    From the previous post:

    That should read ENDT 673C.

And BTW, I pulled apart an ENDT673B which had the piston cooling sprayers in it.

Forgot the T for turbo engine. What hp. was the 673B engine? Was it after the C came out? terry

  2. pump set-up must change too, not the same fuel with 0 boost and 20? psi! for the cooling jet under the piston, it also depend on how you use your truck. if you work with it, well it may not be the right thing to do, but if it's a toy that you just want to add a turbo I'm pretty sure you won't burn that engine

:mack1: Mack did not start oil cooled pistons till the END 673 C came out, and there were alot of turboed engines prior to that that ran a ton of miles. terry

  3. Rob,

Mike is right on...all my books say that the "55" in the R700 series is either a 1693T or 1693TA Cat motor. The line sheet will tell which one. I believe the 1693 was the forerunner to the 3406. Good find...you've got a pretty rare truck there.

BTW, the R753 came with a 1674 Cat, althought I've never seen one of those!

    Jeff...

:mack1: Would be kind of a shame to alter that truck if it is that rare of a setup. Terry

  4. I was recently told that you could take the back cover off a 6 speed airshift

trans. and add a couple of gears and make it a 12 speed. This seems like

it a rumor to me, anyone know of the truth? :idunno:

    thanks greg

The 12 spd. has a whole other box bolted to the front, for your low range, for a total of 3 boxes bolted together, a pretty large tranny. I have one in my dump truck, far as i'm concerned the best tranny mack ever made. terry

  5. I don't think I have overdrive---I think it is direct.java script:emoticon(':)', 'smid_2')

:) How tough is it to install OD? Thanks for the response.

:D Look i think on the left side of tranny ,behind fill plug should be a flat spot with numbers should be a trt or trtl 72 or 720, 72 is a single overdrive a 720 is a double overdrive. If yours is a single overdrive it would be easier to find a different trans. that is a double over. terry

  6. My 285 tip turbine was pushing 15-16 psi before I messed with the fuel. With the fuel turned up I see about 17-18 psi (19-20 psi in the cold winter months) Like Glenn said I can mash the pedal thru all 5 gears but the EGTs do get a little high. Im from the midwest so hills are far and few between. There are many diffrent turbo specs and they all may produce slightly diffrent boost levels.

    Trent

My 285 hp with the tip turbine will put out 25 to 28 lbs. on a good pull, Will a stock engine pull that much boost? or has it been turned up? I always thought it was hard on fuel? Terry :thumb:

  7. I have changed over to 12v system but need still to install a Altanator. I know Larry and Rick Harper talked about a difftent bracket or a fabricated pice to align the pullys. that seams easy to fabricate but what I would like to know is if I can use a altanator from a R model.

tipical story at the dealer. they need a vin # ,part number, or a old altanator to compare. My B model Vin # wont work as it had a genarator.

    any tips?

ThanksYou can use alternator from the R model are you going pos. or neg. ground? The newer alts. are neg ground but some can be used either way, you can also use the R model bracket you just have to elongate the mounting holes so you can slide the bracket up to align the pulleys. Terry :thumb:

with my transmission 8LL eaton with axles ratio 5.02 :( top speed 60 mph :( 2100 rpm (not econo$$$$)

I want put 18 speed eaton!!!

is what calculation, to know the top speed my truck with 18 speed

i want 60 mph 1500 rpm around for max econo diesel

The only way to get that kind of speed is a change in the rearends, At least a 4.17 ratio with a .73 overdrive. Terry

  9. Hey guys does your trucks have tip fans on them? If not i would start there . If they do find out if u have a 237 fuel pump or the 300 hp pump the difference is the 237 pumps have a sloped cover on the back where the gov, is located. Keep in mind adding these things may require some timing changes a injector changing. I can tell u how to turn up the fuel , but would feel better if u emailed me personally. I dont think its to wise to have that type of info laying out there for everyone to see.

    Thanks

    Joe

:D Why what would be wrong with everbody seeing info? Terry

  10. :D I think the old style twists to turn on and the newer style pulls on and pushes off. Terry

    Question

I have the old style wiper motor on my RS. ( looks like a half moon shape). the air valve switch was faulty so

I went to the mack dealer and they said there is 2 style switches. they gave me the "new style" that is slightly smaller than the original one.

are these switches interchangable? they look like they will hook up the same way but will this smaller "new style" switch operate the air motor the same? :(

all i can say for the 12spds there are good ones and bad ones

had 3 of them all had different shifting problems

you will need a very strong tranny jack (very heavy trans) and a trap door in the floor for quick repairs of shifter fork rails and air lines

they were good trannys because mack had nothing else for high horse power off road abuse

(superdog) the mack 13spd and 18spd trans are the same unit but the shifter nob is the only thing that is different (the T2130 can be made into a T2180 with the price of the shifter)

don't want to make anybody upset but the T2180 started as a T2090 witch still does not have a good low low (13.91) but the .71 is not to bad

I have had awful good luck with my two stick 12 spd. Put it my DM dump about 8 years ago, the only thing that has been touched is put new o rings in the back box shift cylinders. And it was a used take out box. Would not trade it for anything else. Terry

Hey everyone, thanks for all the interest and nice comments.....I will get more pictures on when I can, I have a few in my gallery of the truck when I got it and when I sand blasted the frame. The engine went in pretty smooth, I had to remove the oil pan to get the clearance over the front cross member. There are alot of things I am learning as I go, I used the original quad box tranny and push type double disc clutch (series 50). There was an interference problem with the newer engine flywheel housing and the old dish type flywheel that I used. I had to grind some off the lower portion of the housing to let the flywheel turn, it hit at first and kept the motor from turning....that was no good, but I am past that now... I had to build my front motor mount, I used part of the old mount and part of the newer style and welded the two of them together.....if any of you have questions or if anyone else has done this very same install, let me know I have some questions and I am more than willing to help if anyone needs something answered...I will try to help...

Did you also change to the old style short water pump? and the short crankshaft hub? If you did not things will not clear. On the water pump i forgot if you have to change the housing too. Terry

Trent, those are some great pictures. The 800's were some awsome trucks. Trucks and trains, what a combination! Tim :thumb:

The dollies underneath the steam engine were self propelled, there is a seperate diesel engine that was hung on the side of the locomotive to power the dollies. It was quite a sight to see, the company i work for had the rubber tired loader to help push when needed and we done the sight preparation for the locomotives. Terry

I'm trying to get the registry updated for the end of the year. Getting real close to 1900 listed. So all you smoke sucking B model owners that ain't put your truck in the registry, get your info in. Go to 'oldmacksrus.com' and put your info in or send it straight to me at 'gannaway@voyager.net'. Remember - dead or alive, complete or in pieces - the registry is open to all B models!

Over & out from Ignorant Ridge,

    Tom

Tom i was wondering do you have any records that breaks down the B733 series into single or tandem axle, i bought a B733 from a man in Cali. which is a B733LT which is a single axle and was wondering if many of these trucks were made, also has the L cab. Terry
