I have a Mack td713 and I was driving the other day and it popped while pulling a hill and it would do it the rest of the way back anytime you would put it under a load in any high side gear so after reading on here and talking to my dealer we checked the shift fork and the bolt was snug .So we removed the transmission and removed the synchronizer but all the high side gears look good the inside teeth on the low range hub and it’s opposing gear are chewed up pretty good will these have any effect on high side or are there other things to look for

Is the popping in any gear when pulling hard?

Any worn clutching teeth will become an issue, if not already. Will it do it in the dirt when pulling hard? Do you have an air locking power divider ?

No it’s just in high side I don’t have a power divider I’m just concerned about the low range hub being chewed up and everything on the high side looks fine range shift fork back for high side forward for low is that correct

Ok.. thanks. Want to be on the same page..

I assume you checked the u-joints.

Well, i have an idea, but need to wait to see your updates..

When it pops it’s like it pops out of gear rpm’s jump you hear gears clash if you let off it grabs ahold again until you apply load  it’s not that I’m afraid to put the synchronizer in I just want to be sure it’s the problem

The fork looks like new there is probably a 1/16 gap between the fingers and the ring it runs in should that be tighter? and the clutches all look I’d go for a reman trans but we are getting rid of the truck. If I put a synchronizer kit in is there anything else not in this kit that could be causing my issues if all the other parts in the back case look good

Since you are selling it,  just do the synchro. And shift cylinder orings if you want to freshen them up.

Ok.... im gonna say it... i bet the popping noise is the power divider...

i have a friend that had a olderDM with a quad, he swore it was the transmission making noise, took it out, got it rebuilt and still had the noise, yeah front rear end was the problem.  terry:MackLogo:

leave the yoke on. remove the bolts and slide the input shaft out. the peanuts will come out with it and they are caged. there will be a 'star' shaped gear inside, that is the inner cam.  the peanuts may look ok but the inner cam is likely grooved really bad..
