umodelnut Posted November 11, 2011 Share Posted November 11, 2011 Hi guys, i was wondering if mack used the same serial numbers on trucks because my serial number is U685ST-11692 and one of the guys who had my truck said he had another u model and the serial number on that one was U685T-11692. and the only difference is that mine had a tandem rear axle originally and the other one had a single axle rear end. vinny Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Either one of you have the numbers mixed up, either model or serial mumber, or someone has messed with one of the trucks. Check the serial numbers on the frame. Vinny's truck is a U685ST denoting it was built as a tandem. The other U685T was built as a a single drive axle. These are both original configurations. A guess would be the same company, or dealership for stock ordered the chassis on the same production order. yarnall Posted November 11, 2011 Share Posted November 11, 2011 U685 is the model number. T is a single axle tractor. ST is a tandem tractor. It started at 1001 serial number and should have continued sequentially no matter what letters were after that(S, T, SX, X...) I called Don Schumaker(Curator of the Mack Museum) who said that they did not make two truck of the same model with the same serial number. They each need their own identity. If one is a U686 or some other model they could have the same numbers afterward, but not just the T versus ST. He is looking thru the records of the U685T11692 and U685ST11692 just to make sure something funny did not happen, but it should not have. I have a B66 at home, B66T1194, but I do not have the serial number plate. It is on another truck which is titled as B66T1194, but on its frame rail it a B67T. daveigou Posted November 11, 2011 Share Posted November 11, 2011 Trucks of the same model, even if they were built in another plant, (in this case Oakville Ont, Canada) still would not have the same chassis number. Generally speaking, Mack also would not split a customer order (GSO) between two different plants.Also, the chassis number is assigned when the truck clears engineering, sometimes even several weeks before the unit is built, and it is very common that trucks had consecutive serial (chassis) numbers even though they were built weeks apart.I had also been involved in an incident when a truck came into the dealership and the chassis serial did not match the door plate, and the MSO, and the dealer was required to actually X out the number on the frame rail and re-stamp it with a factory stamp set. I was suprised that the customer really didn't have much of a reaction, I expected a problem from him, but it never was. yarnall Posted November 12, 2011 Share Posted November 12, 2011 I spoke with Don Schumaker again. He said there are not two U685's with serial number 11692. Flexivan placed an order for 21 U685ST's. They are all on one General Sales Order so all are spec'd the same. The serial numbers go from U685ST11675-U685ST11695. They were built in Canada. Get your buddy to check his frame rail.
