I don't have any facts to verify but what I've gathered over the years is up to the point when econodyne was "introduced" Mack engines were 2100 rpm high torque rise engines that used 5 and 6 speed transmissions. Rated HP was at 2100 rpm. The econodyne engines turn slower and have their rated HP at 1800 or 1750 RPMs to save fuel and less engine noise / driver fatigue. My guess is the there are slight differences in the fuel system and engine internals (cam / pistons) between a 2100 RPM Maxidyne and an 1800 RPM Econodyne. Again no facts. Just anecdotal info...
The maxidyne engine was used with the five and six speed transmission's, the econodyne used the more multispeed , nine, ten, twelve speed mack and fuller transmissions. terry

That's about right. Doctor said it's a truck driver's thing. Arm out the window in the sun and wind for the bad skin. And going deaf in my left ear before my right because of the wind. Most common word around my house now is "What?". lol .....Hippy
Same for me,skin cancers on my left arm, and left ear almost deaf. terry

What's your 'go-to' for an E9 12 speed OD with 11r24.5's in a road tractor? It currently has 3.87's, but I've never worked it... yet. Found metal on drain plug on the crdp92, so I pulled it... gear set is toast.
Rebuilder is shying away from replacing the 3.87 ratio. He called it a "weak gear set". I have zero experience with that sort of thing. He's steering me towards 4.42 or 4.17.
That's the reason I asked about the closeness of the 3.86-3.87. .. and why he calls it a "weak gear set".
With that set up a 4:17 would be ideal, i once had a DM dump with a 285 engine, 12 spd od mack with 4:17’s and 22.5 tires, engine would turn 2300, and bury the 80 MPH speedometer. It was quite the sleeper! Terry

Yep, I remember that style of pump now. There was an excentric on the input shaft
Didn't the cover have the excentric in it, and that little pump gizmo would move back and forth to pump the oil? terry

Same here, from the days before CDL, Never took a driving test in a semi, believe it or not. Grandfathered into CDL,
Started in smaller trucks and wreckers and just kept moving bigger, Skills needed transfer up, but if you stop learning you are going backwards. I always learned something when I was on the road, decades after being deemed competent to drive by the states standards.
Same thing for me Geoff, learned driving dump trucks in the service, 67,68,69, got my first dump truck about “72” got a letter from the state of iowa when cdl’s were starting, that i could self certify the driving, but i think i had to do a written test. Terry

That’s probably a x107 six speed, auxiliary goes in direct and just shift the five speed, reverse is on the auxiliary stick, a bullet proof transmission. Terry

Just a slight leak will keep it from building air.

Once had a 237 engine when you backed out of it sounded like bongo drums out the exhaust, exhaust seat was loose, you could tell be the carbon around the seat, ran a long time like that. But it could be one of those things that could let go at anytime. terry

Well, last night I buttoned up everything, including getting the floor back in.
I found a leak in the transmission, seems one of the side bolts I left out in the rear box must be a through hole as it seeped fluid when I had the truck running the other night so I siliconed the bolts in and need to wait for that to set up before running it again.
I also did a whoops the other night. I installed the air start tank before moving the fuel tank so it is stuck behind the truck and no room to wiggle it through with the air tank in the way. I put the tank up on the rear chassis and once I pull truck out I will install the tank. Luckily it runs off the driver's tank.
I should be able to test drive it tonight? Weather is good, roads relatively clear. We will see.
I think them three holes on the side were for handbrake bracket. terry

Can you put a oversized pin, and weld on the shift ball and round it down and smooth it, i have done that in the past. Terry.
