  2. Im not big in the patience department either I do some and walk away then come back later and do a little more.
  3. I took these off a mack front 18000 pound 1977 RS axle I went with hub piloted wheels on the front I really don't know what their worth make me an offer if you need them I can put them on a pallet and ship them if need be.
  4. Who knows somewhere down the line I may drop a V8 into it I like to work on trucks when I get it to my liking I always go one step further guess Im just bored I always did that with my military trucks. As stated before it always depends on the amount of money I have at the time to limit my work on my trucks I spoke to a friend about maybe buying a used V8 this summer he says they are to expensive to buy as take outs I will have to buy a running truck and part it which is out of the question I will not ruin one truck to upgrade another unless I can find a wrecked parts truck somewhere.
  5. Thanks its been a learning experience lots of buffer time getting the haze off the aluminum the aluminum wheels came off a redi mix truck and were covered with concrete lots of CLR and steel wool work before buffing them.
  6. Ever since I was a high school kid I have always liked the long hood R models.
  7. Its kind of growing on me having the rears stock I wont have the money to even think of changing them out for a while anyways.
  8. No they are five foot pipes I wanted to keep them the stock height above the cab.
  9. Best you can do is walk away far away from that until it either grenades or locks up.
  10. Thanks guys its a real pleasure to tool around town in cant wait until next summer.
  11. This is what happens when a 3800 horsepower engine starts to run on its own crankcase oil and no way to shut it down it will run way over its governed 950 RPM until the weakest link lets go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvMl8LUzQnk
  12. It was a nice day so I put the final touches on my truck I bought this fall Im sure the purists will take a dim view of it but I think it shined up pretty nice I need to put the new gold dog on the hood but since the grille is bolted to the hood its not going to be an easy task. I will still search for a set of budds hubs for the rear but its parade ready for next spring I have to drive out to north Carolina for the cargo bed that will be set on the back unless any of you guys who drive OTR need a back haul from NC to the Chicago area I will be more than happy to pay for delivery. I did get the trucks history from the mack museum turns out this truck was the seventh truck built for an order of ten for plains transport in Kansas july of 74 they didn't keep it long or they never took delivery of it as roger hannenkratt bought it in 1975 and his name is engraved in the center cap of the steering wheel.
  13. I loaded a lot of nelson trucks this summer I recall a six wheeler coming in but I don't think it was a DM I saw the old Harry Kuhn DM the wheaton sanitary district used to own sold on gov deals not long ago that was a nice truck someone got a good deal on that when they bought it..
  14. A friend of mine had that happen with a cat engine said all he could do is get out of the way and let her go it did the same thing no way of shutting it down.
  15. I think the VIN plates are just screwed to the doors too.
  16. Joes been driving the red RD for quite a while I loaded his truck for years before I switched jobs I believe his truck is #1.
  17. Yes and in California they use a lot of them for that the bid is over 5K right now for it.
  18. Check out the state of preservation this old beauty is in the FD just retired her after buying it new in 48 its up for internet auction in California that old stove bolt six is about as clean as ones ever going to see in its original condition probably comes with the original title too.
  19. Anyone know what ever happened to Ronny Edwards superliner last I saw it the truck was sitting in a yard on 23 just outside Marengo across from the paver brick plant. I remember in the spring of 1980 when he rolled into road materials in Dundee with it he used to park there someone told me he died a ways back the truck does not sit where it was the last time I saw it. I remember it had a 350 in it he used to really roll with that thing I believe he was number one on the list at road materials he went by the name of tracker on the CB.
  20. Its no wonder chinas economy has eclipsed ours we as americans cant find products made here anymore I usually suck it up and buy the expensive American made products. I was always taught you get what you pay for and its so true you can still find good American made tools at auctions but lots of people know that now and buy them all up and sell them in such places as ebay and craigslist.
  21. Christensen still has an old superliner sitting in the yard white with flames painted down the hood I know Joe brown used to drive it but I have not seen it out in quite a while.
