Jay Leno's Garage - The Greatest Vehicle Ever Made
67RModel replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
If you want a a real fuel can with a flexible funnel thingy in USA you have to opt for a type II style safety can pictured below. In my opinion the Jerry can is flawed design. They are top heavy and tip over in transport unless they are strapped down or setting in the proper bracket. In the USA it is typical to set things in the bed of a pickup truck and head down the road without restraints. A full Jerry can would be on its side in 10 seconds or less. I get it they most likely won’t spill if laid down but I wouldn’t want to do it on the regular or have to strap them down every time. The cylindrical cans pictured are next to impossible to have lay over in transit. Also, the Jerry can has the top handles parallel to the direction of pour. Horrible. Especially with the largest size. The top handle should be perpendicular to the direction of pour as pictured below. I’ve used both. I would not prefer to use jerry cans if I had other options. -

Jay Leno's Garage - The Greatest Vehicle Ever Made

Proper gas cans are still manufactured. Most consumers would consider spending $70-100 for a single gas can ludicrous. They would rather just buy the junk and complain about it.... Made in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Essentially unchanged for probably 80 years at this point: 5 Gal Red Steel Safety Can for Flammables | Funnel | Type I | UI50FS | Eagle With that said I own three Eagle cans like the one pictured below. They are not safety cans because they do not automatically close if it were to be dropped. However, they do prevent evaporative emissions because any time I open the vent or fill nozzle plug get a very noticeable pressure equalization. The cans I have don't release vapors when not being used and will last at least 2 or 3 more lifetimes. It literally can't be improved upon. I have never purchased a gas can in my life. The three I have came with the first house I bought. I will probably never buy another one. -
I seriously always wondered how the twin cities came to have such a large Somalian population. It certainly isn't the weather. Its hard to believe ethnic Somalians would naturally migrate to Minneapolis. Their country is literally on the Equator and your telling me Minneapolis feels like home for them?

Ray Sidella is one. He moved a truck for me back in 2022 from Delaware to Pittsburgh. At the time he made weekly trips to the Midwest back to East Coast. I don't know if he gets on here anymore but his user name is @mack mhe9. If you send him a PM he will gat an email notification. I think I still have his phone number written down somewhere. -

Has anyone ever seen he loadstars with the one man, center mounted cab for hauling long beams or pipe? There is a roof hatch to get in and out. I think IH made them before the loadstar but they are neat looking. Only ever saw one in real life. -

1992 Mack RD688S Manuals
67RModel replied to KP2's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
From what I've seen the owner's manuals was a generic book like what comes with a passenger vehicle. It was called "operators handbook" and just gave general information as to how to operate the various switches and things of that nature. It was not vehicle (serial / VIN #) specific. What you are a looking for are electrical shop manual items. I'm not sure if every truck built came with a shop manual. I think it depended on what the customer wanted and probably cost extra. A truck's shop manual was a binder that was labeled with the truck's serial/VIN and contained a variety of different system specific shop manuals based on the components included in the truck's build probably based on what the customer wanted. I've seen ones that were only one binder thick and others that were 3 binders worth of material. Buying any old shop manual or some type of generic "600 series" shop manual and expecting it to have a wiring diagram for a specific chassis is probably futile. -
No affiliation. Just passing along a pretty neat and tidy old R Model. One owner and 5,500 original miles. Frame rails and chassis look brand new underneath. Would make someone a real nice local work truck or a good starting point for a collector / hobby truck. 4VE6 275hp Maxidyne and 5 speed. 1988 Mack RD690S Cab and Chassis Online Government Auctions of Government Surplus | Municibid

