I remember the smith U-models well. so different today from the years gone by.( the fun days), so many "big name " fleets no longer with us. east coast alone had such a long list .won't even try to remember their names.  of course there were those westerners that "invaded "our space ::::MONFORT of COLORADO.  everyone "most" stopped when the word monfort was spoken!!LOL

Yes, used to cry about that all the time to the  old  lady union pensions and some of these hitious junk I have been stuck in thru out the years ….. U model would suit me fine … well here it is Monday morning back to the old grind. Ha ha but a nice four days off… bob

Check Pinterest for additional Smith’s U model Mack pictures.  I’ve found many pictures of the old trucks I love there. You can pin the photos and it will save them for you on the ap too

I remember Smith's Transfer very well, they were out of Staunton, just over the mountain from here. I always heard them and Overnite were both good companies to work for.

I heard the story somewhere along the line that the head man at Smith's saw a truck that wasn't backed up to a dock straight. He mentioned it to the driver, who had no idea who he was, and the driver said "well if you think you can do better why don't you do it". So he jumped in the truck and backed it up to the dock perfectly straight.
