was never a fan of the chisel Technique idea . one persons idea of a "blunt" chisel could be ???? hammer tapping number of spots on the  ring worked for me. didn't take a 20 lb sledge hammer.  install the bearing and new seal ; fill hub full as possible . install.

Always a risk, someone doing something different. The "theory" behind the blunt or rounded end chisel is that concentrates the blow in a small area, it thins and expands the ring, without cutting.

Well, I just got back. Thanks for all your input fellas I was having nightmares first glance of anfirst glance of a portable machine axle repair and yes, that makes sense outside bearing grease. I think we heard that from High crop on his B 81 there is definitely no grease  in this outer bearing. It’s just rearend  oil and the outside seal seems to be in really good shape

don't see a reason for any one seal not being available. basically depends on ;; 1- access to seal installers for seal being used. 2= not owning a fleet. your not going to spend $$$ for seal installing tools (1 or 4).  have used the old C/R seal to install a new one. right diameter , can tap old against new . works great. proper c/r tools (had them also) are the best for total install, let us not forget others such as National (not my #1 choice).

agree 100 per cent.

I think this wedding rang thingy is probably the biggest issue as you all can see. It’s pretty grooved. I’m surprised it didn’t leak earlier than it did.

ring is a throw away by the picture. manufactures such as National didn't have a ring. hubs had grooves worn into them. stemco back then was "the cat's ass" for seals. I don't know what a cat had to do with it ;;don't ask!!LOL

This thing that’s in there looks like a regular car axle seal it’s got a lip around the edges so you don’t push it too far as I mentioned. It looks too new to be original.

that's all it is . seal located in center of hub or in axle cap ?? yours has caps correct =it's only a S = has 44's?? with caps ??

Ah, you too? National was my last choice, IDK why I had trouble with them?

CR Classic with the correct driver made quick work, but the old seal, a flat plate and some careful hammer work would get the new seal in without damage if needs must.

Since all my trucks and trailers only used a few seal numbers, I kept some on hand. I had spokes, so a brake job meant a seal change as well.

One  trailer had inboard stud pilot, so that was another that needed a seal change for a brake job.

No, it doesn’t have caps. I’ll go out there and take some more pictures of the morning. Or tomorrow’s sometime I’m exhausted at least I’m glad we’re getting somewhere here instead of hearing  NA ha ha that’s like a four letter word

so the inner is a stemco ; can tell by the blue color also looks to be 2129 0n the seal. enlarged still not clear. I can't remember what the outer seal rides on. spacer /axle shoulder ? seal way smaller then the outer bearing.
