  1. I did read about the cat trucks somewhere. Basically Australian spec ones would have a raised cab, bigger radiator and supports, return fuel cooler, transmission cooler, diff cooler, I think a bigger front axle and maybe diffs, depending on application. Probably doesn't sound like much but I'm sure a lot of work went into it. That's only from what I've read. I'm a bit dubious of their engine. I know the acert wasn't great, not sure how different this engine is to that?
  2. Take nothing away from these newer trucks, but it does show how fantastic the old Macks are! My dad ran an old '76 cab over kenny, with an 892 in it. He sold that truck in 95, and bought a '91 valueliner with an e7. The money he saved on maintenance and fuel paid for his Mack (4 years old at the time)! It was a free truck he kept telling me. Mack rules!

  6. I know they are trailing standing classrooms at schools here. And I think offices also. But that's all good and well for them! When I'm in the truck I'm sitting from 5am till 10pm, with a few breaks in between. Then I lay down. I guess I'm lucky im only in the truck for 3 or 4 days a week, some blokes are in them for 6.
  7. I know you can get a normal 9inch rim (not offset), so you can keep the 315's. Not sure how much that would save you, I'd say at least 1.5 - 2 inches.

  11. Spoke to a mate who has used them. Apparently they aren't very thick. Looks like I'm gonna return the hubs if all else fails.
  12. My '84 has air to air in front of the radiator also. And the way my 2v drives, I wouldn't swap in for a 4v!
  13. Gearhead, your spot on. I was looking in my mack book and noticed the wear ring. No dimensions were given so I'll check my stub axle tomorrow. Yes blue one is stemco, green one is skf. Also, the green seal is a newer type which spins on its self so it wouldn't need a wear ring. As for the machining, labour costs in Aus might put a stop to that. So I'll see what their quote comes too! I remember building a 302 Windsor years ago and was cheaper to buy new heads from US then port mine.
  14. From what I've read, a 350 2v makes its peak hp at 1950rpm, which is what your tag says. But I'm very sure a 4v 350 makes its peak hp at 1850rpm. Some might confirm this, but looks like you have a 2v.
  15. I think the 350 came in both 2v and 4v. Best way to tell the difference is the valve covers. 2v have pressed steel ones, 4v has cast alloy ones.

  18. Thanks for your input guys. I'm just stuffed as to why there isn't a seal available to fit what I already have. Can anyone give me a seal number or size of the their seal?
  19. Just so the measurements are out there. My hub measures 123mm. Stub axle measures about 99mm. I can get a hub seal which is 120mm, but would need a 1.5mm sleeve, which would be a bit flimsy wouldn't it?
  20. So I was changing my steer axle over to 10 stud today. To cut a long story short, I couldn't get a seal to fit the hub and stub axle. I can get one to fit the hub, and another to fit the stub axle but not one for both. So I'm looking at getting the hub machined to fit the supposed "proper" seal. In the pic below, if I get the hub machined to accept an off the shelf seal, I will be left with a thickness of 1/4inch or 6mm where the seal will sit. Can anyone see a problem with that? Green seal fits, but inner diameter is too small. Blue one is correct inner diameter but too big outer.
