  1. 1/2" thick plate steel, notch out for frame rails, slide plate on and weld to the frame. I also like to bolt a piece of 1/4" 2x3 or 3x3 angle iron to the plate and thru the frame sides. you can get a 2" receiver at tractor supply, mark out the size and cut a square hole in plate, slide in the receiver and weld it in place, front and back. I also welded a 1' piece of 2x2 square stock on top of the receiver and welded it to the plate for extra strength in case I had something real heavy on. If you drop the plate real low beneath the frame, weld a piece of 1/8" or 1/4" 2x2 angle iron to the plate and run up the outside of the frame rail and bolt it there, This will add more lateral support. We've installed a few of these this way and have never had a problem pulling excavators and dozers. I've had a 10k mini on the trailer and hooked to my dually and the hitch worked fine.
  2. 2 gauges that I won't drive a truck with out are a boost gauge and a pyrometer. A boost gauge is like $25 and simple to install, the pyro kit is around $200 and may require a new head pipe, but well worth the cost considering the damage that can be averted and the fuel savings that can be obtained by using the two together.
  3. My A-car has a 8LL O/D, which gives you lower low gears and the road speed with the over drive. not a bad trans with torque in front of it but it stinks with a little engine. Other than going to a Mack 6spd, air shift or 2 stick, I don't know of any transmissions that allow shifting in reverse from low to high and back again without the possibility of damage.
  4. the god dog thing is a myth, at least nowadays. my 01 vision had the gold dog and the engine was the only thing that was mack. eaton trans and rears.
  5. My 01 460 had a coolant filter as well. The bracket looked like it just plain bolted on by the t-stat housing.
  6. never gave it a thought someone would want to steal a 27 yr old ugly dump truck! I'm just glad I hadn't bought the new box and changed out the old 2 stick 6spd for a new 13spd. I hope that the guy who drove it there pissed blood for a week!
  7. The Brockway was made in Cortland NY, about an hr away from me. I drove a Mackway (Brockway with the mack cab) a few times for a asphalt company I used to work for. The usual driver of that truck used to work for Brockway and told me the story of why Mack shut the plant down, what a shame. Seems, as he told it, that the Brockway workers union had negotiated a new contract with Mack, and according to him Mack had agreed to almost all of they had asked for. Then the Mack workers negotiated theirs and had gotten a better deal (probably asked for more), when the Brockway union found out they went back and demanded more. Mack basically said no, so they threatened to strike and was told that if they strike that they would be shut down. They went out on strike and Mack shut the plant down. Stupid. The old plant stood for years until Rubbermaid cut a deal with NY state and Cortland county, for big tax breaks and a new plant. So they tore down the Brockway plant and built a new plant there for Rubbermaid. 7 years later when the tax break deal was over Rubbermaid packed their bags and left. There is a Brockway club in Cortland and every year they shut a street down and have their "Brockway days" truck show. Some real sharp Huskies show up for it.
  8. with out a pic I'm going off of a bad memory..... The one on the end of the indicator stalk is for the high beam flash.... The one to the left of the cruise is either the shut down over ride or if you have a sleeper it is supposed to shut the fridge off. Going off my memory of my 01' Vision
  9. it was parked at my Dad's place, sitting 50' from my Aunt's trailer and 200' from his house, they had either been watching it or happened to see my Brother using it the day before,to know that it would start. It was insured, but i allowed the ins. company to talk me into dropping the coverage down from 20k to 17k because they said that the truck was old and they wouldn't pay that much. They valued the truck at almost 24k! The A-car is insured for 25k!
  10. yea. Last week, just to add insult, I received a ticket from ezpass. seems they ran the truck through the ez pass lane at the harriman toll both and then the toll at the tappan zee bridge.... hmmmm, wonder were it went...
  11. other than someone else wanted it way more than I, nothing. It was stolen back on Feb. 6th.
  12. Well the RD has been replaced with a 1986 Autocar DK tri axle. 3406B Cat, 8LL o/d, 44k rears, 20k lift and 20k front After getting it home it went into the shop and got the drive line went through, replacing all the bolt on yokes, updating them to the half round u-joints, the #1 drive shaft had to be rebuilt, new carrier bearing, female slip joint on #2 replaced and the jack shaft between the drives was replaced. Pulled the pan to check the mains and rods and found them to be fairly new, not even wore through the first layer. After returning home I started in on all the little things, like the new grill, hood mounts, greasing and CLEANING! Oh, and one full day spent with a buffer in my hand! Here are some before and after pics. before after
  13. th Thanks. I did find that the Autocar name was alive but they only make garbage trucks and a short look showed me they don't carry any parts for the old dinosaurs like mine. Volvo don't carry many either, so I've been trying to find parts sources.
  14. When did Volvo acquire Acar? What year did Volvo/White drop the Acar line?
  15. Yea, I posted them on here before and had it as my profile pic. It was stolen in Feb. and hasn't been recovered.
  16. Lancaster got their Titan and lowboy back because it had a GPS unit on it, but the loader is still MIA.
  17. Lancaster lost a couple, plus a loader. Tommy Ilsley lost one. yea, they're figuring it out, but it would be nice if the NYSP would have put out some bulletins or something.
  18. had to look..... just bought this one to replace my Mack
  19. The worst part is that the NY State Troopers know where they're going, where there leaving from and what countries they're going to, but can't find them..... WTF! They won't come out and call it a ring, but with so many trucks, of a certain manufacturer being stolen, what the hell else would it be called?
  20. There is a ring or something working in the Binghamton area that is targeting Mack trucks for theft and shipment over seas. Last month my dump truck was stolen, along with about 10 others, last week alone 7 more were taken from the Bainbridge area, about 30 miles north east of Binghamton. Just letting folks in NY know, disable your trucks or yours may be next.
  21. here's a good link with pictures. http://www.acofas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=234
  22. tried, pai doesn't carry them. they are an obsolete part. just more proof that volvo wants these old trucks off the road is what i think.
  23. I have the complete left side fairings from a 01 Vision with the 86" sleeper, also the aluminum 110gal fuel tank. Fairings were a test truck take off and are basicly brand new and the tank has no dents and has a shine to it. Asking $1500 and would trade for a eaton trans with a mack bell. 8LL ok, 13spd prefered. email wastenafarm@hotmail.com. pics soon.
  24. do you still have it? does it come with the bell and shifter? very interested...
