We have a low mileage 2001 Mack CH600 tractor on which the turbo oil line ruptured and started a fire on the turbo. We went through 3 fire extinguishers but the fire spread to the air filter housing and wiring and everything on outside firewall and interior passenger side of dash is ruined. Fire department blew out the front windshields but doors ,air ride seats, rear glass etc is good.

Before this happened there was no damage at all to the truck.  It has 300k miles, ETec 7 engine, 10 speed manual transmission. We only use it on our farm and everything worked fine on the truck. It’s pre def and onerous emissions. I searched for this truck quite long time and it was so reliable for our needs.
Before I sell the truck for salvage, I wonder is it possible or practical to replace the cab?

All feedback is appreciated

Im sorry about the fire.   Pictures of the damage may be helpful for us to guide you. Many here have parts... 880joe is very smart about this topic and has many parts. He is a good guy and I feel sure he can help you.

Well I know it is bad to you...  I have repaired worse..  will you be doing the work, and what is your time line to be up and running?

I see the valve covers didnt melt.. Nice...  i guess all damage is to plastic and wires..

Yes everything plastic on the turbo side of the engine melted, hoses wires, etc. Driver side of the engine doesn’t look too bad. When the large plastic air filter housing melted it left a lot of plastic residue. Valve covers look good.
Hard to imagine but the oil feed line to the turbo is still intact I wonder if we just had turbo seals to fail? The fire was initially just on the turbo but when the air filter housing caught fire that’s when the fire became intense.

That was usually the result of a broken injector line.

yup but!  usually to the ai engines! when they changed to the dollar store fuel  Lines!

Mark were you ever involved in the fuel line bandaid putting the tin foil sheild on the lines? What a joke!

😂 no tin foil, but I had a CH that looked similar to the blazing away pictures.  I was lucky and got it out though.

We had a bunch of trucks they sent out a bunch of bandaid kits out ! What a joke! that it only happened for a short time!    THENI think some one told them to fix it Or ESLE ! NO BANDAIDS! Guess they found a new line  supply ! They also tried to blame us wrench Guys!  Makeing us do a fuel line tightening coarse ! I was super piss about that!  Just my take on the fiasco! Just Behind the blinds drama!

I hate doing burn jobs. Best thing I can recommend is finding a complete used truck that is similar and making one from the two. Even if you can find a "new" or even used cab, there will be so much other damage that will send you chasing after individual parts, it will drive to cost and time way up.

Another complete truck that you pick all the small parts off of, make the job more attractive.

Best of luck
