  1. a big importance with prefilling is the method used. have seen filters filled with the hose/nozzle from fleet fuel truck or storage tank etc-- definite NO NO. more dirt , sh-t falls in. prefill with a clean fuel only container.
  2. no disagreement the prices are bad, the aggravating issue is there is no reason for it other then corporate greed. at the expense of many the bonus check for CEO of pfizer is $$$$. same with the oil co's. things are done today same as yrs back. the stock market crash of '29 was intentional. how the rich made themselves richer; make the poor people poorer. i don't do the political crap; can't stand the present day clown in DC, sad part is he's only a puppet . john kennedy tried to do things his way; we all know how that turned out.

  6. Bob did you ever finish the model? want to sell it. i have 3 DM 800's on the bench being built. one stretched for a 4th axle . bought a 359 pete model for the twin turbo cummins going into the 800.
  7. not too technical- fortunate to have been raised in farm country. it;s broke learn how to fix it. started part-time at mack trucks 3/69, didn't grad HS till 6/69. grad friday night started full time mack following monday. at the "height" of my profession i was working 364 days a yr(never worked Easter Sunday out of respect to my Father). 7 days a week , short day was 24hr long no sleep. 44hrs once.did that schedule for 10=15 yrs. paid a hell of a price health wise. and i was a rotten excuse of a husband and father.to Two wonderful people =work always came first. so the mechohaulic came to be.

  10. never had much luck with the belt wrenches . had both. belts seem to slip more . your text was perfectly clear .didn't know they were that wide.
  11. i had a 3/8 round bar that had one end pointed like a spear. couple different lengths. drain pail under filter would punch a hole in filter bottom. results a clean controled drain of the filter. a filter that just wouldn't remove i;ve pierced a large screw driver through the side ( another reason for drain hole in bottom) for removal leverage. there have been a few that " who the h-LL tighten this " . no reason that tight.
  12. large spin on filters i had wide band filter wrenches set up for 1/2 in dr ratchets . as with EVERYTHING in the world of mechanics;;;; common sense factor plays a huge roll. certain applications your can't get the leverage needed to hand tighten. using a HD band filter wrench helps,. as earlier stated getting the wrench right close to base(threaded end) , NOT to put 500 lbs torque, tight enough not to loosen and leak. the large strap wrenches have a tendency to bend the filter. through the yrs my paycheck went for tools and toys. if a tool was made i had it,
  13. for HD construction the B81 is the best. for HD / road work the B73/75 series is tops. when Doug Allen and I finally talked waterbury mack into up dating the ole '57 Diamond T wrecker . a B75 was unit of choice . Sillaman traded in a fleet of them to bridgeport location. Doug and i went down picked the one WE wanted!LOL ,, no way said boss. we ended up with a B61 with unishift.

  15. "eye ball on cab mounts " might be front mounts . don't know if this unit has been running with air built up . hood was changed possibly the rear cab air bag (if there is one) was never hooked up . a deflated air bag could look like a cab mount.
  16. far out thought , by chance is that an air ride cab and bag is not filling. that would give extended space.

  18. those parts are way beyond breathless. i've been staring at the pictures so long my wife walked by twice , asked what's so interesting? i just replied " go back to the TV, no food or jewerly pictures here" LOL
  19. as a suggestion , if the filter(s) are over tight what ever you are using for removal ;; large pliers or proper filter wrench the closer you get to the base less chance of crushing. install without proper wrench ; i've used piece of scotch-brite or folded sandpaper they give a little bit better grip when tightening by hand.
  20. there never was a '70's gas shortage . like everything in this country and as other post have said=== it's made up for power and greed. i worked for owner operators hauling gas, there was so much gas the storage tanks (new haven/ bridgeport CT) were full , barges loaded with petrol were in the harbor with no place to unload. one way to hold storage was == the tankers were riding up and down the highways going no where. one benifit for me working for OO's was i had a 1000 gal tank buried on the farm full of gas.same with the "coin shortage" . there is none . talked with bank teller, asked why. she said there is no coin shortage,,, the FEDERAL GOVT is doing it. DON'T trade in any gold or silver.
  21. the suggesting of seal puller doesn't pertain just to this particular project. every job is different . having ability to clean before disassembly helps. also i'm relating to the days when there were gaskets not o-rings. pullimg covers and scraping gaskets had chance of gasket paper falling in the bearing. installing a new seal in the input housing is not easy with shaft sticking out either. time savings with a puller . a truck dead lined due to as-ole D O T inspector " that's a bad oil leak " fix it or tow it. seal puller saved me alot of time
  22. ideas are based on the R/ R trans. have seen the plunger nut back off not allowing a complete syncro shift. post was 3hrs ago; Dave G still around, could answer some questions such as + does the shift grind== is there an air leak in either range etc
  23. not familiar with an '06, as a thought; if it were a bad synchro would there not be a grinding rough shift. air cyl having a crack on plunger ? which side gets more air- low or high to make a shift?

Is this why the (cash) registers have pictures on them . for the counter typist = EXCELLENT title also. have a better chance of knowing what item is being discussed. i 've noticed when a fruit or veg is bought without a bar code many of the typist have difficulty matching the product to the little pictures.
  25. projects such as yours is why i invested in a few different size seal pullers. with a seal puller no need to remove entire cover with chance of dirt/grit going into bearing. in todays world not many have an opportunity to use a steam/pressure washer .side cover looks rusted out alot possible pin holes
