Mack Military Truck ?

Recommended Posts

I've got an M123A1C and it has been an awesome truck for my logging business. Unfortunately, the motor just went on me. It broke the crank and now I am having a heck of a time finding replacement parts. At this point, I'm in such a need for it and having such a time finding a replacement V8 300 or parts for it, that I am thinking of just finding a motor to fit it. Any one have a suggestion of something that will do the job? The 300 Cummins was 785 CI, 300hp 300RPM to a Mack TRD XT72 trans., 5spd with a hi and low. I just need something that will fit and bolt up.

Why don't you contact Cummins (1-800-DIESELS / 1-800-343-7357) and explain that you want to replace a 300hp model P1525 Cummins V-8. Ask them what other Cummins V-8s are a direct-fit replacement. Don't go up in power and torque though (you don't want to exceed that transmissions torque capacity).

Have you contacted the miliary trucks parts suppliers like Memphis Equipment (901-774-0600) and White Owl (Kinston, NC 252-522-2586). They may have new, government-rebuilt or running used.

Memphis dropped the M123a1c trucks a few years back they won't be much help. The VT370 is the same engine with a turbo charger. You won't exceed the transmission's ability. The cummins diesel was weakier than the LeRoi gasser by 145tq.

LeRoi HT844:

297hp/725tq.

Cummins P1525 V300:

300hp/580tq.

They call it many names:

V210 P1525 V300 V785 and VT370.

All the very same engine and rotating assembly the truck was designed in 1955 and built through 1970.

Some where reman'd '70/'71/'72 also got retro-fitted with a V903.

Hope this helps you out

Mike

The Freightliner-badged M915A5 6x4 has a Western Star cab and Australian market Western Star hood. However I believe the chassis is Freightliner.

The M915A5 is produced in Cleveland, North Carolina, a Freightliner manufacturing location for the Cascadia, Century Class, Columbia and exported Argosy II COE.

No doubt it can be tough to make money on military contracts, but with Freightliner, Western Star and Detroit Diesel all owned now by Daimler, I'm sure the Germans made money.

Three more Mack RMs for overseas militaries. I apologize for the terrible picture quality but the trucks are impressive.

The Air Force's RM has the air reservoir common to civilian Macks opted with Ingersoll-Rand air starters (http://www.ingersollrandproducts.com/airstarters/pdfs/f-237KB.pdf).

Note the roof-mounted heat shield on the second RM, just as British enclosed-cab Mack NRs were fitted with for North Africa.

The last RM with the 300 "Cool Power" hood scoop and 24.00-21 tires is just so impressive..

With a 115,000 pound (52 metric ton) GCW rating, Mack Trucks aimed the RD-8226SX 6x6 at the tank transporter market. Standard spec’s included the legendary E9-500 V-8, CLS795 clutch, 10-speed T-2100 transmission, TC15 transfer case, 227-inch wheelbase and 12.00-24 rubber.

The chassis on the 915A5 is not the same as an A3, I just happen to have been around the A3 quite a bit in IQ. The word we got was the Western Star cabbed truck was the only way to satisfy the new rfp for a set forward axle small sleeper truck convertible to extra seating.
