1970 Mack Clutch Questions
1958 F.W.D. replied to doubleclutchinweasel's topic in Engine and Transmission
Kent, earlier you identified the clutch make/model. When I called the guys in Baltimore, they knew right away what I was talking about. They specialize in older clutches, but then again double plate spicers are pretty common, so anyone should be able to do it.....They fully rebuilt my single plate 15" Lipe-Brown clutch- new pads, rebuilt the complete assembly, and even spun-balanced it all. Now if I can just remember who the heck the place is.....I have it written down somewhere.....somewhere......lol -
Does anyone have any good pix of Hayward F-Models?? Back when my father was an O/O leased onto Charles E. Danbury Inc. (trailer broker) he pulled mostly brand-new trailers out of the Trailmobile factory in Lansdale, Pa. (near Philly.) He had a Hayward F-Model with a 300, 5 speed and a single Rockwell drive axle. I did many miles in the right-hand seat of that truck in the summer time and on weekends. Then later on, he leased on with Harry J. Muschlegel onto Southwest Freight Lines. That single screw/5-speed tractor was great for empty trailers but eventually got too small for freight work, so Dad bought an Allentown F-Model with a 300+, an up-and-over 10-speed and twin screws. He worked very hard wade through the paperwork to obtain his own ICC operating authorities back when they de-regulated all that crap in the early 1980's. Thats when Harry Muschlegel asked him to come into the office "for a few weeks" to help him obtain operating authorities for the company he was forming- a little old outfit called JEVIC TRANSPORTATION. Dad's "few weeks" in the office turned into 20+ years driving a desk. Jevic finally went public with the stock, and that was the beginning of the end- Dad retired about 3 years before Yellow sold them out and they went tits-up. But enough with memory lane- Hayward F-Model pics anyone?????

1970 Mack Clutch Questions
1958 F.W.D. replied to doubleclutchinweasel's topic in Engine and Transmission
If yer gonna replace the throwout bearing, you may as well replace the clutch or have it rebuilt since you are pulling it anyways. I know it is a little far from you, but there is a fantastic clutch place in Baltimore that rebuilt the Lipe-Brown clutch on my 1958 FWD......It was only $400 bucks and they did a top-notch job, and the guys there are top shelf people too. I couldnt recommend them any more, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the place. IIRC someone on here pointed them out to me.....Does anyone else on here know of whom I speak of???? -
Does anyone know what the final count was, and who/what won the best of show award???

I'm gonna buy it and fix the cab so that it's not lopsided- look at the pictures, its all crooked -
Check out this thread: Tri-Axle comes down an 8% grade (1+ mile long) to a T-intersection, plows an SUV straight into a fire station, sets the fire station on fire (kills the driver of the SUV) destroys the fire station and the three firetrucks inside. Happened here about a month ago. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/25280-tri-axle-crash-with-ensuing-fire-destroys-firehouse-video-of-an-old-cf-doin-the-deed/page__fromsearch__1

Doug, how or with whom would I ask or suggest that the stone driveway (over by where the buses pick people up) get paved???? Every year all of us over there have the same complaint- anytime someone drives by (especially with a non-clutched fan) the dust gets unreal and gets all over our trucks. Is the park privately owned? Owned by Macungie?? Do you think ATCA would consider giving the town a donation to go towards paving? I cant imagine it would be all that expensive, the stone drive is only 100 yards long or less.....Maybe John Haines IV would even consider helping for a tax write-off.....just throwing out suggestions.......

Hey by the way, Vinny is a big boy....I was thinking pudgy little 12-year old....We better not pick on him or lopsided trucks too much, it wont be too long before he can kick our asses!!!!!!

Joes Mack, several builders have recently built pumper/tankers on Mack Granite chassis, I know for a fact that KME and Pierce have both done recent units. Also, consider contacting Toyne Fire Apparatus in Breda, Iowa. www.toyne.com if you want, I am very friendly with their national sales manager Mike Watts, who would be more than happy to talk to you or have the salesperson for your area talk to you. Toyne is relatively unknown outside of the mid-central USA, but have been recently breaking into the east. They built us a custom 1500GPM stainless steel CAFS pumper on a Spartan chassis back in 2007. They are great to deal with and think outside the box. Their staff is top-shelf and I could not reccomend them any more. Also, if you are buying a spec truck on a state program like COSTARS or whatever, you can customoize to a certain extent, however you might be limited to certain chassis builders.

Vinny, did you take a picture of the FWD? It looks like a U-Model if you close one eye.......

Fullfuel if you get there very early on Sunday you'll see some trucks, however the majority of the show leave saturday late afternoon & sat night. If you are coming far on Sunday, I would say stay at home & save the gas. (or fuel.)

You sure it doesnt say "Detroit Diesel" on the valve covers?

When you redeem your points, you are entitled up to 30 gallons. The gas gauge in the FWD is messed up, dammit, I knew I should have brought one of the 5-gallon cans with me. Oh well, 25 gallons at $1.96 aint bad. The baby seat is not O.E.M. And here is the latest addition to the crew- the littlest 1958 F.W.D. who just turned one year old a month ago. He's my little buddy, I have a feeling he's going to be daddy's little greasemonkey helper- his 8 and 7 year old brothers like the truck, but aren't "into" it. Not yet anyways. The big brothers will be at Macungie- I would bring all three but kinda hard fitting me, big brothers AND the baby seat in a "R" model international cab........

Taking the F.W.D. to Giant tonight to turn in the Giant gas points- have $1.40 off per gallon!!!!!

I am posting this asking for everyone's help, this will take you all of about 5 minutes. Sometime next week, the House of Representatives will be voting on an important bill which means a great deal to the residents and business owners whom reside on Hattaras and Ocracoke Islands (The Outer Bank) of North Carolina. For those of you who do not know, the National Park Service (in cooperation with the communist liberal puke scumbags of the National Audobon Society and the Southern Environmental Law Center) has done everything they can to block any and all access (vehicular or pedestrian) access to the beaches of Hattaras and Ocracoke. This includes Cape Hattaras also known as "The Point" (if you are an avid surf fisherman, you have been there or are aware of it......reputed to be the best surf fishing spot in the world...) They have done this all in the name of protecting a species of bird (The Piping Plover) which has been scientifically and biologetically proven to be flourishing, but they dont care, they want all access to the beaches closed down.....) These actions have devistated the local economy, because if people cannot go to the beaches, they dont want to go there.......For more info, contact me and I will provide a host of websites showing the actions of the greeny scumbags. I am asking that you guys all contact your Congressional Representative's Office as soon as possible, and ask that he/she vote affirmative/in favor of HR 4094 "The Cape Hattaras National Seashore and Recreational Area Preservation Act." Thank you for your time.
