Chicago R models
PeterMack replied to Lmackattack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Al reminded everybody about the Maggio's/ATHS truck show this coming Saturday on the events/shows section and I will here. All are welcome to come out. Old, new, any make or model, just come on out. And don't worry about any scratches in the paint or anything else. Hose the bugs off and bring the trucks out. Its all for fun. A couple years ago I brought all my trucks and my bosses two Macks. A B and an LJ. I brought five trucks to the show. Two Pete's and three Mack's. Had to find a couple drivers, but I managed. Going to try to bring a couple this year, hopefully the weather holds. -

Topsoil. The building where I was going has a $250,000 landscaping budget per corner of the building. So, I guess with that kind of money might at well take out the old dirt and put in new. Ehh, just gotta stand back and cross your fingers. They all made it off my trailer, was a good day -

Was down in the city the last two days battling fog and traffic. Saw a few Macks while I was there. All Prairie trucks. I took pictures of three and there were 10 I missed. Also saw a big crane on a barge, a ton of traffic, and the Trump building while I was sitting on upper Wacker DR. Was warm and sunny today so there was some decent scenery to look at, but I couldn't gawk too much because I had to watch out for people who seem all to willing to step out in front of a truck or walk into the side of a trailer. -

There is a place at 117th and Torrence called Nidera. They take wheat and still use the lifts. The only guys that use them are the TTI trucks. Usually all Pete's with covered wagons out of Wis that bring wheat down and take steel back. They have side kits in the flat beds with doors on the back that open so they can tip the trailers. I've been to the Cargill across from the casino in Hammond but they just have regular dumps there. -
Thats a sharp looking General. $5500, and he's had it for twelve years, I'd say he did alright on that purchase.

Damn this had to hurt, coming to an abrupt stop like this. Looks like the frame and rear axle got busted on this one.

Just depends on how bad they want the corn. If they have a train to unload they'll let you sit there, or if their bins are getting full. Still a-holes down there though. I have a picture of my Dad's first black Mack on the lift. Was probably taken in the early eighties. I have two pictures I took in 2010. The dump is in the exact same spot, but about three years ago they took out the truck lift/scale and paved over that. They put the new scale way before the dump now. -

Gotta wonder what would happen in a wreck with that truck. Would it just slide right over top of a car with that long snout and monster truck right over it? It's like a cabover with 10ft of nose in front of it.

They have a couple big beasts still working. I did an image search and a few others popped up. They have a newer Autocar and a big Western Star. https://www.google.com/search?q=Illinois+Idot+tow+trucks&biw=1280&bih=827&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=hhZIVazECI_GogT--oAo&ved=0CAkQ_AUoBA&dpr=0.9

A friend of mine took this shot of one of Illinois IDOT Autocar wreckers. Was parked off 90/94 in downtown Chicago.

Saw these trucks on Sat hauling in concrete railroad ties to the pit. They are from out of town. Had Nevada and Utah plates on them. They are doing the UP line that runs along RT38. I guess they have thousands of cross ties to bring in, each one has 25 lbs of steel in them. This company also had a CL700 and a Granite but I did not get pictures of them. -

Yes, Palumbo, Orange Crush, Builders Asphalt/Concrete are all one in the same. I think all or most of the builders trucks are formerly Orange Crush trucks. The door jambs are still painted orange. -
The side dump was cool. We have quite a few guys around here that have turned their rear dumps into side dumps but they're only good for one time for some reason:)

Thanks Al. I know I had seen that truck before and I figured you would remember seeing as there are not to many Hendricksons left around here. 1 owner, that's crazy! Sad end to that truck. -

A little off topic, but I came across this picture of a Hendrickson vs. a tree. Looks like it didn't turn out well for either. The article said it happened in Round Lake Beach, but was sketchy on details. Al do you remember this truck? Looks familiar. -

Saw an Orange Crush Granite today hauling some concrete forms. I'm thinking they were for Builders Concrete that was on the job. -
I remember all of those Schnieder, JB, uggo's running around. The one Gearhead had posted reminded me of an Aeordyne KW with the split windows up front. Don't ever recall seeing an Eagle like that, but if they were custom I'm sure they are a little scarce. I wonder if the Eagle has windows up front or if it is just smooth? Can't tell from the angle.

That Autocar with the suicide doors is neat. Can't say that I've ever seen one. Nice finds. -

Yes. That is exactly why they had them up. The Palatine cop sits and watches that like a hawk. I think its entrapment in my opinion. None of it is marked out on 53 or Lake-Cook through there so if your not from the area how would you know. You are doing the right thing the way you are going. Palatine might still screw with you but at least your on an 80,000 pound road. -

I have pictures of that B-model about 40-ish pages back. Mike still has his green R-model also but it was nosed in and I couldn't get a good shot of it. -
I took these at the 2011 ATHS show in South Bend IN. I think the truck Freightrain is talking about is to the right of the KW but for some reason I didn't get a picture of it. Funny that these engines were made in Harvey IL because that town is a DUMP! South side of Chicago DUMP!

Nice pictures. I would think that Eagle has to be somewhat rare. I thought they were all flatops. Don't know if I've ever seen one with a double bunk like that.
