    The Daughter:

    congrats . . . . . . a week over is hard on everyone . . . . .
  2. seeing it leave the country will be sad. do you really think it will get to 6K$, especially if they are intending to ship it out?
  3. the ad sez it has a 2090 mack transmission, which has the splitter, although mine has an air splitter, and that one doesn't seem to, although that might be necessary because of the cab tilting. i would love that truck, but i would be worried about owning something like that, because of the history behind it . . . . . the pressure to preserve it, even just in my head, would be substantial . . . . .
  4. this is a video of a truck for sale north of me: the driver seems to keep revving the engine while driving it forward, and it really seems to be running fast while he is backing it up. is there something wrong with the engine? i suppose it might be that it just isn't warmed up, but something just doesn't seem right, and i can't figure out what it is . . . . . thanx . . . . . .
  5. i keep looking, but i never find anything like that parked by the side of the road . . . . .
  6. a guy two towns over has a freightliner for sale. i looked around to see if there was a site like this for those kinds of trucks. i found a forum on a site called topix.com but it does not appear to be a useful resource for asking questions . . . . so, are there resources for those "other" brands of trucks. . . . . ?
  7. well, it rained like nobodies business today at the show. i managed to get there about two hours after it opened. one or two trucks arrived after i did, and about 6 or 7 left while i was there. since nice stuff, but hard to really appreciate it with all the rain. maybe next year . . . .
  8. thinking of dragging my teenage son to the show this sunday in Hudson, MA. are any of you planning on attending?
  9. has the site look has radically changed? i used to have this black and green scheme, and it is gone, and the summary of new messages is gone . . . . or did i do something to it by mistake?
  10. http://pittsburgh.cr...2521537799.html looks pretty good, from what you can see, 8000$ . . . . . .
  11. I know this has been discussed before, but are you using a craigslist aggregator? I am currently using jaxed.com to look at regional macks for sale. It includes both cl and eBay, which is useful . . . . . . . But I was wondering if anyone had anything better. Is there a site that does this for auctions that a non-insider can access?
  12. while not the classic that either of those are, this one looked pretty nice: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140571103200&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AUS%3A1123#ht_500wt_1182 12K$ seems pretty good, of course, it isn't the reserve, so i don't have an idea what it would take to buy it, but . . . . . the price of the superliner makes me wonder what is wrong with it . . . . .
  13. You mean "slight cab damage"? I did notice that. The pictures are not really clear about any of it actually. Too far away from me anyway, I think transportation costs to the Boston area would chew up too much money.
  14. Does the plate on the back of the cab imply there used to be a sleeper? Also, the drive tires don't look like they have a lot of life on them . . . . . But it is a nice truck . . . . Wile not in the same league, I like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-MACK-R-688-ST-/150624255543?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item2311e7be37#ht_500wt_948 Although I don't particularly like the trailer . . . . .
  15. I was just looking at an R model tractor with the exhaust below the frame in front of the rear wheels. My dump is like this, which makes sense to me, since it seems like the dump body can be slightly larger. What is the benefit to a tractor configured this way opposed to the exhaust running up behind the cab, as I usually see on tractors? Thanx . . . . . .
  16. OK, so there are 688, 686, 685, 612 . . . i understand, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_R_series, that the leading 6 refers to the chassis, and the last two digits refers to the engine in the truck. is there a list somewhere, that i have missed, listing that all these codes are? thanx . . . . .
  17. I would have assumed it worked the other way, and trucks were brought into New England from elsewhere, since it seems that the prices up here are considerably higher than places in the south. I can understand moving trucks around like that to take advantage of higher demand, but the distance this superliner moved was about 15 miles, which seems short for a large price increase. Even the CH was only about 70 miles, ,and that seems way too short to justify a huge increase. and they were not being picked up from owners, who might have been selling low to get the trucks moved. As I said, just don't understand, but I wonder why . . . . .
  18. I have seen this kind of thing caused by leaks in the door. I found that the squeegee gasket on one door was letting water in. Check the underside of the door to see if it is also wet . . . .
  19. sadly, this is priced well out of my range. i was actually trying to figure out what they are doing up there. awhile ago they picked up a CH from another dealer over in NH, which had been listed for a few weeks by the first dealer, and aran listed it for more money immediately, so i cant imagine that they did a lot of upgrading to it . . . . and there is the grey superliner that they have had for, what, over 18 months, that they raised the price of a few weeks ago . . . . . i am not saying the trucks are not worth it, just trying to understand how the game is played . . . .
  20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUPERLINER-HEAVY-DUTY-/320703876571?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item4aab70cddb#ht_500wt_948 It has been on eBay for awhile as a classified ad for 38k$. Today, it changed over to an auction, starting at 25k$, with an unknown reserve. How much was it for sale at Joseph's Equipment for?
  21. There are some places with surface rust on the frame of the truck. I intended to sand the spot down, and apply some paint. Left to my own devices, I would probably just use a spray can of krylon. Is there a reason not to, or something substantially better to use? Thanx . . . .
  22. I wondered about that, but wasn't sure how it got so high over the cover. Something like that, replacing the gromets or the gasket, should not be that painful, or expensive . . . . Unless there is something subtle about the job I am missing . . . .
  23. Looked at a truck today, a 1984 r686st, which was in pretty good shape, all things considered. It has been sitting since last June, but started up without too much trouble. No heavy smoke. I had the hood open when he started it, and it looked ok. The filters were all from early 2010 according to the writing on them. One thing that concerned me, though, was that there was a lot of oil on the turbo side of the engine, from halfway over the top, all the way down to the oil pan, and, interestingly enough, also on the driver's side of the oil pan. I let it run for about 10 minutes, and didn't notice it oozing or spraying from anywhere. It didn't seem to get any worse, but I still found it troubling. There did not seem to be any noticeable stains on the ground under it. It might have been moved recently, but it is basically in the same spot it was in when pictures. Were taken for the ad a few weeks ago. Any ideas on what might be going on here? Thanx . . . . .
  24. Looking at the classifieds listings, it seems that the trucks litings are not getting pruned after, what, 45 days? Also, I don't suppose it would be possible for the appropriate sections to be used? There are a lot of ads for people selling parts in then trucks for sale section . . . . . .
  25. They are a bit north of me, I have been theree once or twice. There is a lot of stuff there, including containers and trailers. Recently, they increased the price of another superliner they have had on the lot for over a year by 4000$: http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=2170584& which is a nice truck ( although I admit to being put off by the blue frame when I looked at it). They are pricey, and have bought other trucks around here only to list them at higher prices. Don't know what the deal is . . . . They are nice enough people, though . . . . . .
