  1. False alarm. The mechanic called me when he THOUGHT he was done...still needed to test drive, though. So, I took him at his word...but waited about an hour. When no phone call came saying "it's still broke", I figured the test drive went well....so I called dispatch to say "put something on me that I can load & take home tonight" and then headed up to get the truck.

I show up and it is still in the bay.....axle shafts pulled....front carrier in the process of disassembly for removal. Turns out it wasn't JUST the cam & peanuts. Unfortunately their computers were down, so they couldn't give me any price quotes....want to find out how expensive my various options would be.

    1) For them to fix what is broke in the existing carrier.

    2) To order up a rebuilders series carrier w/ 1 year warranty...keep my 4.17 gears.

    3) To order up a ReMack carrier w/ 2 year warranty...keep my 4.17 gears.

    4) To order up rebuilders series front & rear carriers w/ 1 year warranties with 4.42 gears.

    5) To order up rebuilders series front & rear carriers w/ 1 year warranties and full lockers with 4.42 gears.

    6) To order up ReMack carriers front & rear w/ 2 year warranties and 4.42 gears.

    7) To order up ReMack carriers front & rear w/ 2 year warranties, full lockers, and 4.42 gears.

The option I choose is extremely cost dependent....while I'd LOVE to be able to choose option #7, I very well might end up having to go with #1 and just being patient and waiting until I'm a little more caught up financially before doing the upgrade I've been wanting to do for a while. Bottom line, I've just got to weigh the value of having a warranty vs. the cost, and just how much I want the gear swap and lockers vs. the cost.

Does mack side to side locker? Terry

  2. I've got the same setup in my '96 RD but with an airshift power divider. Do you think my divider would bolt up in place of an automatic?

I am pretty sure the outer cam in the power dividers are different, and would have to take each one apart to swap them.

  3. I don't remember the model number, only ever seen one in person, but it was a 5 speed main box with reverse, and it had a second stick that was only shifted in 5th gear,it was for overdrive. There was another with the same set up only the 2nd stick was for use with 1st and reverse only,it predated the more common version of the 2 stick 6 speeds,I've seen 2 of these in person.

Mike would that be a TRDXL1071 Direct and a TRDXL1070 Overdrive? Terry

  4. Here are some pictures of the cab without all the wire harness and so forth in it.I have spoken to the fellow that does the dustless blasting and i'm going to see him tomorrow and get a price from him to do the cab and frame. In the secord pic you will see something to the right of the volt reg.,I was wondering what it is and what does it do.It has to do with the altornator I think. Will let you know how I make out with the blasting guy.

I believe that is something to do with preheating the early cummins engines. Terry

  5. at 18 how many places can you go making 500 a week in just tips. Not including the hourly and .50 delivery. was making great money. Also was an equipment operator during the day. put half down on my 98 dodge brand new in 2 years. Spent alot and did stuff but all in all I lived on tips alone not including the change. Was never broke. would have over 1000 in tips sitting on the dresser as I never claimed it and really couldn't put it in the bank. Then I went to driving a wrecker and that was the beginning of the end.

Did you ever have any ladies want to pay for pizza in a unusual way?

  6. Check on top of the auxillary drive, toward the front of the block, should be stamped right on the top ahead of the injection pump.Or was that just on the Thermodynes,I can't remember?

All conventional engines are stamped there, cabovers were stamped on backside of motor next to firewall, right below headgasket. terry
