  1. I hate to say it guys, but our B models of yesterday were in class by themselves. And the 100% Mack driveline was a selling point for sure. But today, as someone else said-thjey've been "Volvonized"-or words to that effect. My concern is some day the big cheeses in Sweden will say..."why do we need Mack? Its our engine? duplicated costs, blah blah".

Keep in mind, the customer base that saw the value of an integrated truck-engine, trans,axles_ is getting older (ugh!). And while no one has that same degree of integration today, they are working at it-at least as far as engines are concerned with F'liner having Detroit and Mercedes power, Paccar their own engines via their Euro connection and now even International with their own attempt at building big power.

As for the comments on today's "drivers", I say when I'm going down the road in my 56 year old B-61, some guys-young and old will blow horns, wave, thumbs up etc. Others go by and no recognition-I might as well be driving a Toyota corolla. The difference? As I see it, some guys have a passion for what they do-others drive a truck for a living and that is it-no passion for what they do.

  2. Thx guys for your comments. Truck had its 711 replaced with a 237 in '79 by the guy aI bought it from and he used it in his excavating business until I bought it. So the Duplex has done well. My biggest concern with the "L" version of a quad box is the strength of the aluminum case-which as with all aluminum components-it was chosen as a weight savings-at a very premium price- but was engineered to be as durable as the cast versions-I hope!

  3. yea that transmission will work and might get you 65mph as long as u baby it. if you hot rod it they will spin a single disk clutch and if you lug it too much in high gear you could break 5th gear and crack the case. seen a guy blow the whole back half of a triplex apart before behind a 237

I hear you on breaking it-but don't I run the same risk with a Diplex in the back section?

    And yes Jim-24" wheels.

  4. Anyone have an opinion on this transmission I think its a double OD quad box with an aluminum case. True?? If so, how do you think it would hold up behind a 237 Maxidyne? You may recall I've posted before about trying to solve my 6.67 CRD -62 problem as my direct Duplex gives me no road speed.

Instead of finding a gear set for the rear, I'm thinking the transmission swap is a better way to solve the problem.

    Appreciate any thoughts.

  5. All 72 series triplex and quadruplex compounds are overdrive.

    Triplex direct TRT72, single OD

    Quadruplex direct, TRQ72 single OD

    With overdrive main box,

    Triplex over TRT720, double OD

    Quadruplex over, TRQ720, double OD

The 2nd 2 in the number is variation in input shaft (spline size, single /double disc)

There is a duplex (TRDX72), 10 speed with only 7 progressive gears. Around here it was called a dead stick, that was a few years ago.

The transmission you need is a overdrive quad for the speeds you need, but not the best choice against a 237.

    FW

Hi Fifth Wheel. didyou make it to Hudson. Why don't you think a TRQ7220 is a good choice for a 237? Again, snowballs chance in hell I can find a higher gear set for a CRD-62. P & S had some and they sold them all to some guy from Canada.
  6. Hello everybody,

Yes, Al passed away on Monday. He fought a long, long battle with cancer and it finally took him from us. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him and that is a long list of people. He was a fantastic friend and employer and an amazing business man.

His business partner Bruce has commited to keeping Global Truck Traders open and growing and we are going forward with a lot of plans Al had for our shop and yard. We have an incredible staff in the shop and warehouse and we all have Al's memory in our hearts as we continue to do what we do best.

Please stop by and say hello, we'd like to see you.

    -Phil

Did not know he was ill. How old was he? In any case sorry to hear that. could luck to the rest of you. This will be the true test of the organization.

  7. Red Horse, didn't you have that truck at the the 2012 ATHS show in Springfield Mass? if so i think you were parked a row over from us with it

10-4- I had a conversation with you and Maddog. By the way-did you see "supershowrigs.com? Go to "ATHS National Show" then "pictures". You guys are on page 3-I'm on pg. 4.-fourth row. There are pix of trucks I never saw!~

GreenDash- thx-I've seen that before-but what is the double 'O" version Maddog references? TRQ 7220??

