  1. I thought you older guys had a few "tricks" to use for lowering your BP briefly to pass the DOT physical. Glad you passed. For now , I can't and it goes higher and higher as I sit there and try to "relax" to get under 140.
  2. I plow with with an old tractor also. I run a Ford 8n with a back blade to clear the lane (about 1/3 mi), and have another 8n with a loader for clean-up. They aren't the best suited for it (no live hyd, geared too high), but I have alot fun with those old machines. When we moved here last year, I went to purchase an L Kubota but chickened out due the price. Instead, I'll gradually spend the same amount of money on a fleet of antique equip. Next purchase will be a Case CK hoe, or one of the antique Deere crawlers. Attempted to upload photos, but can't get them to work.
  3. Here's a tractor similar to that Case, with the same "hydriv" pump system and hand valve control. This one has a foot petal that applies a brake, and springs the hydro valve back to center. Case sold off their garden tractor business to Ingersoll in the 80's. Thats my (almost) 4yr old girl driving. It took her a few tries to learn to operate the valve smoothly, but she's got the hang of it now. I let her drive it around on the flat part of our property (closely supervised), but it will be a few years before I let her mow.

Too bad Clint Eastwood didn't run for president. He'd have my vote.

Rowdy- Well stated. I hadn't considered the flag itself was that person's (protestor's) private property.

One way to end flag burnings would be for law enforcement to simply walk away and go to lunch. Surely there would be a few patriots nearby that will put a stop to it, and teach the protestors a lesson. I know, not very practical today since everyone has a camera phone.
  7. Lowering the corperate tax rate in the U.S. would remove much of the incentive for companies to "offshore" their profits. As for wealth inequality - What's not fair is that %50 of the population in the US don't pay taxes (net), while soaking up various forms of taxpayer handouts.
  8. Make sure the body is solid, and not a Bondo-Buggy with a nice looking coat of paint. Ditto with what MHE9 says. look at the frame all around, paying close attention to where the shackles mount at the rear. CJ frames are boxed, so mud and dirt collects inside and promotes corrosion. The light duty 4 and 5 speeds tend to jump out of gear when worn out. Test each gear, both under acceleration, and downshifting/ compression braking to see if the transmission holds. The 258 I-6 is a solid, reliable engine. Northeast winters were rough on old Jeeps, hopefully you do better finding a solid one down there! Good luck
  9. You may want to check that the transmission case is properly vented if fluid is leaking. Some trucks are equipped with a water fording kit that pressurizes the trans and gear cases with a pound or so of air. If it remains switched on, you will likely have fluid leaks. Make sure the trans isn't way over filled (had one come out of service this way) I know little about these transmissions, good luck on the repair.
  10. Nice truck! We have an 89 C60 stake body / lift gate for our HVAC business. My dad bought it new, and I learned to drive a manual trans on it at 16. I'm 40 now, and the truck has only 50k on it. Stays in the garage its whole life, and the PA winters haven't turned it into a rust bucket. I guess its old enough to be considered a "cool old truck". 366 Gas / 4speed / 4.88 Gears (no 2 speed rear, but needs one badly) Guess we need to start a C-60 photo thread.
  11. Farmer52- Take a look at Central Penn auto auction in Lock Haven PA. They have Verizon equip auctions once a month or so. You can prob pick one up for less than 2000.
  12. I was thinking about using that trip washer/ air switch, adding a valve and relay to build an air curcuit that would disengage the front axle when the truck is shifted into reverse while in low range. I know better, but my trucks may be used by someone unfamiliar with them on the trail. Last time out, my Allison skipped a beat and slipped just a little between 2-3 upshifts. Maybe its time for a Fuller transmission.
  13. The reverse ratio on the Allison MT654 is 10.76 to 1. It's just too much for the transfer case when its in low, front drive engaged, and torque loaded. 1st gear is only 4.71 to 1
  14. Thanks for flipping the pics. Couldn't get them to upload correctly from the I phone. No major repairs - yet... But I do have a transfer case to rebuild on one of them. I'm planning on streching the cab for room for a back seat at some point. A manual trans would be a nice improvement too, but I'm not sure if any twin-countershaft box would allow room for the front driveshaft to run beside it. I'm open to suggestions on a new paint scheme too.
