  1. I am going to get a scolding from you guys but I will tell you how the shop I worked in and the trucking family trucking company that grew to 50 macks over 50 years lifted engines. We made a pair of plates that consisted of 3 holes each spaced to fit the valve cover bolts and a lifting bale welded on. I swear you would not think it to be enough but we picked hundreds of engines using 6 valve cover bolts with the covers still on and never hurt a single one.

I have lifted many mack engines this way with no problems whatso ever. terry

  2. Looking closer at the pictures, looks like a single frame, if it were heavy duty, I thought it would be at least double. I don't think i ever seen a B53 with a double frame unless it had some frame problems. terry

  3. I wish it was closer or freight was cheaper, anyone here want to go pick it up and bring it here??

Im a spoke hub fan but I can find some better classic rims for it.

Whats the tank behind the cab for?

The little round one is an old style P/S resevoir, looks like it is hooked to a bigger tank. terry

  4. fxfymn must have miss read your first post. As far as I know the EN401/402 in the B42 is a Mack made Maxidyne engine. Some of the smaller trucks had continental made engines. There are not too many people running the gas jobs anymore, but there were a lot made and parts are still out there. I have 4 B42s and one B422, but the B422 has an overhead in it. I would keep the flat head gas for originality, but again it becomes a personal and economic decision. A non running, solid B42 is worth $1500-3500 in my opinion. They used to be $500-800 but are getting more scarce. Good luck. Mike

My first mack was a B421 with the flathead engine, does anybody know the 1 means in the B421 ? Terry

  5. Mark,

I've got a MH with all good rear end componenets, brakes springs, whole nine yards, all I'm going to have to do is unbolt each one, slide one out and slide other in. Soon as weather straightens up,shouldn't be more than a weekend job for a couple 3 thirsty helpers. If my painter don't charge anymore for this one than my Superliner,I'll have less than $8k in it total and that includes entire cost of the MH and 5 cases of Coors light.

That overdrive 12 spd with 4.17's makes a real good combo, especially if the engine RPM's are turned up. terry
