Back in the 80's every 4wd was jacked up! It was the cool thing to do. Then the 90's went backwards due to enforcement of bumper height laws. There are a few monsters but not like it was.

That would be a cool thing to see. Those trucks just amaze me.

Friend used to run FPPF years back in his truck. It ranks up there pretty well.

I put Power Service in mine every few tanks. Get the qt size that does 100 gal and split it between the tanks(2-40gal). I have to admit, it does seem to give it some "umph" in the power dept. Not drastic, but it does pull one hill one gear faster then without the additive.

Slack adjusters come in a variety of designs. You will need length(from center of spline shaft to mounting pin of brake chamber) and spline information(number of teeth and diameter). Picture for reference:

Don't think there are any patch panels available for these(at least anymore). I put a new floor in mine 13 yrs ago. Plain 16ga steel. I've posted the pics before, I can dig up the link if you like. Back of cab/mount area is also typical problem. Again, just some basic fab work is needed. Watts should have window rubber and glass. I'm sure your local glass shop could cut you some if you have good samples since it is all flat.

King pins should be easy, once you get the axle number(F505, etc). Brakes? Never had to deal with them, but if all else fails, having them reshoe your originals is possible.

$3500 for a running, driving, workable Mack tow truck> No bad in my eyes either. Electrical in these old trucks is not much of a problem, per say. As long as some hacker didn't get in there and just start cutting stuff!

Uh...wondered if you could get to the saw place the "new" way. They were working on Navarre Rd, under Rt77 underpass the other week and had it blocked off. Was wondering if you had to come up this way recently.

The storms were all around us, we got some drizzle mid afternoon in Salem, Ohio. We did get our race in after the rain left and the track was dried. I suspected more rain, but it faded out before reaching us. Glad you guys had a nice turn out and sunny skies!

The computer is off about 1/2 gal/mile. Not huge in my eyes(for a onboard type system), but when you are talking about such a large fuel capacity on a vehicle it can add up quickly for "missing gallons".

Since I stretched mine out, I'd like to put a set of small round alum tanks behind the bunk, like that truck, and then steps(battery boxes/toolbox) under the doors. I like that look.

The shutterstat itself is just a temperature controlled air valve. With heat, it should close off the air going to the shutters. The shutters should be spring OPEN by default. If they are not opening, remove the air line going to the air cylinder on the shutters and see if they spring open. Is there air leaking from that line now? Then the shutterstat itself is faulty. It takes at least 70 or so psi to get mine to close(against the spring pressure) when I first start the truck after sitting a few days(and no air in the system). Not sure how much air pressure it takes to allow them to close. Maybe your shutterstat is not closing all the way and allowing just enough air pressure to hold the shutters closed. Removing the air line will tell the story.

On these trucks, you just have to push the pedal, count to three, then very gingerly feel your way into gear. I too have heard "drivers" at stop lights grind the life outta first gear trying to force it in. Ugh, they surely prove that they are NOT the ones fixing it when it breaks. I would guess the screws are for lever height adjustment after rebuiding.

Great work so far. Looks fresh and new. I remember mine 4 yrs ago when I stretched it. Now the POR 15 has faded to dull black and it looks all worn out again. At least you have LARGE outside work area. Mine was all done in a single car garage stall. Going outside was needed if you had to change your mind about something.

You mean after it gets to 185*, the shutters won't open back up? When cold, the shutterstat allows air pressure to small cylinder to close shutters. Once it reaches operating temp, it shuts the air off to the cylinder on the shutters and the shutters open under spring pressure.
