  1. Technically, a cab off a '91 R model would work, but of course your interior would be updated, which may not be a bad thing. Don't the older r models mount up solid to the frame with 4 rubber mounts? At some point, I'm guessing around the late 70's or early 80's, they went to air ride. I don't believe the hood would matter, although when they went to having air to air in front of the radiator, the hood got updated a little bit. I believe around '81 or '82? A power steering pump, resevoir, and a sector shouldn't be too hard to find in a bone yard somewhere.
  2. Take your time, sir. Just whenever you feel up to it. I've got a long list of things I need to be doing to the old truck anyway. Namely, 11+ years of rat crap to wash out of the floor. lol Thanks alot, y'all
  3. Would you be willing to part with it, Superdog?
  4. I'd heard that. I wonder what the chances are of finding a shifter column and linkage set up for one? The very few f models I've been around have just been 5 speeds.
  5. Not yet. I'll try to get some posted though.
  6. Just swapped about half a day's worth of track loader work for a '74 FS model daycab tractor. It's got a hole in the side of the block as big as my head but 237's are still a dime a dozen around here. It's hooked up to a straight 5 speed, but my question is if these trucks were ever factory equipped with a duplex, triplex, quadbox, or a 2 stick six speed? It looks like there's a cutout in the shift tower column that would house another shift lever in front of the existing 5 speed lever. She's my first cabover, so I'm not that familiar with them. I just thought a two stick f model would be pretty freakin' awesome. Is it a possibility?
  7. I just ordered and built an AMT Mack DM800 from www.modelroundup.com for like 40 bucks. It's the 1971 kit reissued by The Model King. I've also heard rumors that they're talking about reissuing the old MPC Mack DM600... cant wait for that one!
  8. I went on a trip to Belize in Jan of 2004 and I wish I would have had a camera with me. There were trucks still working down there (mostly dump trucks) that would have been retired 20 years ago in the states. There were lots of R models (didn't see any B's) and F models with makeshift dump bodies that didnt fit. It was great to see em all hard at work... Even in the middle of the jungle, you just cant beat a
  9. At one point or another, we did everything that I can think of... We were contiuously blowing fuel through lines with an air compressor... We would make sure the filters were full, disconnect the supply line at the primary filter base and blow air into the tank to push fuel out the line. When we got fuel, we would hook the line back up, loosen the injector lines at the pump, and wheel it over till she was spurtin'. We would tighten it up and try to fire it up, and up until the last time, it would do fine for about 4 or 5 miles... We put fuel conditioner in the tanks and even had a butane torch to try and heat up fittings the first day when it was cold. The next day, though, it warmed up to the high 40's (strange weather in the Delta) and we were having the same problems... One thing u mentioned, Herb, I'm not so sure about. I cant remember if we put the spring back in when we plugged the primer or not... I'll check on that. Thanks for the help, guys!! Well, we did all that... We even pulled the intake tube out and it was fine... I think it was copper but it wasnt rusted or corroded or anything. We blew it out, then pushed fuel back to the motor and it would still do the same stuff, so I'm guessing by what yall are telling me is that the old fuel lines are probably just bad and pulling air through them somewhere... I know the truck sat for at least a year or so without being used so that must be it. And I bet the reason it wont crank back is we must have forgotten to put the little spring back in the primer port on the pump. For the life of me I cant remember if we did or not. I'll check on it first thing 2morrow. Thanks Again Everybody!!!
  10. I'm the same way, man... when I drove my door and window-less $400 dm home 6 months ago, i got told right off the bat that I was crazy and no chance would I ever have a decent truck... TADA!!! $3763.03 later I have a truck thats ready to have the bed set on it and start makin money... Just remember... It can definitely be done
  11. I've got a new problem I was wondering if anyone could help me with. First of all, I'm no engine man...I do good to call myself a truck driver LOL. Anyway, the other day my dad found a good deal on a 1974 RS600LS and decided he'd lay down the $2500 and try to use it as a site truck. He used it for a week or two before it came time to drive it 200 miles in 12 degree weather to the Vicksburg yard. I was driving and had gone about 4 miles when it seemed to run out of fuel and just die. The tanks were full so we changed the filters. That worked for another 4 or 5 miles until it did the same thing again. We kept stair stepping our way until we limped a grand total or 25 miles and stopped in Clarksdale in a legion hut parking lot. We got a real mechanic to look at it and he said it was sucking air at the primer pump so we plugged it like it is on all of our other trucks... This time it wouldn't even crank. Finally we changed the supply pump but that didn't seem to make any difference. The truck is still sitting in the legion hut parking lot to my knowledge (havent talked to dad in a week) but does anyone have any ideas? My uneducated guess is that the injection pump is bad...
