I have seen a steel fendered RD with a mack 5 speed and a 4 spd twin countershaft aux. behind it, also think it was an ex oilfield truck.

What is a soft nose LJ?
-
maybe just put heavier springs with the cast caps. If you go with the cut off route make sure everything is not worn out.

I have owned a F model with a quad and a two stick six speed.

Check with Manders diesel, Lakeville Minnesota.

Can't help on the numbers, but i do remember R model macks in the mid and later 60's with 318 detroits.

I can't imagine what a 6-71 would do to a one ton front end!Ben
They are only rated for 250 net HP, if the V8 is less than that it would be ok but it is rated at 318hp then it would be no, I would with a 6-71/ 6-53, it would be cool to have 13 speed in your pickup. I have always wanted to put a 6-71 and 9 or 13 speed in a one ton

They are a real easy engine to adjust the valves while running, and the maxidyne converted i believe is maxidyne liners with the heads scored for the fire rings. terry

I have done a significant amount of searching and cannot find answers to these questions.
Truck is a 1961 B613T, 673 with a quadraplex,
Does anyone have valve adjustment specs and procedures for a 673? I purchased a book that says to do it with the motor running. My preference would be to do with the motor off, so I am hoping there is an alternate procedure.
I have been looking for rebuild kits for this motor and the only think I can find says "maxidyne convereted" Does anyone have any idea what that means?
I am starting to see many posts that recommend not rebuilding this engine. I just purchased the truck and have not completely assessed the motor, I do know it is not the original motor to the truck, at least that is what the last owner said. But the blowby is pretty high and it was a working truck so I think the motor is tired. I am working on a restoration, but it will be as a personal toy for me more than trying to make it period correct. I would consider an upgrade in motor if it made sense. What would be the recommended motor for replacement?
I would like to convert this to spin on oil filters. Any suggestions for a kit to do this?
Thank You for your thoughts.

I do believe the tip turbine went to 315 horsepower. TerryThe first E-6's were 2 valve engines.
There were six cylinder's with series charge intercoolers on them (half water, half air) and tip turbines.
I don't remember what they were rated at but I believe they were over 300 H.P. and were designed to go with a multi-speed transmission.

Best tranny mack ever made! Terryyep.... thats exactly why I did not like them. to slow in the first 2 gears for anything on road... then all the big steps afterwards. ever driven a 12 speed..... those are perfect for all your needs.

686 Would be a 285 with a 5 or 6 spd, a 690 would be a 300 or350 with a 9 spd mack or fuller. Terry

Are the injector lines the same?

That is a bargain for that 12 spd. Best trans. mack ever built! Terry

When you take them tank straps off, be sure to check tank it self for rust under the straps, It usually gets paper thin there. If so, take some thin strap and weld to tank where the tank strap wraps at. Will save you from trouble later. Terry

Have to agree with the early 237 idea, terry

Yes any 72 series with a 0 at the end is a double overdrive, either a TRT or a TRQ. TerrySo for sure a TRQ 7220 is what I'm looking for to capitalize on my low rear ratio?

-
No 0 is a single overdrive in the back box, all triplex and quads are overdrive in the back box, A 0 like in a TRQ7220 is overdrive in the front, so there is your double overdrive. terryIt appears they use only one zero regardless of whether it is a single or double overdrive. it also lists all 20 gear ratios, even the redundant ones, on the 18 speed version of the Quad.

Try Manders diesel in Lakeville Minnesota, they parts out lots of macks. TerryI'm looking for a cab for a 1998 mack rd688s. it was roll over. has a 350 mack with vmacII I'm located in Qc Canada but distance is not a problem. will prefer close to indiana/michican/illinois but will take what I can find!

I always thought the "adjustable" part was to keep moving the bottom thrust bearing upward as it wears to keep the axle beam from dragging on the spindle. terry
-
Look at the engine pics. the frame is not tall enough for a DM, it is a U model. Terry
-
You need to find a TRT1070 12 spd. They are about 12% overdrive, I had one in a DM with 4.17 rears, would run 65 mph at about 1600 rpms. terry
-
Manders just outside of Minneapolis used to have a ton of mack cabs. terry
-
With that mileage on the trans and engine with good servicing should last a real long time. terry

On that B75 i believe the very first ones had the small radiator, you can see the fender extensions on the side.