  8. double overdrive 18 speed quad with a double disk clutch would probably get you decent road speed since your runnin true 24'' rubber. even with that slow rear you might get 62-65 mph out of it. id stay away from a triplex as quads are more common for parts and with your 237 and rear you might not get a split low enough to use it off roadin or with some weight. Matt

Matt, 62/65 would be great-right now I'm at like 54. Plus its not just the top end. With a 237, I could also get "around town" at lower RPM's. That is take advantage of the Maxidyne concept and consistantly run in the lower RPM band. So a double OD is a TR?????

BillH- I hear you on the 5 spd 4.17. But part of the "attraction" of this old dude is that big rear double reduction rear with the torque rods. Don't want to lose that.

  9. My B has a 237 with a Duplex and 6.67 rear. I would like to change the rear ratio but good CRD-62's are like hen's teeth. So I'm thinking, easiest thing is to put an OD Triplex or Quad in it. Any opinions. A lot of experienced people tell me that the Duplex can't handle the torque of a Maxidyne and I do use the truck on occasion (35,000lbs and occasionally a bit more)

Added benefit of the trans. vs. a gear set change is I don't minimize the off road capability of the truck.

By the way, this truck was built as a B-60X, I believe original owner pulled the gas power train and put a 711/Duplex in it. then the guy I bought it from put a 237 Reman in it that had 10,000 miles on it. Hence "gas engine rear gears".

  10. Anybody collect them?I have just a few, bought them in the "90's and early "00's.Just picked up the Suzio six wheeler at a truck show over the weekend.I'm moving soon so i'm pulling off the mirrors/dogs and boxing them up.I plan to get more when i can!

Bigdog- ever see the Suzio B-81 single axle? Its a beauty -12:00R-24's!

OK-Ct. Trivia- What was the name of the family that owned Adley??

  11. I would presume that your 12k trailer would handle it OK, if it is long enough to the tractor on. Watch out for front overhang getting into your tailgate. Just be sure you have good synthetic grease in the wheel bearings and the heaviest load range tires you can find to fit and properly inflated. Your F350 will do the job fine. My F250 with a heavy 32ft enclosed gooseneck and Diamond T pick up grosses right at 20,000 and handles like a baby carriage. From South Carolina up 77, 81 and 84 to Springfield with cruise set at 68-70 MPH got 10.8 MPG overall.

    Brocky

Brocky-so what do you have for a motor in your 250. By the way-sorry I didn't get to meet you at the show. I stopped at the ATHS web booth on Sunday and they gave me a window sign with my "handle". They should have been passing those out at registration. I did get to meet Maddog-he was parked in the row in back of me.
  12. I know this question has been asked before but looking through the forums it doesn't look like anybody ever got an actual weight. Anybody have a actual weight of a b61 single axle tractor or chasis? The reason I ask is, I have been itching to get a b-61 project truck. I have a 12k deckover dovetail bumperpull trailer that I pull with a f350 and I'm wondering if it would be good enough to carry a b61 single axle tractor,or maybe just a cab-chasis without 5th wheel. Anybody use a simular setup?

For what its worth, my B61X (11:00R x 24, ENDT 675, Duplex, 29,000lb rear, 6/8 yard Galion 10' Dump (300U)) weighs in at 17,800 with about 40 gals. of fuel. I would guess the body and hoist is around 3000/4000?
  13. Brad,

If the noise really bothers you - the next time you plan on doing some fairly major truck work - send me a PM here.

I've had some good success in the B model cabs getting them quieter and cooler. But the interior needs to come completely out of the truck, so there is some time involved. Nothing very complicated - just a pain in the A--.

    Paul VS

So Paul- Before I put the headliner back in my B, what do you recommend as the best/cost effective sound deadener. I was thinking of just stuffing some pink fiberglass in it.
