3208 was a good little motor for what it was

Certainly wasn't a throw away motor, it just never was wet sleeved so needed maching at rebuild like most conventional motors

Not all diesels are wet sleeved, look at your SUV and pickups

All good motors but have their limitations

From my use the 3208 is the worst Cat engine ever made and probably one of the worst diesel engines ever made!

Ever heard of the Cat C9S? That is the worst cat engine ever made, last one's were made a decade ago and already you don't see them anymore.

The non turbo 3208's make great boat anchors but the Turbocharged and after cooled one's are pretty snazzy for there day. Have one in a 1987 Wanderlodge that starts and runs better than any old cummins.

a friend has a C9 in a 2004 pete triaxle with a 13 speed trans.

le loves it. it ain't a speed demon, but it gets the job done and also gets very good fuel mileage.

The C9's are good but its the C9S that are junk. They rushed into the new emission's with common rail and variable geometry turbo which caused a the whole thing to be unreliable. In addition they're also very hard and odd to work on, they have a gear driven air compressor that has to be timed for some reason.
