  1. The twin exhaust is factorty, split manifolds ,the engine is a flathead 6 Chrysler industrial engine. The Custom tractor was only built a couple years, this one was a Fluid Drive model and supposedly one of only 7 still around. I was told, then they started making the same tractor for Montgomery Ward, branded as a Ward tractor.
  2. Local NAPA store gave me this banner they were taking down, not a Mackbut nice rendering of a classic GMC
  3. Loaded B73 and Mercury sleeper for my friend Latty to deliver to new home Hauled some fertilizer Had some help got B815 home saw a couple neat items at a friends place,'31 Studebaker truck, and a Sheppard diesel power unit
  4. More often than not,my addiction causes me not to think about what I should do for the good of my finances, and what usually happens is I spend money that I don't have on an old truck. This time was a little different,I'd just sold 3 other trucks so I had the money, this one wasn't that much so I'd still have a nice chunk to put towards bills, and I felt I deserved a little treat to myself for all the grief of my health issues last winter and this spring. Had I known the new engine in my son's truck was going to grenade,I probably wouldn't have done it,but that's just life I guess. I took a liking to this truck when it was advertised by Bigwood logger about 2 years ago. I've wanted a B815 for along time, and had missed out on a few in the past. I was kinda disappointed when he decided to keep it,but couldn't blame him. Then when it came back up for sale a few weeks ago,I jumped on it and made a deal with him. My friend Larry did a super job putting things together getting it picked up,he delivered the B73 I sold to Byron,IL,loaded a steam engine in Oregon,IL to SD,picked up a big JD tractor in northern IA to go to OH,as he had a '51 Custom tractor to pickup in OH for another friend ,and then came back thru MI to pick up the B815. So here it is,still has the END864 V8,18 speed Quad,6:34 ratio,34k rears, air lock power divider, walking beam & spring suspension,22" front rubber,20" rear.Cab is pretty good,a few dents & some rust, but all fixable, not all beat down and rusted out in the rear cab mounts, floor is all really good except right in front of drivers seat, but its a simple fix. all glass good except windshields. Fenders,& bumper straight and solid.hood is bent up but I think I can pound it out. Had a little trouble getting it running to unload, started up ok,but then died after a few minutes and we couldn't get it to keep running. took filters off, both were full of really nasty, rusty, watery crap that didn't even smeel like fuel, plus one had a small hole in it. Changed them and it fired up and stayed running enough to drive it home from the truckstop where we unloaded.Going to have to drain tanks good, throttle linkage seems to be binding too,but all in all I'm very happy with it. I do need one B815 emblem if anyone has a spare, both V8 emblems were present.
  5. Well, just talked to dealer.Mack is going to build me a new engine. They didn't go into anymore detail than that so we will see what happens. Makes me kinda wonder if the ghost of Zenon Hansen did a little haunting last few nites.
  6. That's what I expected too,I've never know a Mack re-man to fail. That's why I put my trust in Mack. I guess thats what I get for constantly living in the past instead of accepting the way things are . My son wanted to repower with Cummins, guess I should have listened. If you know someone left high up with real Mack blood in their veins that I could talk to about this,I'd appreciate it,because I truly feel I'm going to get little satisfaction from my dealer.
  7. that wore out 673 probably would pull better than the cut back POS fleet spec Vision/Pinnacle I had to lease for him, probably get better fuel mileage too, just talked to him it's geting 4.7. Gotta love this new "better" technology. I could bo beter than that 30 years ago with a 300 Maxidyne & 6 speed running 2100 rpm all day long in a R model pulling more pay weight than we do now.
  8. That's exactly why I chose the re-man over overhauling a used engine and putting in it when I found out one was available. Now I'm sick. Just playing the waiting game now to see how bad I'm going to get screwed.
  9. My son picked up the red Superliner from local Mack dealer last Thurs. afternoon after spending nearly 5 weeks in shop getting a new Re-man E6-350 engine, hauled 1 load of hogs to Ottumwa, other than a fuel leak all was fine,2 loads to Beardstown Fri.,2 this Mon. On the way home Mon. day,new engine blew up. Tow it in,Tues. a.m. to dealer ,get it in shop, they started at top, found 2 bent push rods. I tried to get them to drop pan,but they pissed around waiting on new push rods, put them in basically for nothing, yesterday afternoon finally got them to pull the pan, to find a twisted rod and a bunch of shrapnel,WTF!!! Needless to say I'm beyond pissed, spent $35000 ,everything under hood new and didn't get 2000 miles!!
  10. That's what it needs to be on,something smaller.I've had it along time, drug it out of the weeds last year and was going to see what it would look like on my AC,but it just too small, guess if i can't find a home for it I'll drag it out back again.
  11. R models were actually among the first to have gold dogs, the gold dog meant it had a Maxidyne engine, which were painted gold. The rest of the powertrain didn't matter, in '79 the EPA had issues with the gold paint and a few years later, with the introduction of the Econodyne engine, the gold dog was discontinued.Since the true R model was discontinued in 1990,the later ones all had chrome dogs. A true Western R model was built in Hayward , CA. They had alot more aluminum components, and were offered with more engine options,Hayward closed in '81.
  12. I don't think I have a gray one but I know I have a tan one,I'd just trade you.I think that tachograph is kinda neat.
  13. Looks nice, nothing wrong with patches, one of these days people are going to wish they had the sheet metal back they thought wasn't worth fixing. The old B models were made of real steel, and it can always be welded, but it can't be put back together after it's been thru a shredder.
  14. Yes,I got it from an estate clean up in NV. Got a couple Western 700 hoods and a cab too,Ron B. bought the cab from me for one of his RS795's. Friend of mine here in IA bought a LT with a crane, and some loose LT parts, most of the other stuff got scrapped,I heard. Jack only has 1 or 2 trucks at any given time,he buys them, fixes them up and then they move on. He's done some nice ones over the years,Almost always B70 series or LT Macks. Here's a couple pics of trucks he's had in the past, and one of the crane truck my friend Gary bought in NV
  15. These old trucks mean the world to me,it's hard, but when you know they will be taken good care of it makes it worthwhile. Don't worry though,I'll still be dragging in what I can.I put the original cost of this truck towards repair bills, but I made a deal to reinvest the extra. It ain't any fun to be totally financially responsible. Yes it is going to Jack. I've known him for years.
  16. Believe me it ain't easy, but I always make sure they are going to a good home, I just gotta get some cash flow to get caught up,that week in hospital in Dec. and being laid up a month now with my knee has hurt a bunch, and having to put a new engine in my son's truck was icing on the cake. The guy getting this one has turned out some nice pieces in the past,he'll get it into shape and who knows,by then I might be in better shape and buy it back. I'd lve to see some pics of your bassets. I sure miss mine.
  17. Every once in awhile one leaves the nest, this B73 is going to a new home in IL.Keep your eye on Ebay in the future, new owner will most certainly be posting it for sale after he fixes it up.
  18. Here's the Farr dual element air cleaner for a MB,it came off a '77 MB685S.If it looks like something you want,PM me.

My problem was parts weren't available from Mack. Luckily his supplier had the latter for the bottom tank. Had him make it a 5 core instead of the standard 4 core also.
