London attacks

Seven people had their lives prematurely snuffed out by three cowardly individuals in a van. One witness said the men were shouting "This is for Allah" after they parked their van and engaged in hand-to-hand attacks.

Over a 15 year period between 1995 and 2014, there were 3,158 terrorism-related deaths in the United States.

But in 2015 alone, the FBI says Americans murdered 15,696 fellow Americans. Terrorists of all factions needn't bother with the US, as we're doing a far better job than they could ever dream of killing ourselves. Radical Islamist are the least of our worry. You need to watch your back in the supermarket parking lot, at the gas station, that remote summer campground, or................

How are we going to protect ourselves from...........ourselves?

For example, that innocent NFI driver, a victim of a drive-by shooting (https://www.bigmacktrucks.com/topic/50065-worthless-people/#comment-371409).

Trump says Chicago is more dangerous than Afghanistan. And that makes Detroit on the scale of Somalia.

The travel ban as written makes no sense, because citizens from Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia aren't included.

Travel ban 2.0 only includes 6 Muslim countries (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen). Iraq has now been omitted.

"Based on what we're told", Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and the UAE all have histories of training, harboring and exporting terrorists.

Any ordinarily prudent individual seeking to ward off future terrorism would bear in mind recent history* and include the countries whose citizens came to the United States and committed terrorism.

* Fifteen of the nineteen September 11 radical Islamist hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. 2,369 Americans were killed in the United States by Saudi citizens over the 1975-2015 period.

Though no Americans have been killed on U.S. soil by citizens from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen over the 1975-2015 period, I have no problem with them being on the list. However, if we're going to go down this path, I expect Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia to be on the list as well.

I agree with your assessment, Kevin, that the travel ban as written is a silly attempt at politically correct lip service. The order should include all those nations that you list, or none at all. But that does not mean it is unconstitutional. The President is well within the law to limit immigration in the name of safety and security. Funny how British authorities made several arrests within 24 hours of the London bridge attack. It seems we know who these assailants are, but fail to act before it is too late. What about an ounce of prevention? That is all our president is trying to do. Leave PC to the curb, the Muslim extemists already discriminate against all of us, they wish us dead.

I disagree KS, the temporary travel ban makes way more sense then opening up our borders for a free for all with out really knowing who is coming in. Why should we let people who have done nothing but fight with each other for 2000 years who hate us come here?  Why should this happen to the US or any of our allies? Why should the world sit on its haunches as these guys slowly infiltrate the civilized countries because they figured out they can because of political correctness and try and disrupt it? If they hate the west so bad why do they come to it and then try and change it? A Melting pot is one thing but a hostile take over is another.  Pretty soon the allies are going to get sick of this crap, tell the PC police to take a hike and actually do something about this.

The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by the people who vote for a living.

The government can only "give" someone what they first take from another.

I have never suggested that we open our borders. Quite the contrary, I have expressed the need for "effective" border control and the immediate removal of illegal immigrants.

London is infested.  Wonder if they have any plan to deal with it?  Said plan would of course need to politically correct.

The need to be politically correct would preclude the hanging of the bodies pf the three attackers from London Bridge for all to see...

My apologies KS, I went back and reread your post and had misread/misunderstood it the first time. Always enjoyable visiting with you.

Saudi Arabia footballers ignore minute's silence for London attack victims

The Guardian  /  June 9, 2017

Saudi Arabia’s national football team have been criticized for failing to observe a minute’s silence held before Thursday’s match against Australia in Adelaide.

The Socceroos lined up in the centre of the pitch before the World Cup qualifier and held the brief silence as a tribute to the two Australians killed in the terrorist attack in London at the weekend. As they did so, the Saudi Arabia team continued jogging, passing the ball between each other and taking their positions on the field.

Pictures from the match show a single Saudi player, Salman al-Faraj, appearing to stand facing the Australia team with his hands behind his back.

Adam Peacock, a presenter with Fox Sports Australia, said the Asian Football Confederation has approved the minute’s silence against the wishes of traveling Saudi officials. He said the Football Federation of Australia “tried to reason” with the Saudis but were unable to persuade them to participate in the tribute.

Sara Zelenak, 21, from Brisbane and the South Australian Kirsty Boden, 28, were killed in Saturday night’s terrorist attack. Zelenak was working in London as a nanny and Boden was a nurse, whose family said she died running “towards danger, in an effort to help people on the bridge”. Two other Australians were stabbed in the neck in the attack, which has been claimed by the terrorist group Islamic State.

Australia went on to win the match 3-2, putting the country on track to qualify for the next World Cup in Russia in 2018.

A Football Federation Australia (FFA) spokesperson told News Corp the Saudi team notified them they would not be honouring the tribute in advance of the pre-match ritual.

"The FFA was further advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture and they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom whilst taking their own positions on the field."

The Saudi team's display has drawn heavy criticism.

3AW radio host Neil Mitchell told the TODAY Show the team should "apologise and get out".

"If it's not in line with their culture then they should have honoured our culture and done the right thing. They've insulted Australia, they've insulted Australians, they've insulted the British victims as well.

"It was disrespectful, it was insulting."

TODAY co-host Sylvia Jeffreys noted "I would be required to wear a headscarf if I were to travel to Saudi Arabia and they can't stand still for one minute to observe something that has no cultural, no religious background, no meaning in a faith or religious respect, it is simply honouring people who have lost their lives."

Labor MP Anthony Albanese told TODAY the display was disgraceful.

"This isn't about culture, this is about a lack of respect," he said.

“The time had come to call on Qater to end its funding … and its extremist ideology.”

“The nation of Qatar…has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level.”

President Donald Trump

June 9, 2017

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, in so stating, then why didn’t President Trump include Qatar in this original and/or revised travel ban?  (The ban includes Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen having omitted Iraq in the revision).

Last Friday, Trump said Qatar was a country with "extremist ideology” that "has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level.”

Five days later, this Wednesday, we're selling Qatar 36 F-15s for $12 billion (they have an option for 36 more......a total of 72).

Makes sense......right?

None at all. Our politics seem so backwards no matter who is in office. If they paid politicians the median wage in America I think we'd actually get someone who cares versus someone who wants a cush career.
