  1. Understood. Will be giving them a call. Thanks.
  2. That is exactly what the guy at the spring shop said. Probably the smartest move... but i' am stubborn and am going to try and fix it first. If i go this route i will roll a set of 46k or 52k camelback under there. I already measured it will go right in.
  3. 350hp...and a jake brake... hmm maybe i should keep my eye out for one of those 3306s, because if this thing ever gives up it is going to be pricey. here is a pic of the beast.
  4. Thanks, i have used them in the past. They rebushed my RD and Louisville ford. Excellent work and a quick turnaround. I think the problem with using a spring shop for something like this is that they like to go in and torch everything out and replace. It makes for a faster and easier job and works ok on Mack and Hendrickson. But these Rockwell parts prices are ridiculous. Each torque rod is held in by a tapered pin. pins are 300-500 dollars each. The parts estimate was 5200. I' am going to see if i can take this apart carefully and reuse as much as possible. I know its going to be a BIG PIA but i like it better than the alternative.
  5. I've always wondered why they could have an electronic 454 based on that same pump. But only a 350 Mechanical. I' am guessing emmissions might be the answer. i kinda recall that that is what killed the early e7-400. Anyway how hard would it be to build a 454 mechanical from 350?
  6. A little update here. Almost done need to finish details( tarp, lettering, etc) and one big project... the suspension. it is walking pretty bad. I took it to a spring shop recommended by a couple friends And they gave me an estimate of $9000 to rebush. I going to do it myself. If anyone knows of reasonable parts source for these i would be happy to hear about it. i could also use a parts breakdown/ literature as the local brockway dealer isn't too helpful. rears are sudd.
  7. Haven't had the pleasure of adjusting the valves yet, but i did have the 1674 powered Brockway out today. Only had four ton of coal (hope that will last till spring) on. It sure ain't big power but i guess it will get the job done. i thought i took an engine pic when i had the fenders swung out but i can't find it.
  8. cat made some other v8 truck engines before the eighties. the 1676 comes to mind. there was also the 1140, 1150, 1160 medium duty engines which are related to the 3208.
  9. D379 is a v8. When i was a kid i hauled one genset on a c60 chevy rollback... it didn't want it
  10. Curious, Did you ever get this sorted out? Was the timing ok?
  11. round or square? gallons? not that i have any at the moment. But they do come around and it would help everyone to know.
  12. Don't want to overstate the obvious, but on a Mack the ignition switch has nothing to do with whether it will run or not. If you have an engine with any doubts as to the effectiveness of the fuel cutoff. i would disconnect the fuel line before cranking.
  13. Interesting, according to the Bridgestone book i was using 9 inch is the rim for 12r24.5. I also checked the Continental book it says 8.25 or 9. The note in the Continental book says about derating 315s when used on 8.25s but nothing specifically about 12R24.5 so i guess I'll be ok.continental_hsc.pdf
  14. Now for the next problem where can i find 9 inch wide 24.5 rims. Accuride doesn't have them in there catalog and the guy at the tire shop says there is no such thing.
  15. I decided to catch up with the times and switch to 11r24.5s on the drives. I didn't realize how hard to come by 22s are. My brother thought he had some and i went and looked he had 2 45 foot trailers full of tube type tires and no decent 22s. Called a local tire shop(STTC) guy said he hadn't sold any in years but i could run 10.00x22 next to 11r24.5s. They look like different heights to me (both tires in the pic are new retreads). Anyway if anyone is interested i now have some 10.00X22 bias tires on rims for sale. They are all retreads. Two are new, four are decent. and the last two you don't have to take if you don't want them (ok casings). I think five hundred for the set would be reasonable.
  16. I agree, 11r24.5 on the front of a triaxle is a bad idea. I was quoted a good price on some Chinese ( windpower/ aeoleus ) 12Rs. They look like a strait up knock off of the Bridgestones i have and they are load range J (8270lbs. single) which is better than anything else i have found( all the big names are H rated about 7800lbs) But i just don't know if i can get over where they come from when all i seam t do these days is bitch about chinese crap/quality.
  17. I have wedge brakes on the front. I have six decent 10.00x22 bias tires on the drives now. I have four new recap 11r24.5 and one new virgin 10.00r22 in the shed. I think the smart move might be to buy four more 24.5s just because it will be impossible to find road service for the 22s.
  18. Looking for some good 10.00r22 drive tires for the brockway Called the tire guy i use and he didn't have any new ones. I only need one or two but i would definitely be interested in more . I could also use some 12r24.5s for the steer axle. i' am located near Reading PA.
  19. Went to the junkyard monday and found a busted up mr being scrapped i took out the whole gauge panel. Some of the gauges say US gauge and some teleflex they match pretty good except for the black rings but i know i can put chrome covers on. installed the gauges today and everything works fine except fuel it reads full when i know its empty. By the way, i thought the original brockway gauges looked familiar i went and looked at my old 79 w900 kw and i couldn't tell them apart
  20. Would this pickup be used for hauling or for a toy? If i was doing it I would use a dt466 and an allison. They are plentiful and relatively cheap in junk yards ( think school bus) You could probably use the whole drive line and get your weight down pretty good. You would also would have more modern gear ratios, disk brakes, budd wheels, etc.
  21. My old e7 350 would boost 37psi at full power but i had the pump tweaked a little by a shop.
  22. Johnny bar? Never heard of that one before. must be a regional thing. around here( PA) we call it the trolley valve or the spike. now olde time dozers have a johnson bar to control the blade.
  23. Yeah, i plan going to check a junkyard this weekend. no brockways but i'am hoping i can find something.
