    I'm curious, haven't got around to asking my dealer, but can you buy the mack gold engine paint? The oldsmobile gold looks close. I'm leaning toward Red, also for the bed. Then painting out the spokes and rims the way they should be, black spoke & grey or white rims. Not that it really matters but my CH and lowboy are red with white buds.

    Question, I'm making plans to paint the 79 RD685 I just purchased. I know it is a gold bulldog truck so my question is, in 79 what all was gold? As far as I can tell, the dog and the bottom part of the atenna base. I have seen picutres of some with gold around the headlights, is this accurate? Also, would appreciate any ideas/pictures or input on paint. It was originally white, so I'm thinking either white or red?

    The majority of my problems came from a bad rheostat for dash lights, bad 3 position light switch, shorted out wiring and poor patch jobs under the hood. Replaced the switches and rebuilt the wiring from firewall out and all seems well! Luckly all the wiring in the dash is still in very good original condition.

    FYI: To any future electrical problem solvers. This download does give insight to the basic schematics of the electrical system, but things such as the electrical block panels or junction panel descriptions do not match up to my 1979 RD. The page is dated 1983, so I guess things changed. None the less, I got it figured out.

    lol.....I've got to admit guys, I was feeling somewhat proud of that little gadget. After driving around town for a couple hours hitting the parts stores and everyone looking at me like I was crazy. I ended up at Tractor supply, love that place. And the rest is history.... Ron and Robert, I really appricate your help and support on this project! Hope I can return the favor one day! Chris

    Hello men, I finally got around to this job today. Someone please tell me how I'm supposed to remove this plug to replace the o ring. Is there a special tool? I've tried several things and I can't budge it. Here's a pick of the leaky one and a new one I picked up just in case I needed it. It's about two inches wide.

    Thanks a million! I've already bought a couple new switches that are bad, but looks like I'm going to have to re-do some half arse patch jobs to the wiring too. Got plenty of solder and heat shrink left over from rewiring my lowboy not to long ago. I can't stand having electrical problems due to patch jobs. Honestly, I cant stand anything not to work like it should. Anyone got a wire diagram for 1979 RD685S, just in case?

    So with the switch on PARK LPS I should have the middle top three on cab along with side marker lights and tail lamps? And of course all mentioned with swithc to LIGHTS? CL LPS are cab top two outside lights only.

    Excuse my ignorance, but do all the clearance lamps on top of the cab light up with switch on. And the park lamps are just the side marker lights and tail lights? When not much is lighting up its hard to tell.

    Thank you sir! The parts man did give me the gaskets and o rings. He didn't have much to say though, it just showed them on his parts diagram when I ask for them.

    Good morning! Got a box of parts sitting in the floor and need some tips before I start. Got to repair a leaking coolant plug. To do so I've got to remove the oil cooler for the first time. I'm sure to run into some Texas tea, but what else should I expect and any tips would be highly appreciated.

    Fine example of an over educated idiot...I'm with everyone else, seems as if they are trying to sell clothes....geeez I've got to be honest, I'm always griping about most advertising ideas now days, not just mack. The classic Mack is what built the Mack name, stick with what works! Why re-invent the wheel.... EDIT: Ok, I said idiot, but what I really meant was idealist.....
