  1. Late Friday a mechanic who formerly worked at Nortrux ( Mack ) in Grande Prairie stopped by to have a look at our truck , He found a multi wire connector that couples the fire wall harness and the dash harness had signs of getting hot . His comment was that this plug that is located bend the VMAC display on the switch dash panel is notorious for failing and frankly completely unneccesary . He simply cut one set of wires at a time at the plug and spliced and shrink tubed them . He told me that this is a common problem with this series of truck and that he has repaired close to 30 or so trucks with this problem in the past 4 -5 years . Hope this helps anyone else with the same issues , .
  2. Thank you very much Mackpro68 ! You have been very helpful , I will check into this sometime later today .
  3. This past week I blew the water pump on our 2001 460 engine . Flushed the system out twice but there still is some residual grit in the coolant . The 427 engines have a coolant filter kit that can be added to the front of the coolant manifold but our dealer (Nortrux) tells me that it cannot be installed on the 460 . I picked up a Baldwin filter kit but I am wondering where the best place to mount it would be , I was told to tap into the bottom aluminum coolant pipe where there is a drain port and plumb the return coolant to the coolant manifold that runs along the heads . Thanks for your help .
  4. Started our 2001 CH 613 yesterday morning and had no gauages function in the instrument cluster other than the air guage which is mechanical also none of the icons that light up when turning the key to the ON position do not light up . The truck starts fine . Called our Mack dealer in Grande Prairie they asked me to check the Ground relay which is the recangular one on the firewall and it seems fine , checked the fuses in the cab fuse and relay panel and they all checked out OK . Pulled the plug off and on the instrumentation cluster and still no luck . Has anyone else out there had this issue ? One other thing , the orange rocker swith for diagnostics for the ABS next to the port for plugging the computer for analysing the unit is not lit when the truck is running . Normally it is lit when the truck is running . Thanks !
  5. The best thing we did on our E7 460 was change the starter over to the Mitsubushi gear reduction drive starter. Less than half the size WAY easier to install and very reliable so far . Would never go back to the old style Delco starter . Only issue it sounds like an old style Dodge pickup when cranking over .
  6. Had to change the camshaft on our E-7 460 due to wear on a couple of lobes . The unit pumps were removed to allow removal of the camshaft . My understanding was that when the fuel lines are removed they are to be replaced with NEW lines and the old ones discarded .The shop foreman tells me that the old lines can be reused yet another Mack dealer in Edmonton told me that the lines are to be one time use only due to the 20,000 psi that the fuel system runs at . After bringing our truck home I found fuel sweating on the 4 lines that were reused and the 2 new ones installed have no issues . What is your opinion and what is the correct procedure in this situation ? I think I'll be arguing this issue for sometime with the dealership that done the work and hopefully get this fixed properly. Thanks .
  7. Thanks for the comments I dcided to get them to install a Duralite core and be done with it . Hopefully one less thing to worry about for the next number of years . Had a Rad shop in Grande Prairie patch an air - air core on a Duramax a couple of years back with a special epoxy . The rad man said he had good luck on pick-up cores but would not attempt repairing a heavy truck core due to vibration and especially if used in an off road situation .
  8. Have a CH 613 in the shop for engine work . Asked to have the air to air system pressure tested . Tested at an 8 psi drop in pressure in 15 seconds at initial 30 PSI charge . Specs call for a 5 PSI drop in 15 sec . Shop foreman said leave it till it gets worse ,at least 15 psi loss . What are your thoughts, leave it alone or change it to a Duralite core ? Would certainly appreciate your comments . Thanks !
