I have a Prevost bus that is an RV, weighs over 50,000 lbs and in Ohio where I live I do not need a CDL to drive it. When I bought my 1958 Mack dump I decided to get my class A CDL. With air brakes and pulling an equipment trailer that throws me over the edge and I didn't want to chance it. I took a week's training at a local truck driving school and passed the Class A CDL test even though I only needed a Class B license for my truck. I would recommend that anyone involved with trucks get their CDL. I am 63 and have not had drivers training since I was 16. I have driven large RV's for 15 years and boy was I surprised what I learned about driving large trucks. I think it would make all of us better and safer drivers. As the saying goes "never too old to learn" Denny
  7. On another forum I'm on, one of the guys from Chicago always signs off " where the dead vote often" Denny
  8. Thanks Rhasler, just what I was looking! Again, thanks. Denny
  9. Can anyone run the following Serial Number and give me the original specs on this truck - 1M2AR07Y8JM009797 ? Thanks. Denny
  10. Rob, There was a truck at the Macungie show where the owner did the same thing. He took, I believe, a CH Mack chassis and put a B Model cab on it. He then added a camper to it fashioned as a walk in sleeper from the cab. He also pulls a trailer with his antique trucks in it. If you look at the pictures on this site of the show you will see his yellow "B Model". His White dump truck was one of the featured trucks on the Fox News coverage - "Hoover's Stone Quarry" name on the dump sides. He is Tim Hoover of Saltsburg, PA and his email is hooverstone@verizon.net He is very proud of what he has done and would be more than glad to tell you about it. My wife and I walked by it and I commented to him "what a nice looking truck" and he told us the story of the conversion and the building of the camper along with a tour of it. He did do a great job on everything. His antiques trucks are first class. Denny
  11. My father had a Gulf station until he retired in 1987. I grew up working there thru grade school, high school and college ( graduated from college in 1970). I clearly remember those days of a service station where service was main thing. Clean the windows, check the oil and the tires. Of course, if the car had a good looking woman sitting in the front seat the windshield always got the second or third treatment! These kids today don't know what they are missing just collecting the money behind the counter. In Northeast Ohio, we had Amoco in the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. It was always a higher octane unleaded clear gas versus all other companies having leaded gas and was a few cents per gallon more. We also had Sohio which was the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. Some of the others in the area were Pennzoil, Sinclair, Humble and Sunoco and just across the state line in Pennsylvania were Esso, Boron and Quaker State to name a few. Denny
  12. That's me, Denny (DCR) second from right. Thanks to everyone for creating such a great show. Now I really have MMD, Mad Mack Disease! Denny
  13. My truck had many of the above symptoms also. I had the king pins replaced, the front springs taken apart and the rust and junk cleaned out and the front end aligned. It is like a new 1958 Mack. The shake, rattle and roll is gone. It rides better, steers much easier and the road wandering is gone. Denny
  14. Thanks for the info on the Septeber show. What day is it? Look forward to meeting you in Macungie. Denny
  15. There are many tire conditioning products available from any auto parts store. They will give the tire a nice black shine and UV protect the tire also. I have used 303 on my motorhome tires for years. Denny
  16. 220cummins, Where in the Pittsburgh area are you from? I live in Hubbard, OH, near Youngstown and my wife is from Houston, PA, 20 miles south of Pgh.
  17. Since I am relatively new to BMT and have never attended Macungie I would like to meet the forum members who are attending. It would be nice to put names and faces together. Is there a place where forum members hang out and socialize? Denny
  18. My wife and I will be there and staying in the camping area. Look forward to meeting everyone and learning more about Mack trucks. Denny
  19. Rob, Thanks for the pictures of South Bend. They are greatly appreciated. Denny
  20. Rhasler, Thanks for the info; will check out in the am. Denny
  21. Rob, Thanks. Searched several times and cannot find a FA 505 axle. I must be doing something wrong; sent them an email. Denny
