Saw a neat grease removal trick discussed on a Boston Trucker video.  The guy recommended dabbing hand cleaner onto greasy parts with a paint brush.  He said to let it soak for while and then hose it off with a garden hose - no pressure washer required.  Claimed it worked very well with minimal splatter compared to a high-pressure system.  As he is a "well seasoned" gentlemen I'd have no reason not to believe him.  Might try it on my next tractor project...

Thanks for that Dave. Yes, I believe it probably works because as we discussed, Dawn dish soap does look pretty good job also with a brush if it’s not that bad just a little oily and greasy, the dawn  will take it right off. right now I’m back at it with a bowl of gasoline and a brush. Sometimes if you don’t have the proper equipment, you just have to make do with what you’ve got. I used to have access to a forklift until I got this little chicken. Shit debate  with the neighbor, but you know how that goes. It doesn’t take much where people quit talking to you for some reason or another

It’s amazing how much dirt and grease can build up on that stuff over the years.   All the old mechanics i knew said grease was cheaper to put in them then a new part.   They were right.     Just cleaning all of it back off is a chore.     Keep up the good work.

lol well I was hoping this thing was not gonna be in the garage this long but everything’s taking longer than I figured and yes, between the grease oil dart and heat it all turns to cement after years and years, and you can’t even get it off with a chisel

what are you going to use for air horn(s) ? small set duals from factory or trumpets ;one or two ??

Well, it originally came with a single longhorn through the year as I put a set of double trumpets on it I like the way they sound a little bit better, but I decided that I like the way the single horn looks that it originally had a while back. I messaged Barry and he told me he did not have any at the time, but he’s checking into ordering more because he’s still getting a big demand for them and about a month later he messaged me that they came in. I guess he had to find a different vendor that was manufacturing them I really wasn’t anywhere near using those parts, but I wanted to grab them while they were available I might have to just jump on that roof. Sometime next spring, any improvements would make it look a little better than it does

ok after laying around half the day finally got out there to start more dreaded clean up decided i need to separate the hub from the drum,,,thiers just too much crud between them,,,im not putting it back together that way

Hell, just pressure wash the mated set, knock out the old seals and pressure wash it. If the drum bolts are bad,  replace them one at a time.  Unless of course you need to do some weight lifting if you skipped a gym day.. 💪

Just roll the drum with spider still attached outside and then drop it apart

You'll be surprised at how easy it rolls without wheels

Get a sheet of ply for on the ground, even if you have cement area to work on, it is much easier to scrape the crud off the ply than explain why you keep walking grease into the house for the next 6 months

And Paul I think you got some thing there I’m gonna lift it off the motorcycle jack and put it on the floor roll everything out behind the garage atleast I can make lotsa messes and don’t have to worry about walking in it … thanks again for the hot tip

And how did the car wash enjoy your greasy mess  ?

I tried this once with a inline 671 in the back of my ute

Not enough heat or power maybe both to clean a very very dirty 2 stroke GM

I had black freckles all over me and and the ute ended up a mess and the motor still wasn't clean

I decided my future love affair with the 671 was waining very quickly ha ha ha ha

I’m gonna scrape off most of the heavy stuff before i go over there so I’ll just basically be blowing off I thin layer of oil …. The car wash also offers a degreaser mode I’ll soak everything with that before anything else And  for sure 10- 4 on the  lotsa brown freckles
