Sounds similar to the Diamond T / International relationship immediately after WW 2... The design engineers for both companies were close personal friends... But nobody knows for sure who designed the IH Compfovision cab of 1950..

Triplex shifting
Brocky replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That is an excellent video.. You can see how long it takes for the RPM's to drop when shifting the main. Then he brings them back up with the auxiliary. You notice that the RPM drop in the auxiliary is small enough to be able to float shift it. It would be best to hook to an empty trailer, for a little load, in a big parking lot (2nd to 3rd) or a back road (3rd to 4th) to get the hang of how the gears compound themselves. 4th to 5th will be the same BUT you will need room enough for that speed. Not sure on splitting all of 5th as it will depend on your RPM drop going into 5th in the main??? The gear ratios vary for different models of transmissions. Quite possibly you will only need direct and over in 5th??? Notice that in the second video that he shifts both levers at once in the lower gears but does not from 4th to 5th. Just play with it!!! And you will get the hang of it... -

All of your Conn driving comments are the main reason I DO NOT go up to visit my daughter in Cheshire very often.... Plus my arthritic hips can not sit in one place that long..

Why do you think it is the Dumbocrats that are doing ALL the bitching???

Just a reminder that this coming Sat and Sun (Labor Day Weekend) is the ATHS Palmetto Upstate Chapter show in conjunction with the Dacusville Heritage Assn farm days. I am going to be presenting Dean Jenkins (1961H67) with his ATHS 50 year achievement award. If all BMT guys that show up near the chapter tent about 11 AM(???) maybe we can build a group picture??

Cruiseliner Transformation
Brocky replied to cruiseliner64's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Not only low mileage but with so many parts date coded it must be about the most factory original antique / historical vehicle that has been worked around. I have heard about some cars which were bought new and put away. The green Louisville Ford in the Background of this picture only has a few hundred miles on it as Erv Bickford bought a fleet of these and never put it in service. -

ED, I have never seen a pumper with those big hose reels in the back.. How do they work??? Maybe GA Dave can answer??? -
I have heard that the Cracker Barrel idea came from the old Bean Pot restaurant in Crossville Tenn with parking for about a half dozen trucks. My wife loves them BUT the hardest and most expensive part is getting her thru the store part to the door going out.. I always thought they were like the old Howard Johnsons:: Overpriced for the size of the portion..

I would guess higher!!!! possibly 28k??? He has a 40 ft tri-axle trailer with more living quarters in it. What does his "battleship" weigh?? My quadcab Dodge Ram 3500 with a steel flatbed, 32 foot tandem axle gooseneck, and the 49 Diamond T 201 (5000 lb) goes on the high side of 23,000 full of fuel..

Reminds me of a safety man who took my wife out of the only tractor she had driven, a Pete with a 15 over transmission with the inverted pattern for a road test in his KW city tractor with a standard 9 speed and came back and said she should go to school as she could not shift right!!!! And the rest of the drivers just laughed at HIM!!!

PM Dean Jenkins, user name 1961H67, He is a 50 year mechanic, 32 of them with Ryder leasing, in the Ashville NC area. He should know of a North Carolina spring shop...
