2012 Lakeside Sand and Gravel Open house

Recommended Posts

Well, another show in the books. WOW, what a turn out. We ran out of places to put all the trucks, we were stacking them 2-3 deep and had to put the rest out in the front area.

Heres one for Michelle: had a silver 92 in it.

Saw a few BMT people there.

Stan Leman made quite a showing...............93 CL E9-500 hp!! He worked a few years trying to buy this. He has had it for a few years now. Pretty low mileage truck.

Got a 6/71 with a 5spd. Hydraulic steering(just 1/2 wheel that basically was a tiller control. Really a trick to be smooth. Did you notice...>NO rear view mirrors! Ya, quite a trick to back this thing up to a bucket. At idle, there is not enough hydraulic pressure to work anything, so it won't steer(arg). After 4 rounds I was getting the hang of it.

I then got to switch up to this:

Same 6/71 5spd set up. At least it has a regular steering wheel LOL!! No power steering though. Both prove that Detroits are the best machine ever designed to turn diesel fuel into smoke and NOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This one would not dump unless it was on the wood. There again, at idle it doesn't make enough pressure to lift the bed.

After three hours of that fun, I was whipped. I drug myself home and went to Hog Heaven to meet up with my local Ford club members for dinner.

I've got a few more, just need to download them from my phone.

I'm not sure, but think this is about the 8th? annual open house. Larry Kotkowski puts on quite a spread. Over a dozen cable shovels, 1/2 dozen dirt haulers, dozen bulldozers, bus tours of the property, FOOD. I want to thank Larry for an awesome time and the chance to drive those crazy mechanical menaces from the past. I put 3 hours in them, couldn't image 10-12 hrs a day, 6 days a week!
