  1. Again I haven’t seen this either I but maybe he had a rocker stick was the push tube bent? I’ve seen guide pins break and raise hell ! This appears not to have guide pins ! Not what I’m used to! Sure would be nice to know the cause I’m with u on that!
  2. I didn’t follow this thread how ever ! Came in at the end here To me that cam looks pretty hammered so I think it’s odvious having to set for the wear would account for the setting if that’s what he did! I can remember doing these chasing ticks and mostly chirps ! Doing a set only if I was asked to! These engines from what I saw held there set well if there was a gooffy valve setting especially on only one cyl something is likely going sideways down town. Just my observation!
  3. It will sort it self bro !There is an obvious issue sounds like he is heading to a cam job ! I personally would pull the pump pull a main or two and check stuff as you probably would! just can leave stones unturned when your that deep!
  4. yup pulling the pump is a given here
  5. Good find Dave ! Thanx for posting this! All these posts can assist guys in there endeavors to getter done! What you found is un common so every little bit helps!
  6. Roll the push rod on a bench if it rolls nice its good!
  7. Let us know how it goes with this ! This is kind of a first for me up till now We have done just cams ! We all know the just exhaust enhancements help a lot by the lengthy post on that subject! But Plus the cam is a new twist I think! 😅 Good call on checking the buddys truck that will help in getting the right cam!🤞
  8. yup well a wear ! Thanks !clarity is good! I believe these AC were offered with jake or power leash! if he receives a power leash cam and doesn't use it it will likely be fine ! If he receives a power leash cam and has a Jake! different story me thinks! Just sayin!
  9. 😜 I managed to find one through the snap-on criminal!
  10. I do like the power leash set up all the ones I have seen and worked on always worked decent compared to Dynatard sorry mistake in the post above! The 40 thou feeler was a pain to find but otherwise peice of cake to set! Note also when your setting besure if your engine does not have a guide pin on the intake valves that the cross head is seated correctly One of the boys from work called me yesterday and said he had done a cam job the week before and it came back a week later ticking! He found a bad set on one intake I questioned him on the yoke pin He said nope no pin I said re set it ! I think you'll be fine now! Just something to watch for!
  11. Red Is your engine equipped with Jacobs or Dynatard or nothing? you need to cross reference like engine configurations to get the right part !What your doing will work however you are worried about the right things here! That said the exhaust manifold thing is much less intrusive ! but if your doing a cam anyway..............! I get it! and in my opinion you should convert the exhaust to 5 inch as well! Put your cards on the table it will be easier to help if we can!
  12. Hmmm! Curious about the almost front runner there Opti-Lube XPD Diesel Fuel Improver has good reveiws!
  13. Its a bit pricey But I always like to recommend Standyne lubricity formula as a last go to, before having to pull a fuel pump ,if it don't cure the issue it is a pump shop job! seen the stuff smarten up pumps many times!
  14. Its a shame the extra dollars has to go to some type of insurance ! Instead of building a decent part that doesn't fail in the first place! Just criminal in my mind! Unfortunately EVERTHING has gone this way ! Waste full throw away mentality !
  15. Well used 475 as my guide hopefully all will be good she dropped right on there!
  16. anyone remember the temp to heat the cam gear to! to install on new cam! ? 475 comes to mind how ever un sure!
  17. If its AMBAC its doable on the truck ! I Have done it! The governor can be removed with out disturbing segments and rebuilt if you can find a Good fuel shop to deal with It!
  18. Yet a another brain dead Volvo move!😡
  19. Yup don't go beating on the damper with a hammer surefire way to ruin it! just remove two opposing bolts install a puller and jack off a socket or sawed off piece of bolt that will fit inside the hole! you may have to apply a little heat around the hub area! Ive seen these real tight and sort of loose and anywhere in between! joes heading you in the right direction!
  20. Yup do the simple stuff first rad cap also!
  21. Anything is possible if you have the the where with all and the money depending on the hp you plan on using! The Allison likley won.t work well behind a V8 How ever a E6 E7 It will do fine! your best to get a donor truck for parts the biggest draw back is the trans cooling lots of extra plumbing!
  22. Last Time I trust you buddy! 😅
  23. fuel pump numbers will reveal if its maxidyne or thermal!
  24. I agree I hate doing these in frame too easy to drop a lifter easy to make a mistake ! If you accidently drop or smack one with a cam lobe is it any good?? The ceramic seemed to solve the etching issue how ever who really knows what the real problem was with the steel they worked well in some engines and not others! know one ever clarified why they were failing!
