want to switch to water or an artificial sweetener for easier clean-up. Trust me, I have plenty of experience cleaning sticky substances off computer keyboards.
  17. The Crackerbox was on Ebay twice about 4-5 years ago. I've seen the GMC, and later the IH parked in his driveway on Rt 31 just east of Somerset, but I haven't been that way in a few years. It's possible he has retired as he appeared to be at least in his mid-60's from the few glimpses I've caught of him. Underdog's pic is also a scene I witnessed a few times with the Crackerbox-climbing a hill on the PA Tpke. That looks like the eastbound side between Donegal and Somerset, maybe around the 100 mm near the old Laurel Mtn Tunnel.
  18. It's for the best, you'll be safe there. As for the loonies, the full moon was Friday but I think the chocolate and holiday traffic will make up the difference.
  19. Great pics, I don't think I 've seen any of those before, It's interesting how the cab on the V-8 in the first pic is not raised. They mention the U795 in the caption, but would this be a U615 since it has the marker lights next to the headlights? IIRC the marker lights were discontinued around '67 and the 865 was introduced for the '70 model year.
  20. Be careful. Lots of loonie's with a chocolate buzz on the road this evening trying to set land speed records on the way back to the house.
  21. The steel dash models I'd seen as a kid only had the standard gauges with the exception of the '68 I'd mentioned. So 2 uses for the center panel would be for additional gauges beyond the standard in the main cluster and the location for the standard gauges when the Sangamo tachograph is used in place of the standard speedo and/or tach. The '66 on OMT has an unused larger postion to the far right. I assume that's for the Pyrometer?
  22. He seems like an honorable man. I'm sure if he found her he'd marry her. Didn't see that one in the brochure.
  23. That's Pennsylvania Algebra.
  24. I think I layed an egg, there's a suspicious bulge in my shorts.
