  1. I've seen photos of the "HayMack" cabover interior but have no idea where I saw them. The dashboard had a smaller wraparound section. It looked pretty good.
  2. PGT Trucking has a system where the driver can temporarily override the governor in passing situations. It's a step in the right direction.
  3. That's an antiquated law from a time when lawmakers didn't pull new rules out of their butts just because they were bored or wanted to justify their positions. The reversal of the two 1-5am periods required for a 34 hour reset is a perfect example. They couldn't see for themselves the impact that such a restriction would have on a business that runs 24/7/365 so it was made law. They needed someone to "draw them a picture". Now that the obvious has been pointed out at the expense of truck drivers and trucking companies, more money and man hours needed to be wasted to undo the changes needed to comply in the first place. I agree that changing a law is not the solution when current the law is not adequately enforced.
  4. Pitt Ohio has a handful of LNG Freightliners waiting to go into service. We're told they have a 300 mile range and there is 1 filling station in the Pittsburgh area. It sounds to me like these trucks will have to be limited to local P&D work. A list of the 18 winners can be found in this article: http://www.fleetsandfuels.com/fuels/cng/2015/01/pennsylvania-ngv-awards-7-3-million/
  5. In America, the vehicle with the biggest tires wins.
  6. I'd probably make it as far as the first oncoming car before I put it in a ditch.
  7. I've always enjoyed driving on the left side of the road, although it's probably not as exciting when everyone else is doing it too.
  8. Everything is staying in the west of the Prime Meridian and north of the Mexican border. Refreshing.
  9. You got something against this guy or do you discriminate against all drunk driving, gun stealing, arrest resisting, property damaging scumbags?
  10. About halfway (+ -) through the project and already a masterpiece.
  11. What happens in Limerick, stays in Limerick.
  12. These pics are from the www.gzavitz.com website. Notice on the logo how the white field below "Zavitz" is blank while the others have "Brothers LTD" in that space. The B model has horizontal shutters but appears to be a B-61. Was that common? I believe the LJ was his first Mack.
  13. Found the thread that I started on banana haulers. It seems I was asking about Uncle Ole 9 1/2 years ago! http://hankstruckforum.com/htforum/index.php?topic=1606.0
  14. It's quite possible we've crossed paths. My Dad hauled out of Albany, Wilmington, Baltimore, Port Newark, 39th St Brooklyn, and for a short time Pier 42 in Manhattan .Never been to Philly or Camden and Weehawken had stopped handling bananas before his time. His company was located at the 5 corners formed by Hunts Point Ave, Halleck St, and (I think) East Bay Ave. I've been to all the above piers with him a few times but most of his loads came out of Brooklyn and Port Newark. I spent most of my summer breaks from '73-'77 on the truck with him and I was pretty much a part of the landscape at Bklyn and Newark. I was always out amongst the trucks or schmoozing with the drivers in the lunch bus. My Dad took a lot of pics back then and sadly all have been lost except one. Here I am in the waiting lot in Wilmington in the spring of '74. We were in a Hertz rental that day-'73 Ford W9000, 318, 13 speed. It was my Dads first time with a 13 speed Roadranger and as I recall it was a humbling experience for a driver who, like so many of that era, had mastered the two-stick boogie.
  15. Here are direct links to the threads: This one is about Zavitz: http://hankstruckforum.com/htforum/index.php?topic=755.msg4121#msg4121t Edit: Now the site won't load. The Zavitz thread will keep him quite busy until I get back on here tomorrow and find the other one. I gotta get truckin'.
  16. I thought Mack had stop using the second duct for that purpose by this time. Is it possible the hood or air cleaner are not original? I don't trust a truck with only one dog mirror, facing the wrong way to boot.
  17. Wow, small world! My Dad worked for a banana company out of the Bronx and I spent much of my time off from school riding with him. There was lots of downtime waiting to get loaded so I would just walk around looking at the trucks and since I would see many of the same drivers all the time I could often times see a truck in the distance and know who was driving it. I know your uncle's name because he had it on the door of a Zavitz Cruiseliner using those black on gold stick-on, hardware store type letters. I can still picture him waiting in line behind my Dad at the scale house in Port Newark. He had fair skin and blonde or reddish hair, wearing green work pants and shirt and was probably in his late 20's or early 30's at the time. I don't know how I remember this stuff. There are 2 big Zavitz discussions on HTP and your Uncle Ole's name comes up a few times, as well as the guy named Bill I mentioned who has since passed away. I understand he went to Melburn and had a small fleet of Superliners there? Melburn, Quinn, and JE Fortin from Quebec also had a presence at the piers but Zavitz always had the most trucks by far.
  18. Since they already have sleeper options on other models using that cab, how hard could it be to build a Titan with a Pinnacle sleeper for a customer willing to pay the price?
  19. Chevy Silverado, according to the report I saw.
  20. Nah, in fact there's a rumor going around that they're planning a protest against tofu because it's white.
  21. Welcome to the Green Dash Weight Loss Program. If your too grossed out to eat, you'll lose weight...naturally. I'd say my tofu just got knocked out of the top spot on the shit list.
  22. The fella I spoke to about that truck was named George and the owner was his uncle. George has his own trucking company but I don't know the name. Do you remember any other drivers from back then? I can picture a few of them but the only names I remember are a guy named Bill who was an O/O with a brown and white KW K100 and a another driver named Olie. There's a handful of cool photos of the Zavitz Brothers fleet on the K.A.M Trucking website but the pictures aren't loading for some reason.
  23. Speaking of Prime Rib, I just ground up some Tofu and threw it into the frying pan with some olive oil, fresh garlic, onion, basil, salt, and pepper. Then into the pot with the whole grain elbow mac and tomato sauce. Mm..mm..mm..gooooood eatin'!
  24. I saw that truck (or a twin) a few times at the Port of Albany when I was a kid. Zavitz got it, as well as some R and F-600's when they bought out a company by the name of Mel-O-Ripe, which would explain the why it's blue instead of red like the rest of the Zavitz fleet. A few years ago I was exchanging email's with a member of the Trucknet site whose uncle owned this truck (or a twin). He purchased it from Zavitz to become an O/O and leased it back to them. It eventually caught fire and was scrapped. There were 3 Zavitz brothers that owned trucking companies back then. 2 of the brothers owned Zavitz Brothers LTD which was the larger company of the two and the operator all the above trucks. G (Gerald) Zavitz LTD from Niagara Falls was known simply as Zavitz back then and used the same company logo, but without the words Brothers LTD under the name, which is somewhat visible in the photo. There are 3 companies currently in operation that are run by the sons and grandchildren of the 3 brothers: G. Zavitz LTD, K.A.M Trucking, and Zavcor.
