I was browsing the channels the other day and came across one of those auto restoration shows. Seems like there's about a dozen of them now, and I don't even remember the name of the show. But I stopped when I saw them working on this '53 White truck and tanker trailer. It looked good at first, but the owners wanted to modernize it. They removed the old 150 HP gas engine and put a Cummins in it, out of a pickup I think, and replaced the transmission with an automatic. Took the 2 speed rear out and put in a single speed with air ride, and put an air ride suspension under the trailer too. I like the engine upgrade, but I would have left the transmission and rear end alone. Or maybe put a 10 speed Roadranger in it. But a very nice looking truck anyway.

Cool looking truck. As for the mods, whatever floats their boat I guess.

Myself, I like stock. I just went out of my way finding new drums for Dayton spokes for my Louisville because I refuse to convert to budds.

Hard to believe how much stuff is going obsolete now for even trucks built in the 80's. Around here tire shops can't even get wheel spacers for Daytons. there used to be millions of them on the road here right up into the early 2000's.

It's getting sad. Starting to get harder and harder to keep our good old trucks on the road. They keep obsoleting parts, some stuff getting hard to find.

Oh I know I worry about engine issues. I’ve had my truck for 32 years. I haven’t hardly done anything to it. Long long boring story but mainly too many hours at work and I didn’t have a garage when I bought it. A lot of shit was still available. I finally ready to do some serious work to it. A lot of this stuff is NA fortunately through the years I picked up just about everything I needed. basically all I got left is little shit that you can buy anywhere a few hoses and lines mainly and a bunch of body supplies that part of it I’m actually looking forward to. I am very good with auto body paint and fiberglass.ill be continuing on the Nose real soon. And yes, not sure if you’ve ever read when I was a teenage kid in 1973. I was working on the tire shop mainly trucks. All he had was split rims and tube tires. I was only there for six months but in that time, I only saw one truck come in with bud wheels. It was a GMC 9500. I’ll never forget it because it was the only one I ever saw in there. I don’t remember if it was tubeless tires are not too long ago.

On  the tube type wheels it is the insurance companies who are the tail wagging the dog.. Instead of making sure the shop has a cage and trained employees, they just say "Do not touch them"!!!!!!!

If you want to blow Pilots mind, show up to their shop with a Tube Type Disk (Budd) wheel and tire! They will not work on spoke wheels and can't comprehend that disk wheels can be tube types! Fun entertainment for a tired truck driver.

It might have been Loves 🤔 Yellow/orange limited service!  Spokes I could always do faster cheaper myself. If it is 90 deg a humid and I have an inner disk wheel, I am not doing that with hand tools if I don't have to.

I’ve had lousy luck with loves Winnemucca Nevada. They’re always shorthanded. That’s what a tow driver told meLast time. I was in there. I was right in front of the door there for four hours. Glad I’m done. They’ll never see me again two brand new F350 service trucks that never moved the entire four hours
