Mack ch613

Recommended Posts

2004 Mack ch613 bran new (electronic fan clutch) engages and and disengages every 10-15 seconds. Coolant temp is reading 180 on and on computer.

ac switch ( green one) looped the wires on the engine harness side and the fan still runs and shuts off. I checked the 3 connectors on the ecm clean no coolant or oil. No Freon in the ac system.

new coolant sensor on back of water manifol. Coolant is full engine builds temp.

Any idea why fan continues to engage or disengage.

is it coming on hard or is it just coming in slow and then going out slow??

Weren't they those Behhr or whatever the name was that you were supposed to hotwire them after installing one and run it at a certain RPM until it disengaged then it was ready plug back in and drive off into the sunset ?

2004 was the first year and only year for they crammed  Aset AC engine in the CH/CX the results were not good . Lots of over heating issues, we were changing fan belts every oil change due to the under hood heat causing belt failure. Things eventually got sorted out with parts updates and service campaigns/recalls. By 2005 the CHN/CXN came out and problems decreased. I do remember seeing the fan clutch surging you described but don’t remember the cause or repair. The fan clutch used on the ASET AC look exactly the same but are different part numbers, so the incorrect one could be installed. 2004 was the most embarrassing  year for us as a Mack dealer !  We at one point had no less than 5 dead new  trucks in the yard Robbed of parts to keep customers on the road! Mainly turbos! Fuel lines were another issue ! after they painted them selves into a corner buying cheap ass dollar store fuel lines!  Fan hubs also became an issue on The AI engines shortly after! Corner Cutting, Cost them Big Time reputation wise! The AC and AI engines went on to be Fairly reliable engines after a year or two how ever.........!