Convert to spring brake chambers rear axles 55 LJSWX
67RModel replied to FBGNO's question in Mack Truck Q & A
I'll say that I tried to use "off the shelf" parts a couple years back to convert Rotochambers on a 1962 B81 to 30/30, 24/24, and even 20/24 chambers. Offset slack adjusters, rotating the spiders, didn't matter. I determined it to be impossible without a bunch of "design" and fabricating to relocate the chambers to a more inboard location on the axle housing. The only solution I determined would "easily" work was to obtain single acting, pull type, Haldex Maxibrake chambers ($$$$$$$$$$) and mount them to the frame on the opposite side of the slack adjuster as the Rotochamber and connect them to the slack adjusters with grade 80 chain. This would still require plenty of thinking, planning, and some fabrication to make happen but I figured was much less involved then trying to reposition 30/30 cans on an axle not originally set up as such. I never did undertake the project and have since sold the truck. Haldex | MAXIBRAKE® R-Series Pull Type Spring Brakes -

Read through this entire thread. It will explain it as well as the E7 LDA system. I went down this rabbit hole a few years back

1955 LTH , The adventurous sister .
67RModel replied to 1961H67's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
They are a gaited breed developed in the Confederate Southern US back in the days of slavery. They were developed for plantation owners to be able to cover long distances, relatively quickly, with a very smooth ride. They have a unique 4 beat "running walk" that is very smooth and easy to sit. It actually looks funny they way they move. -

Attention @mowerman. Not too far from Reno.....Would look real good next to your DM 🤣

I figured this one was worth of posting here due to its scarcity. Looks to be a near perfect all original example. Perfect double frame and overall preserved by the Nevada climate. Claims to have 38,000 original miles. It was probably a fire company or some government entity owned most of its life. Turbo 8V71 with a 15 speed. based on the door tag it looks like it was the 12th one made. Really nice Detroit powered 700 series R model IMO.... 1975 MACK FR700 Online Auction | Amargosa Valley, Nevada | AuctionTime

Well I know next to nothing about E9s. However, in E6 and E7 speak the M indicates the engine is a Maxidyne high torque rise version of the engine.

An ounce of gold has ballooned to $4,075. The same ounce of gold has risen in price by about 22% in just the last month and a half. That should tell you something.......

The Jewish population of NYC is reported to be approximately 1.25 million. The Muslim community is reported to be about 900,000. So roughly only 300,000 "Jewish votes" "matter". The other 7,300,000 people in NYC probably don't care about a land border dispute 5,500 miles away as it pertains to who their city mayor is. My guess is they are probably more concerned about social, political, and economic issues within NYC and align more so with Mamdani on those things than any other candidate. an·ti-Sem·ite /ˌan(t)ēˈseˌmīt,ˌanˌtīˈseˌmīt/ noun noun: antisemite a person who is hostile to or prejudiced against Jewish people. OPINION: I haven't been watching Mumdani's every word and action. With that said I haven't seen or heard of him being hostile or prejudiced toward Jewish people. I don't think being pro Palestinian automatically makes one an antisemite. I think it is possible to be critical of the Israeli government and not be an antisemite. Mumdani said yesterday: “Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities”

What have you been looking at? 😁. Your in New England. Just about any vocational Mack older than 2007 (maybe newer) will have those axles under it. There has to be a litany of of those trucks still running around up there. You asking about an axle and carrier design with at least an 80 year legacy and have been essentially unchanged over that timeframe. Of course there are pros and cons when comparing them to other axles, however, generally speaking they are probably some of the most robust axles available without getting into specialty stuff. Of course this is a Mack forum so the information may be biased but I have never known anyone to dislike that setup for heavy duty work.....

Honestly something like that because of the condition, essentially no miles/use, and scarcity would probably bring "big money" here in the states for someone's collection that has deep pockets. The guy who is the high bidder will be motivated because it is essentially a "new truck" and will say to himself "where would you find another like it?". Hard to say what it would bring but my guess is if properly advertised through a reputable auction house that deals in antique vehicles and has all the documentation with it maybe $15,000 - 20,000. A run of the mill Astro that has been well used but is still in presentable condition mechanically and cosmetically would probably sell for anywhere between $4,000 - 10,000 depending. Too many variables to say. I will note the Detroit probably makes it more desirable. The 2 stokes have made a resurgence in popularity here I think just because of the sound they have and the "cool factor" of there not being anything like that made anymore.
