  2. Less than 19 weeks, Bubba can’t get out of this fast enough…. Bob
  3. I’ve been out there 49 years and still have an open ear…. Unfortunately at this point I’m usually smarter than the 65 drivers around me… bob
  4. Today
  5. What specific motor were you thinking of putting into it? If there's nothing wrong with the body I would say it would be worth swapping in a different motor, but you have to keep in mind that the transmission could be the reason it was originally parked and there isn't a real good way of testing those till you get everything back together. I see now why multi head motors aren't made here anymore, having one big head makes them harder to steal
  6. Hmm?? Is it a free truck? what do you mean by abandoned? The CV is a great working Dog chassis..
  7. Yesterday
  8. I didn't even look at the date. Looks like he hasn't been on in a month
  9. an old timer many many many years ago(around 45) retired and needed something ot do to keep from killing his wife. so he bought an autocar tandem dump.....with a 903 in it backed by a 13 speed trans. dark brown with gold flake paint, and an aluminum body that looked like a mirror. it was garage kept. never went out in the rain, and was washed each night before being backed into the garage. Mr Lang had most of the engine chrome plated too. that truck was a head turned where ever it went. no one ever knew what happened to it after he passed away, and it was never seen again.
  10. Yes Sir that is true. I was blessed to grow up with a Grandfather that was a mechanic and what he didn't know he read about and passed his knowledge on to me. Most of what I know on these big trucks I've learned by experience or asked. That quote for me is more a joke than anything. I usually say it after I've figured something out and fixed it right or helped a friend out fixing their stuff. It's also more of a " I don't claim to know it all or be a professional" kinda thing as well.
  11. I think(??) Schneider had some in their Transtars????
  12. a number of fleets back in 70's-?? ran the V-903. Guyott oil in CT had the long nose Brockway with 903's. one of my first trucking experiences as rider was in a Guyott oil Brockway which a neighbor drove. a Brockway having the old style cab NOT the converted Mack cab Brockway.
  13. from reading the forums here ' that sentence seems to be the way of the dealer mechanics today at $150-200 per hr. they know little but guess and just change parts till problem fixed or at least a little better.
  14. beyond sharp looking piece of history. best of positive to it restoration.
  15. now YOU have distinguished Yourself as a detective / mechanic. It's the small items noticed which make a difference. to have only a $1.oo for everyone of those bells I installed.!!! major construction fleet in CT having bought (#356-376)first batch of DM686 SX dumps I had to weld a 1/2 (5/8?) fine thread nut onto center of axle cap allowing install of the backup bells. couldn't use the brackets due to deep axle cap. also welded nut center cap for hubometers.
  16. That's a big plus....I'm the same way....as Lynrd Skynrd Said "I know little....Baby we can guess The rest"
  17. Plus I know how to work on things without butchering them. Thus my wire harnesses are all nice and fully functional in all my vehicles.
  18. Actually the wagon has a alum cell my friend made for it, I installed an aftermarket sending unit for a Ford gauge so it reads properly in the stock dash. Since the cell is under the car I can't just see in the top, it also fills from the stock filler cap on the side of the car. If the cell was in the back of the car, I would have to have a panel made to divide it from the passenger compartment for fire safety. I didn't want to deal with that. The cell is narrow to clear the wheelie bars.
  19. Hey guys, new member here. Just looking for some advice or feedback on a truck that I now own. Back story was it belonged to my father when he owned a construction business but he passed in 2019. Truck sat before he passed and was purchased from an auction. What was wrong with it before I’m not sure. Fast forward to 2024 the truck had sat so long someone actually stole the heads off the motor, the tarp cover or whatever you call it, tarp motor and few parts from the motor section. I’m looking into putting a used motor with 128k miles in it. The aluminum dump body and frame are all in great condition. Just wondering if it’s worth to spend the assumed 20-25k to put it back together and use it for the quarry for my first truck.
  20. I doubt you are running the stock gauges on your race car, so you wouldn't be using one, unless for fuel, but that would be a cell no? They worked fairly well but were a known weak point. Early King Seeley gauges had that part in the sender itself and those senders are hard to come by now. I don't know when Ford and Chry phased out the K-S gauges early 80's?
  21. I doubt this person will see this but it popped up that it hadn't been answered yet so I thought I'd kindly oblige.
  22. No that's what you call having parts built to last and work for a long time lol
  23. Yeah, mine wont be doing pulls. Both are equipped with k301 10 horse motors. The first one runs great but all it’s gonna see is shows and maybe mow the tops off the high spots in my horse pasture. The one i’m currently working on will plow a little snow and my gatden.
  24. ^2x what he said. Unless you're keeping it off road and you plan on keeping it forever its probably not worth it. Plus you would need a way to program it which from what I hear about Volvo isn't easy.
