  1. yes, that's it...did see this one in Gladys though. She tried to flag me down, but I didn't stop because I only saw 2 toes on her feets- she might have been an alien.
  2. yep, right across the road. I think it was called Midway Salvage. I've eaten there, but it was several years ago. At the diner that is, not the salvage yard. Used to be an 860 GMC sitting on the left somewhere before you get to Allentown, but it's been long gone.
  3. nah, sometimes I wear a Peterbilt cap though. Jeff bought this KW brand new and it didn't even come with floor mats, so I took the one out of the passenger side of the Pete before it left. The one on the driver side was worn out or I would have used that. I precision cut the brake pedal notch in it myself with my pocket knife. Looks factory, eh?
  4. Lot of places with dust problems and constant traffic, like sawmills, woodyards, quarries, etc. did that. And it would pack down as hard as concrete. Calcium chloride works too, but it's very expensive. Only time they'd spread calcium chloride at the Westvaco yard was when the people who lived across rt.60 from the woodyard complained about it covering everything in their house. Raymond would bring a little Ford tractor over with a hopper on the back, fill it with calcium chloride and ride around the yard until it was empty, and you could kick the ground and you wouldn't see any dust cloud.
  5. I got a positive ground alternator here http://www.metroheavyduty.com/ in Roanoke. I was gonna have them rebuild mine, but they had one on the shelf and it was only $120-some dollars exchange. They rebuilt the one I exchanged the first time, it had one of their stickers on it. Mine wouldn't have needed rebuilding, but somebody put new batteries in the truck once, and momentarily hooked the cables up backwards.
  6. Speaking of the EPA and regulations, and paint, and lines, I've been noticing that the lines on the road are getting really hard to see anymore at night, especially when it's raining, worse still when you're meeting oncoming traffic. I thought I just couldn't see that good any more, which may be true- however, I did pass the eye test without my glasses when I had my last physical- but somebody told me that wasn't it at all, it's the paint they use now. They said the paint used to be an oil base paint and that it used to have something in it to give it a little reflectiveness, but it wasn't "environmently friendly" for some reason or other, so they changed the paint. Now you can't see where you're going at night in the rain at all, but at least the paint does not harm the environment, so that's a big relief. I always worried about the paint in those lines being harmful before, now all I have to worry about is running off the road, down the bank, and into the river.
  7. Here's more of Jim Moore's, took these in Colfax, N.C.
  8. Happy birthday again- here's the hotdog girl.
  9. Once again, I took some pictures this week. Had to take a van to the nucular pire plant in Buchanan, N.Y. and drop it on site for Areva, then bobtail back. Got paid both ways, but it rained most of the way back, and it's never fun to bobtail in the rain. I saw a large car and a big truck on poles. I'm getting out of my comfort zone here- wrong part of the world for me. Truck going through inspection at the power plant- we were lucky, didn't have to go in the secure area. Secret spy shot of one of the reactors. Secret spy shot of a good looking Autocar that was parked there. Billboard in Allentown- I hit a bump on the bridge right as I snapped this picture, I was surprised it was any good at all. Saw these units in Midway- thought maybe they were U models, but they were probably DM's. Thought I saw a DM earlier, all I could see over the wall was the top of the cab and dump body. Then when I got closer I saw that it was a small single axle dump, so it was probably a U model. Didn't take a picture...thought it was probably a DM. I was snacking on some Cheez-It Snack Mix while bobtailing and the box fell in the floor. I picked up the edges of the mat and centered it in a nice neat pile until I could dispose of it properly. I was telling NoClueJoe66 about the incident on the phone and I said "I should take a picture of it"...so I did. This is more like it- saw this cabover KW while heading to Warren, Ohio with a load of steel. This is in Bedford, Va. with Sharp Top Mountain, one of the Peaks of Otter, in the background. Headed west on I-64 in West Virginia Wednesday. Headed east on I-64 in West Virginia Thursday. Heading home on 501 this evening.
  10. I agree Vlad, that's one of the straightest, sharpest looking B models i've ever seen. It's probably jealous of that fancy gussied up Superliner with the bright red paint.
  11. Happy birthday Ed, holy cow you're almost as old as i'm is what are you, about 30-35 now?..just guessing, judging by your picture.
  12. I like "Pickles" too- I can see myself getting more like Earl all the time.
  13. Old Bill just happened to send me some magazines he found in his closet. One was Canadian, the other was a Truckin' Life from Australia, from 2010. Very good pictures and articles, even had an article about the Iowa 80 Truckstop, kinda neat to read because it was in the Australian magazine, little different point of view than we might have. Anyway, I copied some pictures from it. Nice B and Diamond T's inside the front cover. Check out the sleeper on this 190 International. There's a Superliner (Titan) up in there somewhere! Some Superliners (Superliners) Haven't seen any cabovers like this around these parts. That legendary SAR Kenworth looks pretty neat,eh? So does this-

  19. Holy hamburgers, i'm done for!
  20. oh. Next time just say bumps Vinny, everybody knows what they are.
  21. I'd say the salvage yard is your best bet for all necessary parts. I know a Chevelle ain't a truck, but I put a 4 speed in a '70 Chevelle that was an automatic once. Went to the junkyard and bought all the parts out of a 4 speed Chevelle- I already had the transmission, I just got the clutch pedal, all the linkage, bellhousing, flywheel, and so on. I expected it to be a lot harder job than it was, everything was there for the 4 speed, all holes already drilled and tapped, so it was pretty much just bolt it in and go. I had expected to have to drill, tap, cut, weld, cuss, and all that, but I didn't.
