  1. a few years ago i saw a cab over with retractable staircase, similar to the kenworth ace system: the difference being it came out and a handrail folded up, and it looked just like a staircase on the side of the truck. climb the stairs to a landing and get in the truck. it opened with a remote. also opened the truck door. then in cab, you pushed a button and the stairs retracted into the truck and the door closed. i want to say it was on a MAN or or Scania.
  2. i unfortunately lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident a few years ago about 1 mile offshore in the atlantic ocean
  3. yup b81 mack 6 cylinder. b813 cummins engine. b815 mack V8 i don't remember what the designation is for a detroit engine
  4. it was a sweet ride compared to the 237. i put close to 750,000 miles on it in the 10 years i ran it. still ran good to when it got wrecked. only thing it needed in those 10 years was a water pump, 2 sets of brakes, and the trans was giving me issues. the new trans was in it for under 1000 miles when it got wrecked and split the trans case in half. also ruined the block on impact when it drove the water pump into #1 cylinder.
  5. very cool video Onyx. thanks for posting it! 👍
  6. yea buddy. needed all 20 gears, plus another 20 to go up good size hills.😁 actually it was not that bad due to the very low gearing. truck had a top speed of 42 MPH. so i usually skip shifted on flats and only used full gear pattern on hills at low speed. when he sold that truck we replaced it with a 74 DM800 dump truck that tipped over and tweaked the frame when a hinge pin came out while dumping. we fixed it, but it would not dump straight so we pulled the box off and put a 75 ton fifth wheel on it. 237 with twin stick 5 speed. that one had a top speed of 54 MPH. i ran that until i left in 95. the new company bought me an almost new 94 RD688with 400 and 13 speed. ran that one for ten years until a guy took it out in 05 and dead center sucker punched a 4 foot diameter oak tree and pushed the engine back 4 foot. we figured he was doing at least 50 in a 25 zone when he left the road. they replaced that one with a 2005 CV613 Granite with detuned 400 and 8ll. total piece of junk because they would not turn it up. i left them in 2010 when i saw the writing on the wall they were going down due to federal charges.
  7. i fondly remember trying to start off on a grade at 214,000 lbs in the B-815. 325 hp V8 and quad box. you needed 3 feet and 4 hands to take off and shift to get going. when the trans finally died with the owners son driving it, they installed a spare that was in the shed with short sticks to keep crap out of the trans. the knobs were only 3 inches off the towers, so i was able to shift it one handed after convincing them to leave them in instead of putting the big sticks in. since we were the only two that drove the truck, the mechanic agreed to leave the short sticks in it. that ALMOST made that truck a pleasure to drive. .
  8. there is no comparison between the allison trans and the auto shift or the ultra shift transmissions. auto shift and ultra shift are manual trans with automatic clutch assemblies. allison trans if a fully automatic trans just like a car or pickup has. they have a torque converter bolted to the flywheel instead of a clutch.
  9. same here. i did not want it, but was forced into it because we sold my T-800. one thing i do not like about the automatic is you have to pay attention and make sure you hold your foot on the brakes at a stop light otherwise you will run into the car in front of you. no more kicking it into neutral and sitting there when on flat road. i have not hit anyone yet, but came real close a couple times when it was new.
  10. eaton ultrashift is a manual trans with an automatic clutch. step on throttle releases clutch. step on brake applies clutch. allison trans is just like a car trans, except the torque converter locks solid around 10 mph. my 2020 kenworth 565 hp X15 cummins with 6 speed allison with engine rake on high will downshift just as good if not better than the C13 cat with eaton 8ll trans. loaded at 80k lbs i can go from 65 to 10 mph just faster than the older manual trans truck, and only need the brakes under 10-15 mph. my truck has 63,000 miles on it and it has only had 3 brake adjustments because i do not need to use the brakes. and as Joey said, 99% of fault for these accidents is due to excessive speed and driver inattention.
  11. same here in jersey. not me. i hate the heat. over 80 i can't breathe. bossman is constantly telling me to put a coat on because i will be out doing something in a short sleeve t-shirt at 40 degrees. the cold don't bother me. it is the wind when it is cold that gets to me.
  12. i always had the same luck. nope, i aint gonna buy any. the next person would hit big time. that was the main reason for stopping.
  13. i played nj lottery for 37 years. my badge number, and my birth date never once came out, straight or boxed. the day i stopped playing my badge number came out. 🙄 my birth date has never came out. i have hit on scratch offs for a few grand. but no where what i spent over the years. it is probably 10 years now since i bought a scratch off.
  14. not to worry Vlad. we live here and do not understand the politics either. other than all politicians suck, and will screw you every chance they got.
  15. is this yard still active, or is it all locked up? i wonder if it is a bankruptcy, or government impound thing? a friend lost his brand new two week old peterbilt back in the 80's when red ball express went under. the feds locked and sealed the terminal and refused anyone entry for close to two years. the fact he owned it and was parking there as a contract driver did not matter. it was in the terminal, and became government property.
  16. central new jersey: friday was 75 degrees. this morning it is 24 degrees with a chance of snow and the roofers are discussing starting a fire on the roof to keep warm. 😁 of course they could not be here friday because of rain.
  17. never happen. demonrats don't give a rats rearend about Americans.
  18. Same here. I went through all of onyx posts and no mention of shop talk thread. But here it is. Must have been abducted by aliens, and then returned.
  19. demonrats have historically been racist. going back to the 1800's. but they love to blame others for their sins. look at the Trump witch hunt. every single thing he was blamed for was in fact done by a demonrat, not him.
  20. I wish I still had 1/4 of the hot cars I had back in the good old days. 62 409 4 speed impala ss 65 427 4 speed impala ss 66 chevelle ss 250 six 4 speed this one was my race car. I had 4 grand in the engine and ran consistent 12.4 quarter mile 66 hemi 4 speed gtx 67 350/375 hp impala police interceptor 67 fury hemi interceptor 68 442 convertible 68 396/375hp 4 speed camaro ss/rs 69 396/375 hp 4 speed chevelle ss 69 nova 250 six 4 speed 69 mustang grande coupe 351C c6 I will say though, I made big money on every one of them, but nowhere what they are worth today.
  21. I will have to post a picture of my 66 7 litre 4 speed convertible.. If I can remember.
