New to A model ownership.

I brought my A model home this weekend, and now I’m trying to figure out if it has the correct radiator/front end on it. 
I looked through all the A model pictures I could find, and mine is the only one I could find with the radiator cap on the outside of the hood behind the bulldog. Anyone have any idea.

Looks like an L-model radiator assembly to me.

A-models seem having flatter front end like B-models do.

Does the hole for the rad cap look factory-made?

While I don’t remember seeing an A model with a filler cap like that If the hood fits the cowl and radiator shell the radiator shell is factory.  It is hard to tell the difference between radiator shells even when I have my A model and L model next to each other. Of course the the A shell is smaller. Neat truck. Have fun with it. Mike.

I’ll try to take a better picture of the radiator cap tomorrow.

What we really need to know is the serial number or at east the model.  I assume it is a diesel and has a bigger radiator to cool it. My L model gas job has the radiator cap under the hood while my diesel has the cap exposed like your A model. Mike.

Here’s a few more pictures. The hood matches the grill shell and the cab. The engine is a 510 gas with an Ellis dual carb intake. The model number is A-54T.

Hello. Your setup is identical to my A54T 1094. My radiator cap is also behind the dog as yours is. Brought mine to the house 3 weeks ago. Good luck!

Thanks a game.  I talked to a guy at a show yesterday (he brought a R model Mack to an International  Show) that said he thought he remembered being able to order A models with the larger L model radiator.

My brouchure of a A-54SW shows rad cap on outside of shell behind bulldog. Also a A-54SW log truck in this town in 1954 had rad cap in same place as yours. I know that the A-40 had cap inside of hood but smaller engine so probably smaller rad. The A-51, A55, and A-50 maybe had external caps also because of bigger rads.
