Got some bad news this morning from Bob Manchester that his dad passed away during the night after an on and off battle with cancer.

Bob started a career with Amoco as a driver and when he retired he was a terminal manager. He and his sons established a beautiful collection of Macks, Autocars and a 761 Brockway that carried the name "Manchester Bros" and were kept in Cromwell Ct and Downingtown Pa.

He was a most knowledgable person when it came to distribution in the oil industry as well trucks in general.  And most importantly , a great friend who will be remembered and missed by many.

Bob

Sorry to hear the sad news. as one of the older folk today . we see more and more of the passing of TV stars/ music icons passing we grew up with ; seems it cuts closer to home when the sad news is from the trucking industry , TV/music icons will be replaced ; those passing in the trucking industry can never be replaced. their  knowledge/ drive/ experience will  never be duplicated. will have a different appreciation when I pass the Manchester tanker on 84 now. a tip of the hat and a Thank You Sir. much like passing a vehicle with a plate stating VETERAN receives.

It sure hits close to home, a good friend of mine just passed away Sunday. I was driving for H.H. Moore Jr. in the early 80's when he started to work there. Ran many loads of steel to Boston with him.

He came off the road several years ago after he had heart bypass surgery and when he recuperated he went to work in the shop at FLM. Worked his ass off too, mainly on trailers, doing lights, tires, brakes, etc. Many times I'd go in the shop and he'd be working and just pouring sweat and everybody else would be looking at their phones or something.

He was a great guy, came over to Gladys one time to help me work on that old Dodge pickup I had, came to several backyard barbecues. I had just asked Jeff last week why he was still working, and he said it was so his wife could stay on his insurance.

He was the same age as me.