  12. Hey I appreciate the help ... I wrote everything down and Ill go to TriState Auto Paint Monday morning and see if I can figure anything out from there... Ill let yall know if I hit another wall LOL
  13. Hey Y'all I know Ive asked about this before but I was just wondering if anyone out there had an old bucket of the beige interior paint used in R, DM, and U models in the mid-70's to mid-80's... I cant seem to find anything close and I was trying to save from spending $200 on a gallon of paint. My last name might be Moneymaker, but that doesn't necesarilly mean I live up to it LOL... If no one has any of the actual paint, how about a code? The Mack place couldn't find me one. Thanks!
  14. Man, I know how ya feel... I watched several friends go down hill and there's really not much you can do about it. Just set your own path and try to walk straight. ~Jake~
  15. Well, Thad, He sure aint gonna sleep any better now!! LOL
  16. Speakin of that, I had a scary experience the other day with our new truck driver. This guy just came off the road for Swift, and had never seen a dump truck, much less a Mack. I made a few loads drivin and showin him about the PTO and hoist controls, assuming he knew how to shift the dang truck. When I let the fool get in the seat, he did fine until it was time to downshift. He was in 4th gear, rolling about 15 or 20 mph up to a stop sign when he clutched it and proceeded to jam the T2090 in to first gear. I imagine there is a tooth or two floating around in the transmission right now. What do these people have to do to go through the training process of major trucking companies? If the rest of the new drivers are like this, I can see why synchronized transmissions are not used.
  17. Yeah judging from the rust and where it's from, my guess is that the RD has seen a little salt... Luckily we dont have much of that down here in the south. I dont think I've ever seen a truck as late as a 89 model with that much rust. That DM811 looks pretty decent and about what i'm looking for, only a little more money than I'm wanting to spend for a 79 model.
  18. For some reason I wasn't thinking right and said the DM800 was on truckpaper, but in fact it was on ericksontrucks.com. Sorry for the mix up... Anyway, I'd kinda like to find an affordable one that I could slap a coat of paint and a dump bed on and go to work like I've done with my DM685... There was a DM800 for sale at Whitington's Used Trucks in Memphis, but it was pretty rough and had a 25 yard plus coal bed on it that was useless for hauling rock without a third axle.
  19. Does anyone know where I can find a fixer-upper dm800 with a six cylinder engine? I found one on truckpaper.com, but it needed engine work and had a v8 (something I know nothing about)
  20. Does anyone know of another Mack dealership that deals in alot of NOS interior parts other than Watts? I need the rear cab panel for a 76 dm model Mack along with the box with the bulldog logo pressed into it, as well as several of the dash panels. Everything I've found in junked trucks have been rotten and cracked up pretty bad...
  21. I changed my 1976 DM from the hard nose to a fiberglass front cap. The radiator must be swapped out, as well as the radiator mount because it sticks out too far from the crossmember it is bolted to. The cowl area on the DM is different then on an R model, but on mine it had a steel fender piece on the RH side that simply bolted on, and the LH side had a bracket that the fender bolted on to. Your best bet is to find an old steel hood R model and your parts should all swap with no trouble. I know of a junked R model with the steel hood here in West Memphis that seems to be in decent shape.
  22. I would appreciate it! I went to a friend of mine today with the same question and he gave me an old number he had scrawled on the workbench years ago when he used to rebuild old macks and sell them. The # is 99L26236... I haven't called Mack with it yet, but I intend to. Let me know if it matches yours. Thanks!
  23. Our shop is right around the corner from a Napa... I'll go try that tomorrow... Thanks for the help! Well I already lucked out on headliners... I bought 2 doors, a dash, all the dash panels, a headliner, and a passenger seat as well as a spare turbo and exhaust manifold out of a junked R model for $200 from a friend of mine. The only thing I really need is the cardboard panel that fits in the area behind the seats. I'd like to find one that has the pouch with the bulldog molded into in but I haven't had much luck. Yeah tell me about it. The company I work for just bought 5 used DM690 triaxle dump trucks and they've had trouble finding the correct parts for them(1995 models). However, I had an idea today because I happened to catch a glimpse inside a Granite concrete truck. The interior seemed to be the same color beige as my 76 model. I might try to track down a code on that.
  24. Hey man I thought I was the only person under 25 with my own truck lol...
