  1. Your right Jim was a character but you always knew where you stood with him that's why I liked him the last project I worked on with him is where the walmart is in hanover park on 19 and barrington road. I knew he had passed a way but didn't know when we used greers trucks too when we needed trucks to haul sludge then after Tiny died Carl Christensen was dispatching them for Tinys wife and we were using them to haul lime for us until they gave it up.
  2. Friend of mine told me there is an old B model Celli wrecker been parked on Mannheim road for years never moved.
  3. I took the hood of the RS yesterday for paint work I also drilled out the rubber inserts holding the grille to the hood so I could do a thorough job of sanding. Question is I see Watts sells the rubber inserts for holding the superliner grille to the hood are they the same as the ones holding the grilles to the western R model hood? Last question has anyone taken out the eight carriage bolts holding the hood to the hinge I cut them off flush with the fiberglass and they will not budge even with a hammer and punch. I don't know for sure but I believe there is a metal plate inside the fiberglass they go thru they may be rusted tight to.
  4. Greers were a real pair nice guys but they would steal the shirt off your back if they could figure a way to do it without getting caught I think they got kicked out of Meyers for missing gravel loads some of those loads ended up in Eddie Beltz' yard. I used to work with a Jim Dhamer back in the late 80s when I was in between jobs working for Jeff Riemer he was a real character great guy I got along with him pretty well. I got into it with him the day before I quit Jeff I had already gotten the job with clear water farms he felt bad thinking I quit because of our little disagreement I assured him it wasn't the case we were friends until we went our separate ways he ended up being the mayor of Huntley.
  5. That looks like Ron Greers old 73 R dog his brother and him both had semi tractors made into six wheelers.
  6. Best way to find the hubs is to disassemble one hub and get the bearing numbers then go to the gunite website and go to their wheel crossover page they will give you the size bearing cone inner and outer and race size then go from there mine took HF-819s.
  7. Im kind of partial to military truck rat rods myself.
  8. Phantom 309 was sung by Red Sovine back when country music was real country music not country rock like it is now.
  9. Man I could load this thread up with pics from loading trucks all day in the yard been on the backhoe for the last two weeks still lots of old dogs dumping concrete in the yard for me to break up. Going back on the road Tuesday in an RD pulling a dump trailer for a while it will be a welcome change of scenery for the summer.
  10. I built a heavy diamond plate rear step bumper that should tame it down a bit Im probably going to lower the air pressure in the rear tires some too.
  11. Got busy today made a rear step bumper and filler panel for the cargo bed all 1/4 inch diamond plate all torch cut then welded together I got all the pieces cut yesterday after work. I got lucky the scrap buyer down the road had several eight foot long by 24 inches wide pieces charged me sixty bucks which is a really good price I have been pricing new and wasn't to happy with the idea of having to spend that much and I have no problem wire wheeling the rust off to save some cash. I am going to make the brackets that bolt to the frame tomorrow after work this will bolt to them so I can easily remove it if needed I will rhino line the step and paint the rest red like the truck all that's left to do on this is run a weld bead along where the step joins the filler panel and weld on the top strip and cut off the excess on the side strips.
  12. Used to drive through there all the time ran 34 all the way to Ottumwa to get out to my property before they turned it all to four lane.
  13. Oil cooler is what I was thinking had one go out in a 250 cummins dumped engine oil into the cooling system ran a bit warmer than usual but never overheated.
  14. We get aluminum diamond plate half fenders for our trucks at work mechanic says they get them pretty cheap don't know where though.
  15. Could have had a real nice mack M54 from a central Illinois fire dept. last year really nice paint well kept for less than the asking price of that one. The data plate states its a mack but it does not look like the right air cleaner for the mack there is a difference between the mack and multi air cleaner and if it really has a mack engine its not a multi fuel.
  16. He went to NAPA yesterday the kid who mixes the paint in a wiz at it he matched the color dead on its the earlier robins egg blue not the olive drab he put a sample on the piece he brought in and you couldn't tell the difference.
  17. I drove a 71 RS700L that had an olive drab interior and steering wheel.
  18. Shipping is the deal killer I would be right on that if it didn't cost almost double the purchase price to get it here but I would go in with some one to buy it I need the cab and could use a spare hood.
  19. Got the bed on the truck needs mud flaps and the rear bumper put on it looks to short like it is now.
  20. Our mechanic at work has a 69 R model he is doing a ground up restoration on it and now needs the paint code for the interior color he has most of his paint mixed at NAPA if anyone had their code it would really help.
  21. Got the diamond plate put on one side of the bed yesterday.
  22. I have to try to find a pair of reasonably priced horns now the one on the truck looks pretty shabby with the new lights there.
  23. And that's just a little guy on the trailer.
